Every time is see "ROE" events, I still expect to be playing Omaha and Holdem. Gonna draft Pot Limit ROE etc.

Anyway, playing the London Regional tomorrow, 1 in 8 get a seat. Got sent a Jund Deck by the Champ on his recommendation. Not played Standard for about 3 years, should be interesting. Wish the qualifier was an on-line limited event, would make life so much easier, going out drinking tonight - best run good tomorrow! I've been reading about the format- hope I can beat all the u/w players!

SEALED TIPS?!
The pre-release is on today online and I've got an hour to kill beforehand playing poker and reading up on strategy. What are obvious cards to look out for?

Should I be forcing ramp with whatever eldrazi i get?
Is aggro secretly king like always?

Levellers are almost all good, with the exception of ikiral outrider.

Regress is actually quite good, even though it seems overcosted.

I haven't played a ramp deck yet, remember some of the eldrazi are still pretty mediocre (the 7/7 common one for instance).

First attempt. About to play round 1. I think my green stuff is pretty strong but I have noooo idea about anything to do with this set. Most of the cards were new to me =/

Sick, sick green pool. Must add Keening stone - did you read it? Expect people to be playing some big ramp in this format, Stone wins the game in ~3turns. Double beast breaker is the nuts.

Edit: Cut momentous fall for keening, probably try and find a way to fit naturalize in. Probably spider umbra - It's the worst one.

Why does keening stone seem way too slwo and mana intensive for my green deck?

I lost round 1. FFS. Stuck at 3 mana game 1 vs a faaast white red deck. Won game 2 on the strength of elephant tokens and the 2/1 flying tapout. Kept a 1 land hand game 3 because it had smite, the elf mana accel, 1 green mana, two beastbreakers and the pump spell... and didnt draw a land for 4 turns. Somehow got to turn 12 or so but lost vs his 3 walls, including the stalwart and the red one that was doing 3 dmg to me a turn. Sigh.

19 mana and taking out the green life gain dude a good idea? Not sure about keening still.

Here was the pool. White slightly beats red, right?

Your build was fine, I don't like keening stone in your deck as you have a very aggressive deck for the format.

Told myself I wasn't going to play the online prerelease because of the horrible payouts.

That lasted about 3 hours.

Set seems absurdly fast. I know little about what I'm doing. Here's my pool/build, if anyone has any pointers I'd love to hear them:

how the **** do you have 2x domestication, narcolepsy, and 2 hartebeasts sitting in your sideboard?

hand of emrakul is pretty bad imo

you have entirely too much good stuff in the sideboard in the colors you're running

Yup.

Literally the first time I saw any of these cards.

Throw me a bone, what should I have done differently? Ran u/g/w? I didn't run hartebeasts because I only had one aura, but looking over the cards again I can see how they would be really good with some of the blue ones.

After playing two rounds, I'm seeing that the hands are basically worthless. Other than those, what would you cut to make way for some of the blue cards?

2 colors are fine, just run UW or whatever. wildheart invoker in the board and the leaf thing main when you're green is pretty silly, crusher of ulamog > hand of emrakul for sure, guard duty is excellent, etc.

I think UGW are your best colors, Leaf arrow is terrible maindeck as is harmless assault.

Thanks for the tips, I managed to go 2-2 in spite of my deck, would have been 3-1 if my last round opponent hadn't played Stone to destroy me.

Might try another one later tonight, that rake is so huge though I won't feel that bad waiting a few days.

Went 2-2 with that green deck and then 3-1 with a uw leveler that lost a close one in the finals against a guy in black that got multiples of ever removal. Beating somebody that had both gideon and the 3/3 avatar guy by siding in every wall and keening stone was fun in the semis.

I might play one more today while the prices are still up there.

Yeah, white's really good and so much more synergistic with Aura Gnarlid. I could see splashing red for Forked Bolt+Flame Slash+Brimstone Mage, dropping Momentous Fall, Jaddi Lifestrider, and Bramblesnap.

Bramblesnap hit me pretty hard at a paper pre-release, but he seems a little underwhelming.

Set seems absurdly fast. I know little about what I'm doing. Here's my pool/build, if anyone has any pointers I'd love to hear them:

+1 Guard Duty
+2 Hartebeest
+1 Overgrown Battlement
+1 Daggerback Basilisk
+1 Wildheart Invoker

-1 Leaf Arrow
-1 Lone Missionary
-1 Harmless Assault
-2 Hand of Emrakul
-1 Soul's Attendant

Not sure about the build that includes Blue, though 2xHartebeest with the options of Guard Duty/Narcolepsy/Domestication is pretty exciting.

***

Just played my own event and managed to go 4-0. First card I saw was Sakrhan, then peeked down to find 3 Flame Slashes and knew I'd already be playing at least some red and black. Didn't have enough meat to force those colours, and although I was pretty enticed by my green, I saw I could go for an almost exclusively flying deck via White and I do love me some Dawnglare Invoker.

Last second I switched out Grotag Siege-Runner for Null Champion, although I'd probably rather have had something else altogether. Last Kiss was incredibly dissapointing and I didn't get to cast Sarkhan once! Was really hoping for some Threaten+Sarkhan fun.

Null Champ + Last Kiss often came out for some combo of Outrider/Soul Warden/Virulent Swipe/Siege-Runner/Repel the Darkness.

Exciting finish in game 3 in the finals. Infinite spawn tokens do nothing vs my fliers. I was just waiting to lose to Broodwarden or Might of the Masses for 20+ but the fliers got there (he had 1 card in hand at the end, not 8).

What prices are you talking about?

Also, should I sell Sarkhan for 14 tix?

I made the mistake of selling Jace for 37 after a WWK release. Though I doubt this could end as badly.

There's no way Gideon is gonna stay at 40ish lol. I don't see it.
All is dust seems like one of those amazing mythics that some deck is going to desperately need, but I still couldn't imagine it going above the 9 I sold mine for.
Now's also the only time you can get even fractions of tickets for some of the junk rares. Players are also the worst they're ever going to be.

Hehe I sold 2 real life baneslayers for like 22. Got 35, 40, 50 for my jaces online. 77 for the foil one. I don't mind getting screwed on the occasional deal because I make so much more off the cheaper rares that will soon be worthless.

If you're really sharp you can even speculate on cards. I had a lot of fun buying knights of the reliquary en masse for 1 a pop back in the day. Noble's for 2 each, etc.

wait a second is 3 colour viable all of a sudden again?

I get the idea if I try for it I'm gonna get crushed by the aggro that always wins everything ever.
