Has anyone played The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante? I picked it up today and it's fantastic.

it's great, I just found it myself

got my ass handed to me on my first playthrough when I tried to be a fair judge, painted myself into a corner and then ran out of lives

now on my second weighing my options more carefully it definitely pays to be cunning in this game

Ugh, I think I'm in the same boat. I'm in my first year and had to have father bail me out already.

from what I understand the highborn path is the most difficult one to get to a "good" ending which sort of makes sense since you have to juggle more responsibilities same as irl

no matter which choice I made it seemed like it would always piss someone off

I'm pretty sure my time as a mod has skewed my version of what endings are "good" or not. "Why won't these plebs just follow the poor noble's orders?"

Spoiler:
I had to give up on El Borne, I could not get to the trial without outside help. I was able to beat the game with both the Magister's and the Overseer's help though. It felt really good to duel Otton and win after having to start chapter 4 over due to him killing me so many times.

Decided to try a new playthrough as a priest, and help the rebels get a peaceful transition. Only ending I could get was massacring the city... whoops.

I'll stop spamming the thread so those who aren't interested don't need to read this stuff. Highly recommend this game though! I'd probably even recommend it to people who don't play games and just like to read. It is incredibly well done.

I normally don't even play these type of games but heard rave reviews gave it a shot and was instantly hooked

my only complaint is it's a bit too short, hopefully they'll make another one with a larger decision tree

they are definitely onto something here

Disco Elysium is completely different, but has an amazing decision tree system imo. You might want to check that out, it's also fantastic.

Life and Suffering seems pretty intriguing will give it a go.

What are the thoughts on DE Final Cut? I got Disco a few years ago got about halfway through enjoying it but moved on. Does it make sense to just get the new version and start a new character?

BTW, The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante does have a steam demo. It lets you play the first two chapters.

Is playing with the stats/effects on considered cheating? It seems successfully completing the game without them would be exceedingly difficult.

I've only played the Final Cut version, so can't comment. Sorry.

I think the game recommends you play with the stats/effects on. It's difficult enough to get the outcomes you want with them on, I can't imagine playing without them.

Interesting you guys are arguing for stats/effects on, I've read otherwise.

Is it a 100% complete neurosis thing with you guys or do you think it's genuinely needed?

I'm just starting but I've read to turn it off and "don't expect to win, just enjoy the experience" if that makes sense to anyone playing it

My experience was that my first run it didn't really matter because I didn't have a good enough grasp of the mechanics anyways. After that, it is possible to get to late game and not have the necessary stats to continue, so it's not really worth the risk, and I was intending to do several playthroughs anyways. I also find it really interesting to see what the devs thought a particular choice would mean as far as character development.

I don't see turning it off boosting the experience much, except for perhaps the first time.

wow, Control for free on Epic, might be the best ratio of profile/length since premiere ever

I was waiting for a decent sale to get it, -100% seems like a good deal

I honestly loved the Sir Bronte demo. Was really blown away so here's to hoping it's an actual discount.

Sir Brante is an amazing game that I probably never would've played if it hadn't been recommended ITT. Thanks

Also - Control has been on Game Pass for months already so ya'll could've gotten it there ages ago instead of sucking up to the cancer that is egs.

Yeah guys, you could have paid for the game instead of getting it for free. Noobs.

Game pass for pc is basically free considering how many quality games you get there.

If you play a lot of games and are not on game pass, you're most likely giving away money.

But sure - sitting around waiting for epic to give them away for free eventually is an option too.

I’ve taken a ton of free epic games people have posted itt. Don’t rmbr ever playing a game on epic game launcher. All the best ones I was interested in playing I already owned on steam. Please continue posting the good giveaways.

Game pass seems like really good value at $9.99/month, thanks for the reminder. I’m gonna do the 3 months for $1 now.

Lol, I’m just being a punk. Gamepass is obviously a great deal for most. It just doesn’t matter to me because I basically play the same 3 games over and over. “Sitting around waiting” for free stuff isn’t a task at all. Hell, I probably won’t play these free games either.

Yea, no worries - me too. I shouldn't have included the dig at egs as I have had quite enough of that debate

I mainly wanted to sing the praises of game pass which I find such ridiculously good value that I'm not sure why/how they can offer it
