Fair enough. They still have Halo 3 lobbies that run on OG 360 as well so I might just play that instead of dropping money on it.

Very happy to report that HuniePop 2 delivers!

After HunieCam which was pretty terrible I was a bit skeptical, but HP2 is really good.

They upped the difficulty a lot (which is absolutely a good thing) - it takes a fair bit of planning and thought once you get past the first few dates and the new mechanics they've introduced work really well.

Also, the music is really great. Voice acting, graphics and humor is at least as good as the first one so far.

It also has a very moving and deep storyline where you have to have threesomes to save the world... because... how else would you save the world?

Through ~an hour, Understand seems pretty cool.

Each level has around 5 puzzles with the same ruleset. Underneath the puzzles, there's one dot for every rule, and as you draw lines, the dots get filled in if their rule is satisfied. But since the rules are different from level to level, you have to deduce what those rules are.

The first couple puzzles are typically very simple for you to develop theories about the rules, then the next couple puzzles open things up a little more to let you test them and maybe go back to the drawing board and try some other stuff if your theories were wrong. Then the final puzzle of each set replaces the individual dots with one big bar that takes away hints about whether you're on the right track on a per-rule basis; it's the final exam that tests if you really figured out what the rules are or not.

The levels seem well-designed. There's a mixture of puzzles that are designed to teach you rules, and then some that cheekily send you down one path of assumptions just to shatter them on the next puzzle. Each level I jot down "#1: #2:" etc in a text editor for each rule and update my theories for the rules as I go, and it's pretty funny when the final rules that get me through the level end up being wildly different than the ones I started out with.

Anyway, I'm still early but seems fun, if you liked drawing lines in The Witness it's hard to imagine you wouldn't like this, and it's just $3.

Afaik they are more of the same, so if you liked the first one and want more, go for it.

Not sure if I sung its praises here as much as I did on my other site, but Crosscode was my GOTY for last year (yes it released in beta in 2018, but it released in full on consoles in 2020, so I'm counting it) and I highly recommend it to almost anyone.

They just released the DLC which extends the story and adds another 8-12 hours, and are selling a base game/DLC bundle for 17 when the full price would be closer to 30, so if you havent played it yet, 1000% recommend to get it now.

So I logged in to get the Moving Out DLC only to find out you've added PLATINUM times to the initial set of levels?

****, these are no joke. You have to be pretty much perfect on the 1st level to get it

I got several hours into Crosscode and while I was enjoying the gameplay, the story had not moved at all, so I ended up giving up. Does it get better?

CrossCode is very different from the games I normally play (hate open-world, hate mmos, not that hot on puzzles either), but I just got it and after the first few hours it looks really good. I had it on my wishlist for a very long time, but the above recommendation and 50% sale tipped the scale

The pixelart is fantastic, it might be legit the best looking game I've ever played. The writing is awesome, no idea how they managed to make the main character so likeable with her only knowing 2 words so far. The humor is just right level of meta, maybe a bit too on the nose at times. As mentioned above, the story seems to be unravelling very slowly, but I don't mind, it's clearly a rather slow-paced experience

One thing I'm a bit worried about is the core gameplay loop, I just don't find the combat all that compelling, but hopefully it gets better with more character development

Have you been incorporating different combat arts? They tend to help the gameplay feel a little less samey.

If you're enjoying the story, just wait. It was my favorite VG story last year by far. A lot of really good beats come once it starts really moving

Yes. It's slow for a reason. You need to really be in touch with Lea's character for the later story bits to hit hard. They do a fantastic job with character development

The story really did blow me away considering how small the team is. Couple it with a genuine banger of a soundtrack, and I'm glad to see they got quite a bit of recognition last year

I'm really glad people are enjoying this. It isnt a perfect game by a long shot. The biggest issues being in the gameplay being a bit repetitive and the grinding for resources for the best equipment being a slog, but the overall story, the music, the art, and some really really fantastic puzzles and boss fights make it a way better than average experience

Docfirebird is playing crosscode and I like all the same games as him seemingly. May give it a go.

Do you have too many random battles like 90s rpgs/final fantasies? I hate those things.

None at all. 90% of enemies aren't aggro

Thanks for the recent recommendations.

I wanted to mention a well known game which could have been forgotten already by some. Shovel Knight is much more than what it used to be. There are now four campaigns in the game, Shovel Knight, Plague of Shadows, Spectre Knight and King of Cards. Every campaign is way different than the other and I'm currently on my last one. Despite being able to recognise some of the levels each campaign feels like a brand new game. Each character moves differently and has different skills and the levels are adjusted for that. I honestly think Shovel Knight was the weakest, when I think about it, so if you liked it and you played the game many years ago before these campaigns where made you're in for a treat.
