I'm kinda surprised that almost everyone on 2+2 (myself included) believes Binding of Isaac is the king of the genre.
Binding of Isaac is not only the king of the genre, but it is the king of the 2010s. While there are arguably better games than Binding of Isaac in that decade, there have been so many games that just blatantly copied Binding of isaac that you would never be able to play them all. None of those games are actually better than BoI in my opinion.

Also the servers have been bad for me, constantly running in to 100-150 ms pings now.
I've also had some latency issues playing at certain times. Basically never lagged before.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. That game was monumental in terms of creativity and impact. My buddy 100% the 2nd game and it's honestly one of the most impressive things I've ever heard of.

Yeah this is my biggest problem right now, probably should be fixed in the near future, not sure if they expected this many players. That I can defend them on (unlike some other changes)

3,000,000% or just one save file?

I did recently start to work on a second save file, but it's unlikely I ever do all three. That crowd it something else entirely.

Though, I wonder if clever unlocking paths would make it easier to rush through save files. For example, on the save file I just started I only unlocked the Jera and Hagalaz runes. You can't Jera a Jera to break the game, but Blank Card isn't crazy uncommon.

Nah I don't ever consider platinums on multiple saves

I mean I'm aware some people have but it's still something that takes an absurdly large amount of time and effort.

You have to like Spelunky. It's a surprisingly deep game. Hard but fair (or maybe not always...). Many of us find the learning curve a lot of the appeal. It's full of secrets and unique situations and it has one of best randomly generated levels ever.

Alright I'll try grinding a bit. I find the controls to be slightly slippery and get annoyed accidently clinging to walls a bunch.

For what it’s worth, I don’t really “get” it either.

The sequel has run on by default. I tried playing that way for a bit and found it more difficult. You can toggle it off in options.

Once you have a run where you make it farther than you ever have before surrounded by unfamiliar enemies with items that are rare to find you might understand the appeal. It’s quite harrowing since you know a mistake will send you back to 1-1 stripped of your items. Narrowly escaping death in these instances can be exhilarating.

At its core it’s all about how good you are at running and jumping. The ceiling for how good you can become at this is extremely high.

One of my favourite games ever is -90% off, if anybody doesn't have it yet, it has DLC and some fun stuff for ~5€:

Baldur's Gate 3 early access and pretty pricey, but not sure I'll be able to resist very long. Favourite series of my childhood.

Try Divinity Original Sin 2 if you wanna spend 80 hours for cheap.

One of my all time favorite games.

I've given it a go a few times and got fairly far, just always have petered out at some point. Put a ton of time into Pillars I+II though, and was actually considering replaying II fairly recently.

I came across the game Factorio and have wasted many hours. Do we have a thread for this game? Is anyone else here enjoying it?

If you like Sim-Citying, or if you play games like StarCraft where you like to turtle up and just mine the whole damn map, you'll like this game.

Gave into the hype and got Hades recently - and I have to say that I'm really enjoying it. Direct comparison would be probably Dead Cells and I'd say that even though I enjoy Dead Cells' gameplay more, overall Hades is more fun. The progression system is perfect, and the story adds so much more motivation to play. Roguelike purists will probably be sceptical, but those elements make the experience incredibly enjoyable.

The fatal flaw in Dead Cells was, for me, realizing that unlocking new stuff is actually likely to make you weaker (ie, get bad drops), and Hades-style metagame fixes that. The gameplay itself is a bit button-mashy, so I might get bored eventually, but definitely not soon.

I got the first one and didn't really get it after a few hours and just uninstalled it - got the second one now and decided to give it a proper shot.

It's a game that took some effort and time to get into - I didn't find it very good or enjoyable the first 5 or so hours, but the more I play it, the better it gets.

The controls are so precise and well-tuned that the more you play it, the more enjoyable it gets and it really rewards the time you put into it, both with learning new secrets and mechanics and because it rewards you for just getting better at playing it.

**** those moles though

Picked up The Guise last night. It's basically a poor man's Hollow Knight. I've played about 2 hours so far.

Graphics/Artwork: The game looks great. It's pretty dark.

Platforming: Very basic so far. I did just unlock the wall climb/jump ability though.

Sound/Music: Not bad, but nothing amazing.

Combat: This was the toughest part to get used to for me and I definitely died a lot in the beginning. Now I don't have too many issues, and boss patterns are really easy to figure out.

Bugs/Glitches: Controls feel a little sticky at times and buttons don't always respond in time. Nothing that can't be patched.

Overall I'm having fun with it so far, and for $9, I would recommend if you're a fan of Metroidvania games.
