Indeed there are far worse traps to fall into than buying discounted games on Steam. If you can be strict with yourself and wait for deals rather than ever buy full price it really doesn't cost anything like as much as say, going out drinking regularly or smoking.

So today I am seriously tempted with GTA IV (75% off) and Street Fighter IV (75% off). GTA IV I've played extensively on the PS3 already but at that price it's still a draw. SSIV I may have to get, I played SSII turbo to death on the SNES, amazing game.

likewise. i bought their Rockstar pack months ago when it was 75% off or w/e I have played GTA: SA for a total of maybe 3 hours? I nearly bought RE5 but I was like wtf man, I had that on xbox 360, played it, beat it. played a little more, played some co-op, got bored and sold it. why buy again??

Yeah that just seems silly.

I've bought a few $3 and $5 games that I won't play for awhile, but I definitely am not spending money for someone I have on another system.

I considered getting GTA 4 but meh, having to level up your stats in the gym or something and then maintain them doesn't sound fun to me.

Just discovered I could pick up dropped weapons on Mirrors Edge by clicking the right mouse button. On the very last soldier before the final boss. :S Made the game harder at least.

Ya, a money trap is paying retail for all these games when they come out (although Blizzard has definitely trapped me with starcraft)

ffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

This is such a huge tarp. I'm considering shelling out $49.99 for the complete Telltale collection, and I don't even like their games that much and the last one I tried to play crashed on me. The deal is just too sick though...Sam & Max Seasons 1 (already played), 2, and 3, Strong Bad full series, Wallace & Gromit full series, two Bone games, Monkey Island S1, probably forgetting some other crap (Texas Hold'em game).

X-Com collection for like $4. Already own the first two on old CD-ROMs and not interested in the others, but would consider this just so there's no problem running them.

Broken Sword 2 & 3 for $2 each or $3 combined is a good deal for adventure gamers, although of course you'd want to play 1 first.

You're thinking of GTA:SA. GTAIV is the one where you have to babysit your needy ass cousin and take him bowling. It's not necessary for the story though and you can ignore it if you like. You just won't get the bonuses associated with relationships with certain people.

Had no idea you could pick up weapons in Mirror's Edge. I've been leaving machine guns lying on the ground like a sucker.

Team Fortress 2 is on sale for $6.49. Assuming I jump on this, is there any reason for me to just buy TF Complete (TF 1 & 2) or TF2 and Garry's Mod? Either one would be approximately $10 more.

T1 is completely different from T2 and I didn't like it at all. Garry's Mod is cool if you like fiddling with stuff and have tons of free time.

I'd just get T2, that game is really good and fun. Played it way more than HF2

I've got some games I bought a year ago at GOG and still haven't played. But it's pretty cool having some just sitting there waiting for me to be in the mood or have the time. Kinda like when you stock up on a variety of food so you don't necessarily want to eat now, because later you don't want to feel forced to eat something you're not in the mood for.

Crap. I waited to buy TF2 until I logged on to 2+2 to see if I got any responses to my question (thanks, by the way), and then I forgot about it. It's still only $13, though, so I guess I'll still get it.

TF2 was $2.50 a month ago or so.

I bought some copies for friends.

Anyone bought the Guild 2 or know how good it is? Its on offer today but has pretty average reviews mainly due to bugs. This was released 4 years ago so hopefully some of the bugs have been patched.

Also mass effect 2 is 40% off for those that missed it last time.

Excellent. Beat the first one already and it was great. Sad I missed out on the 2nd.

I only played a few hours of left 4 dead 2 but it was exactly the same as the first with different maps.

Steam's turning me into a cheapskate. I'm having a hard time paying more than $20 for anything. Also, Torchlight is a great game - esp now that it's $5.

In my opinion Left 4 Dead 1 is vastly superior to the sequel. It doesn't have the range of different mission or weapon types but what is there is really masterfully put together. The level design in particular is outstanding with really well positioned channel points and a nice degree of polish added on top. Each level really feels right, it captures the zombie apocalypse genre perfectly.

In contrast the sequel is rushed large rectangular maps with stuff placed down all over the shop and barely finished art assets. I would bet a decent amount of money the "primary" level design team was moved off left 4 dead onto ep3 or whatever and left 4 dead 2 was handed over to the second string team - and it shows.

I played 1 to death over a period of months but stopped played the second one after a couple of weeks.

Having said all that if you've played the sequel first you might find youself saying "meh" and wondering what all the fuss is about.

Just got the Guild 2 and Torchlight.
This all adds up to lotsa monies.. I keep on telling myself that poker will pay for it all but I don't have time to grind with all these games to play

Yup, this is me. I bought L4D2 when it was released and only just recently bought L4D1. I have enjoyed L4D2 much more, despite its flaws.

For me, what makes L4D2 more enjoyable is the wider variety of Special Infected, making Versus Mode, in particular, more fun for me.

I do agree that that maps in L4D1 are better, but I will say that the Bridge finale of L4D2 is pretty epic. It gets a bit old after you've played it a million times in Versus, but the first couple times you get to that Bridge, it's kind of an "OMG" video game moment.

While I have bought a few Steam games during this sale, L4D2 is still my go-to game.
