PC Nier: Automata needs work with mods to make it play well on various systems, an official patch never came. The mods do sort it out nicely though, IIRC.

I picked it up on PC since I haven't seen it ever be that highly discounted. I am still a little concerned because my graphics card isn't the best, but at about an hour and a half in, I haven't had any problems yet.

From what I've read, you really want to play Nier with a controller, so either get it on PS or use some program that let's you use PS controller on PC.

Disgaea 5 Complete has finally announced it will release on 10/22. They are offering demo codes if you have an Alienware account. Last I checked, there were 6,600 codes remaining. They will also have a special discounted price up to a week after launch. Your save data will carry over if you decide to buy the game.

Yeah, I got excited today when I saw I got an email today from Steam about Rimworld. I thought "Woot, they finally put it on sale!!!"

I then read that it's leaving early access and they have raised the price to $35.

Grr.

This looks kinda funny, but not 12 dollars funny:

Pixellated 2.5D shooter inspired by early 90s games

Return of the Obra Dinn is out, by Lucas Pope, the guy that made Papers, Please. The game is about a trading ship in the 1800s where most of the crew died in various ways on its way back home, and your role is to piece things together using some kind of magical compass (or pocket watch?) that shows you flashbacks of each person's death. If you've played The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, it's a bit like that, where you reconstruct events via flashbacks and environmental clues and have to render an accurate account based on several available options. It's also a lot like Clue. There are 60 crew members, and you have to tie each passenger together with their name, manner of death, and if murdered, by whom. There's a journal with some preliminary information like a crew manifest with names, their occupations and nationalities, and photos of various crew members, and an empty chronological log of various events during the voyage that fills out as you discover new things.

It's a 3D game with some intentionally lo-fi filters that you can mess around with like Macintosh grayscale (the one in the trailer), Commodore 64 etc. I grew up with early Macs and it definitely has that graphical feel. Other than walking around, you don't really have any interaction options other than opening doors, and using the compass and journal. It takes some getting used to with how the timeline works, and different types of flashbacks, but it's pretty intuitive and very unique. I think most people that enjoyed Papers, Please will like this one.

I watched Scott Manley's review of Obra Dinn. The 'making of' stuff was also pretty interesting. The $20 price tag for a niche game - not so much.

How is EA origin? I think EA is literally my most disliked video game company that hasn't ripped people off ala no man sky.

The $5 monthly plan is great if you want to play a bunch of old games in a single month that would cost you more than $5 to buy. Some great games on there including the entire mass effect and dead space series the client app is still hot garbage of course, but it's not unusable

Does Obra Dinn have proceduraly generated names and replayability or is the game one playthrough only?
If it is randomized I would love it and it reminds me of that old (atari st at the time) game :
