were you ever a rise of nations fan? I think it got a re-release or remaster some time ago. I loved the heck out of that game.

OOTP released some more info on their new game mode called "perfect team." Sadly it sounds like an Ultimate team rip-off.

(I could swear I've asked about this game/genre in here before, but searching for numerous key words I can't find it)

One of my favorite parts of Cities: Skylines was trying to design road systems to ease traffic jams - Train Valley was an interesting transport puzzler in a similar vein, as well. Curious what other games are like that.
I went to it looking for a Railroad Tycoon update, which this isn't really good at. It's good though, especially if you want to design a big rail network that fails catastrophically if you haven't set up an elaborate network of opaque signals.

Glad to be of service

I think they are doing a free game every day this month until Amazon's shameless attempt at creating a shopping holiday of Prime day comes around.

Will someone do me a favor?

Go to the Sniper Elite 4 store page and let me know if it bugs out for you.

It won't let me scroll down, click on anything or back out of the page. It's been like this for a few days and I keep getting stuck on that page in the store. I have to exit and then restart Stream.

I'm trying to figure out if it's something on my end or if it's a problem with Stream.

Someone found a way to find extract game sales using a bug in the global achievement tracker API for lifetime Steam sales. Ars has an article and an archived version of the csv since Valve patched the bug.

Some of the numbers are way higher than I would have thought, like GTA V at 12.6 mil, though almost all of the top ones are Valve game with TF2 at 50.2 mil. I'd love to see a break down of some top titles (non-EA or Ubisoft published) and how the sales compare between the consoles and PC. Dark Souls 3 at 3.2 million seems like it has to be the highest selling platform, since they announced 3 million global sales a few months after release and that's when console games have like 90% of their lifetime sales.

EDIT: from the article, it's not clear if the global achievement percentages take into account all users who own the game but may not have installed or played it, or only the subset who have installed the game, or just the ones that have earned at least one achievement. And achievements were only added in somewhere around 2010. And finally achievements may be added after launch, so these numbers are probably low for a lot of titles.

That game actually looked pretty sick from the trailer given the story and everything. Excited to be able to give it a try.

Pretty fun an hour in. I'm a bit mystified at the ssh implementation and proxy overloading. I tried remoting in with shell to a compromised system, then chaining from there to the target, and the overload command doesn't seem to do anything until I backtrack and add another host in the chain, and do it enough times, then it just works. I understand it's supposed to be some kind of memory overload on the target proxy, but it makes no sense that adding another link in the chain would have any effect on the CPU usage or network load of the target. And the logs on each system I've accessed in the shell chain lists my own IP, but should only show the ip of the last system I remoted in from. Am I doing/thinking about it wrong and stumbled on to a solution or what's going on?

Wat?

If I’m understanding their in-game terminology, this “proxy overload” is essentially a DDoS. (distributed denial of service) It’s what all the kiddies use to take down the PlayStation network, Xbox live, etc. Overwhelming the target with junk requests it has to reply to until its overwhelmed, as every reply takes a small bit of CPU/memory as each spawns a new process on the target.

That’s definitely not right. Unless there was some step you missed in setting up your proxy (like an in-game specific “mask my source IP”) it shouldn’t show your actual address.

I was overthinking it. You can't spawn shell processes from other systems in this game. If I had access to hosts A, B, C and target D, I was trying to log in to A, connect a shell to B, log in to B, run a shell to C, etc. What was really happening was my own system had 4-5 shells running, one to each system from my own. When I finally ran a shell to the target D, that was the only one where running the shell's overload command had any effect, the other shells were overloading A/B/C etc to no effect. And so when I thought target D should only show access from host C in the log file (and not my own IP like was happening), C logging access from B, B from A and A from my own system, that's not how the game works.
