Yeah I just tried it out and it's a lot like One Finger Death Punch which is a good thing.

It's great for one hour atm. It seems like it's a single guy working on it and it was just released, I think if he keeps pumping out updates it will be a couple hours of plain fun

Anyone tried Dragon's Dogma? It's a console port, that's supposedly well done, and is getting good reviews.

I'm just worried that after The Witcher it'll seem a bit stale.

I would really like an in-depth guide to this game (roster composition, efficient party/skill setup, recommendations for optimal hamlet and skill upgrade order etc.) If anyone has a good resource on that (apart from the wiki), please share!
https://www.reddit.com/r/darkestdungeon/ has decent advice imo.

I also enjoyed watching Lethalfrag play the game lately (both on twitch and youtube). He won his first run in week 105ish, mostly by figuring stuff out by himself and having his viewers commentate.

Here are some of my biggest aha's:
  • Fresh recruits are a free resource. That makes upgrading the stage coach early incredibly valuable.
  • Stress is a big deal and should be avoided/mitigated in dungeon at a higher priority than damage. All hp is instantly healed when you leave a dungeon and you have consumables (food) to heal hp but not stress, and healing combat-skills are more common and effective than stresshealing skills.
  • Relieving stress in town however is a money sink and a noob trap. In the early game I think its optimal to just cycle through recruits while you build up your town and money surplus. Eventually you will need to start leveling an A-team (and maybe a B-team) to take on higher level dungeons but it is incredibly expensive to upgrade their skills/equipment and manage their stress/quirks/sickness. If you hold out on it until you've decresed the cost of upgrades/treatments you will save a ton of cash. Additionally, all heroes relieve a small amount of stress each week while idle.
  • Cash is king in this game. Its the most valuable resource except for deeds in the early game to level up the stage coach.
  • Once you start taking on red missions (level 5-6), make sure you have all your toons max upgraded. Also, camping skills are more important than they look. It's often worth it to camp early in tough level 5-6 missions because the camping buffs are huge.
  • Speaking of buffs, most combat buffs are trash. The math just isn't very favorable. Giving up a whole turn is a huge opportunity cost and usually better spent just hitting something as hard as you can. Healing is sometimes necessary but usually not as good as just killing stuff. Notable exceptions are the Jester's Battle Ballad and the Man-at-Arms' Bolster, which can be ok in the right spots.
  • AoEs similarly are pretty weak but still usuable in some situations, again because of math (doing 8hp worth of damage to two 10hp enemies is just worse than doing 10hp to one of them, even though 8x2 > 10).
  • Speed is very valuable. If your team goes first you can often kill off one unit, effectively eliminating 25-33% of the enemies combat effectiveness before you suffer one hit.
  • Be flexible. There are many effective team comps. And different comps are optimal for each zone (e.g. bleed comp is great in weald, sucks in cove. Reverse is true for blight comp).

One Finger Death Punch is much much more difficult. Although a bit grindy, it takes a while to get to really difficult stages.

Has anybody played Ziggurat? It's -70% on GOG atm and maybe it didn't explode but TB was quite fond of it as being one of a kind in the genre and quite well done. It also has decent reviews on Steam (91% over 1800 sample)

What about ARK?
Friend recently got it. He loves it. I'm not a fan of H1Z1/DayZ. Would this still be something I'd like?

I have +1300hrs on ARK so I'm a little biased but I love it.

It's not really a survival game like H1/DZ but you do have to survive.

There's plenty of servers to choose from to cater to how you want to play. Finding a good server/admin combo is key to having fun.

Damn 1300 hours seems like a lot for 7 months.

I'm just torn because Blade and Soul(downloaded but not played) and Fortnite is consuming my time.

Do I need another grind-y type game to suck my life?

1300 hours is a full time job. That is dedication.

I have no life but I have 1 hell of a base and fear nothing in the game.

Damn that is like ~6 hours a day on average. Ever consider streaming on twitch? Maybe build up a viewer base and make a few bucks while you play the **** out of that game

I've only played the console version. Combat is different but probably better than the Witcher 3, though it could get tedious after a while. Tons of side quests but the quality is nowhere near Witcher 3's. There is a few pretty epic main quests early on. Don't know how it progresses past like 20 hours as I moved and lost interest, but I will probably pick it up on pc when there's a sale (not that $30 is a bad price for this).

Ugh. 3 hours left to pull the trigger on the Firaxis Humble Bundle.

I know it's kind of supposed to suck, but I think I want Civ: BE. I'm not a hard-core Civ guy and feel like I'd enjoy it. This is obviously a sick bundle overall, but I have a ton of the stuff already: Civ III-V plus DLC, XCOM (haven't played it, though), and Pirates.

So if I paid $15, I'd be doing it for the BE pack, the XCOM add-ons, Starships, and Ace Patrol. I suppose if BE: Rising Tide goes down in price this month, the coupon might be handy.

I should probably just buy it and enjoy. Maybe I could gift the Tier 1 bundle to my brother or someone and make myself feel good.

I'm interested in hearing impressions of this too, was thinking of grabbing it but I'm worried there isn't enough in it to have a lot of longevity.

Do you have enemy within? If not, the bundle is worth it

Looks like I just have XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Yeah, I should probably just buy it. I'd probably get BE if it was a few bucks less, so it's silly to deliberate over the price at this point. Plus, I'm getting some other content.

American Truck Simulator just released, even though I found ETS2 a bit tedious after ~20 hours I'm a bit excited about it, maybe because I'm a euro.

I've played a ton of ETS2 and will definitely be getting American Truck Simulator soon - plan is to wait until my Oculus Rift arrives sometime in May before getting it, but not sure I'll be able to wait that long.
