Paradox Interactive week: new game on sale now through sunday.

Complete pack with every game + DLC is on sale for $99.99

Considering the hundreds of hours you can spend with even one Paradox game it's a pretty good deal.

Anyone got Hard Reset? I'm playing the demo and it's pretty cool. Feels like a true old-school FPS but with graphics that are comparable to, or even better than, Crysis 2.

I dont get it. Is it a different Paradox game on sale each day or is the Paradox sale only today? Neither really makes as i can apparently buy each of the games in the Complete Pack individually with the same % off as in the CP (and because it's Paradox Interactive week).

anyway, what are their best games? I played and enjoyed Hearts of Iron 2, is 3 better (+ is the DLC worth it?)? Ive also heard good stuff about Europa Universalis and Mount & Blade, are they worth the time?

I bought the complete pack during the Summer Sale but the only game I've played so far is Europa Universalis 3. I've put 90 hours into it so far and think it is awesome. Never played another Paradox game but Hearts of Iron 3 looks good.

Europa Universalis 3 is one of my favorite games ever. I've spent hundreds of hours playing that damn game.

You can get Europa Universalis Chronicles for 14.99. That includes all 4 expansions. With all of those expansions, it is a monumental strategy game, IMO. There isn't another game that even compares. It is an extremely unique game that is also massive in its scope.

I've had several very fun games. In one, I was Sweden. I focused on trade and colonization. I also unified Scandinavia. I became a colonial power by focusing early on Canada and working my way down the eastern coast. I also plundered the Aztecs and Incas (always a good time). A few hundred years into the game I was dealing with a newly formed Russia to the east and a newly formed Germany to the south. I also had to deal with overseas conflict with Castille, Portugal, England, and France starting various colonial wars. You don't have a lot of manpower in Scandinavia, but you can focus on defensive wars at home that utilize winter penalties. Overseas, the battles can be tough, but having a powerhouse navy was the key to keeping my colonies intact.

In another game, I started as Tuscany which is a small 2 province minor country. I unified Italy (which isn't easy since it is so fractured and Venice, Milan, and Genoa are tough). Instead of colonizing, I waged war against the Muslims in Northern Africa and in the Middle East. I spread protestantism across the area, including Jerusalem. Eventually, I controlled all the area around the Mediterranean including Greece and Turkey. I spread east into India in the latter years of that game.

One of my favorite games was starting as Switzerland and becoming an expansionist state. You start out as a nation set up to be a very powerful trading power, but you can also turn that into military might 50-100 years into the game. It was fun being the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire as the leader of Switzerland. In that game, I decided to wage war with China using naval invasions in the late 1600's. The Chinese had no match for the much more advanced European weaponry despite outnumbering me by 5-1 in soldiers.

There are so many options in EU3 because you can be any country in existence at the time. The alternate timelines are a lot of fun to take part in and watch unfold.

I'm only on my 2nd game of EU3. My first game I started as Castille just to learn the basics. I captured the entire Iberian Peninsula and northern/western africa. Then I decided to invade France and they said "lol wat" and that was the end of that game.

My current game I started as Austria and eventually reformed as the Holy Roman Empire so I am rolling my way across the map going for a World Conquest. At this point my victory is all but assured.

The Holy Roman Empire (the dark teal is my vassel):

The rest of the world:

I bought it and really liked it however I beat it in 4 hours. It's fun enough to replay but I would have liked it to be a little longer. If you're not sure about it then wait until it's on sale, I don't really think it's worth $30 for it's length. Serious Sam 3 is another old school style shooter I'm really looking forward to.

It's a transport management game. Not my cup of tea but I know a few people that enjoy it. I prefer overall city sims like Sim City 4 or Cities XL.

I love EU3, wasted so much time on it already.

Current game I'm playing as Burgundy, the year is currently 1624. I formed the Holy Roman Empire, annexed France (because f France) and currently expanding east between the Ottomans in the south and Muscovy/Lithuania in the north and have just reached Sibir.

Norway and Denmark have messed up Sweden and have a load of their provinces. Castille has completely imploded, every one of their provinces is controlled by rebels so Granada, Portugal and Aragon are dividing up their core provinces, Norway/United Kingdom are snapping up their North American colonies and Granada their South American ones. The United Kingdom is going to be trouble though. This world is going to have a strange map when its finished.

Spoiler:

Still got 200 odd years to conquer the earth Next game I think I'll play as a native American civilisation and try and survive the European invaders

Do it. It is very epic. I'm assuming sometime in the next 4 days it will be the daily deal and be even cheaper then the already low price of $14.99.

I remember early in the game I'm still playing when I was still Austria. Austria starts with a fairly strong position, at least compared to the smaller 1-2 province countries around her. I immediately marched into northern Italy and got a nice little skirmish going and came away with 3 more provinces.

I knew I wanted to form the Holy Roman Empire so I avoiding warring with all the minor German countries. Bohemia was the Emperor so I alternatively allied with Poland & Hungary to weaken him while also keeping each other in check. Eventually all 3 were weakened enough that I declared war on Bohemia & Hungary and took multiple provinces from each. Poland was getting gangbanged by both the Teutonic Order and the Golden Horde so I joined in and got a piece of the pie.

All this time I'd been allied with various countries trying to keep France from growing too strong, while also trying to keep England off mainland Europe. I allied with Burgundy and they kicked England out of northern France and were a thorn in France's side. After a few minor wars with France between me, Burgundy, & Normandy we had liberated most of France's vassels and the threat of a French empire was no more. By the time I formed the HRE as a hereditary state, France only had 1 province overrun with rebels.

Also you can play multiplayer with each person selecting a different country to play as. Haven't tried it but it sounds like it could be fun.

I read so many bad reviews, I never got Civ5. Can you elaborate on mods for it? I looked in http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=395 for a minute or so, but it's not obvious which one of those is really ready for prime time and is good.

I thought Fall From Heaven in Civ4 was very impressive, even if I didn't have the gaming time to really get into it as much as I would have liked. Does Civ5 have something on that scale (if not that theme)?

These two are currently the two major contenders:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=418

NiGHTS aims more towards a total conversion, with big changes like population PROVIDING happiness instead of the Civ5 unhappiness or raising the total number of social policies up to around 100.

The other one is more of a giant community patch, that aims to keep the base vanilla style.

Both offer tons of fixes and each add their own style. You can read more on them here: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011...tion-v-nights/

There is currently nothing in the scope of FallFromHeaven because Firaxis has not release the core DLLs ( that were released 6 months after the game came out for Civ4 ) that are needed to mod ALL aspects of the game.

I tried using the search feature and didn't see this mentioned. Anyone hear anything good about Game of Thrones: Genesis? It takes place 1000 years before the books and is supposed to be a RTS that will be available through Steam.
I really don't know much beyond that and was wondering if anyone has read anything good/bad.

But I'll try tonight.
