LOL that just gave me flashbacks. Exactly what happened to me the first time I tried turning on my custom built PC.

My most fun custom build experience involved a case that had a clear window on one side. First time I turn it on that **** fills with smoke and has a foul-ass smell to it. ABORT ABORT POWER OFF UNPLUG

Eventually tracked it down to a penny that somehow found a very unfortunate location to lodge itself somewhere near the power switch and I guess had some contacts with electricity. It was half melted. Shockingly the system was fine after getting rid of it.

Same thing happened to me. Weird.

Edit: just read about this auction stuff and ugh, you guys have fun with that. I'm not touching it.

It's already down anyway because some people found a gem dupe and sold millions of gems for cheap.

Does anyone have any insight on moving your steam library to a new PC without re-downloading things? I've moved games into my steam apps folder (and tried what was suggested on their website) but it still wants me to 'download' the full game.

When you click download, it will seem like its downloading for a few seconds but it's really just checking what files you have and verifying them. I've moved games from PC to laptop quite a few times.

It was still downloading the whole thing, but I worked out that was because I very stupidly missed the /common/ folder when moving across, putting them straight into /steamapps. Pretty lol mistake to make, but certainly beats having to download everything again :P And thanks for the help

How good is Shadows of Mordor? I got a GTX 970 during the Black Friday sales so am keen to play a game that takes advantage of all that graphical horsepower. Comparisons to the Arkham Asylum combat sound good. Comparisons to Assassin's Creed are off-putting. Only AC game I've played is Brotherhood, which got boringly repetitive after a few hours.

^Just FYI it's currently 33% off at GreenManGaming but there is also an additional 20% code on your order if you get e-mails from Playfire, which seems like a decent price for PC. Seems like the kind of game I will be getting on console, though.

I really liked it and I generally dislike single player games. The combat is fun, and the game looks absolutely stunning. However, like most single player games it got old in <30 hours of play though.

The GMG discount is what prompted the question. £20 is the sorta price where even if I'm only entertained for a few hours, it's no big loss. Wasn't aware of Playfire but have signed up - do they just send you discounts?

I did play it for 10 hours or so until I got bored just like I did for AC 1 and AC 2. It was decently fun though until then. It is pretty much better Assasin's Creed with slightly better combat and better game progression thanks to being more open world and having multiple quests open at same time. The core game still remains the same, you roam areas and kill some irrelevant orcs, find hidden stuff, then you eventually run into captain which you can 1vs1 most of time although you better start running when 2 more captains show up. The tougher captains might need some preparation like scouting and dropping bunch of bees on them, I never really found them necessary though.

^Probably because I am a lazy Mac gamer who will never get around to installing Boot Camp and Windows. I also like playing action games like that on the bigger screen. In any case, I'm not in a rush to buy any new full-length games like that given my backlog, so will just see how things develop.

Oh Mac, yeah that will limit your options. I play almost all my PC games on a TV with a controller though.

Maybe wires in the fans?

So this is odd.

It's not coming from the gpu.

It seems to be coming from the psu. I unplugged the gpu and started the comp again and the same noise is coming.

Additionally, when I lay the unit on its side, it stopped

sounds like a faulty psu, you should probably try and get it replaced
