On sale this week for ten bucks. If it's half of what it claims it has to be worth the buy, but I have no idea.
Bought the game, been playing it for a few hours. I'm not really sure how to give my first impressions in the best way - it's not a bad game, but also, I am disappointed.
It's pretty much just a tower defense game. The only thing it really has in common with tactics is that you can acquire generic Rangers, Berserkers, Ice Mages, etc. which you then give gear to. Basically anything that really made people go "Wow..." about tactics isn't there.
The levels so far are pretty simple; there is no challenge. The best places to put your units are generally very obvious, and if you can't beat a level, it's typically a function of needing higher levels and/or better gear, not poor strategy.
For that reason I can't really recommend the game. There doesn't seem to be that much, if any, thought provoking strategy, which is what makes tower defense cool. I'm sure I'll play it some more just to give it its full fair shake, but I'm pretty unimpressed overall.
The story isn't entirely generic, but the game is littered with generic fantasy terms and items with no context or importance. "Oh, a Staff carved from the World Tree." Never mind that we never see the World Tree, or know its importance, or anything like that.... build a mythos or don't, whatever, but don't litter your game with meaningless fantasy genre static.
The game is in flash and absolutely feels like I should be playing this for free on Armor Games or Kongregate, in fact, there are plenty of free games there in the same genre (such as Kingdom Rush) that are free + premium options that are clearly superior titles.
Reading the description and the notes from the developers, I'd say this is a case of a decent game that is way better in the devs minds than it is in reality.
