Shooting games have had the pretty ubiquitous option to turn blood and gore off for at least a decade, which seems similar to the common editing of movies/tv/music removing cursing/nudity/gore for tv/radio.

What did Mortal Kombat have on SNES? Green Blood? I also remember like tan blood or something in some game, maybe that was puke?

Sweat colored. Different fatalities also.

a few months ago I subscribed to the Origin Basic thingy and decided to try BF5 even if apparently the whole world seems to think the game is complete crap and not worth playing.

I now have 80 hours in BF5.

Just started to get into Civ 5 which I had sitting in my library for years. Guess I'll be upgrading.

it's not guaranteed you'll like 6 over the 5.

Yeah I bought Civ 6 for like $12 on humble a couple years ago and I lasted 1 game. It is a joke how simplistic that game is.

Civ 6 has a lot of stuff I hate, but also some stuff I really like. Vanilla civ 6 > Vanilla civ 5. Main issue with civ for me these days is that Paradox games are just better. Nonetheless, I do have 200 hours on Civ 6 and I'm sure you'll enjoy at least the few first games you play.

Honestly Vanilla Civ6 is pretty meh, but with both expansions it's better than civ 5 with expansions. It's definitely not as simplistic as you make it out to be. It's an excellent game, but I also know I would never play Vanilla now that I know how the expansions are.

I believe the 1st expansion was out when I played it. The problem was that strategy didn't matter. I remember focusing my entire game towards a culture victory, realizing with less than 50 turns left that another Civ would beat me in Culture, so I switched to Science and built the spacecraft and won the game, uninstall.

Ehhh, strategy does matter. Bump up the difficulty. It's true that you can do pretty much whatever the hell you want on Emperor or below.

I greatly disliked vanilla Civ6 compared to 5, to the point of abandoning it entirely to just keep playing 5. After the latest expansion came out, I gave 6 another shot and have since come around. I'm hundreds of hours into 6 now and three civs away from completing my Hall of Fame.

Civ has always been kinda like XCOM in that the game gets "easier" as you start to snowball. At the end of the day you're still playing against an AI that is designed to be fun for the player, and not simply punitive. The discussion always comes up on forums about what the game devs can do to make Civ "harder" but suggestions are always things that would eliminate underlying game mechanics or undermine the design. If you want to get your ass mercilessly kicked, play Multiplayer.

For anyone who loved Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun There is what amounts to an old west skinned version of the game coming out next month.

Not really sure how a different studio can release a game that appears to have 90% the same game mechanics as a previous game, just with a different theme. Maybe someone involved in the industry can explain that to me. Can game mechanics be copyrighted??

Not shitting on Desperados here, just curious. Will definitely be getting the game b/c I loved Shadow Tactics.

Elasto Mania has been released on Steam after almost 20 years:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1290220/Elasto_Mania

I don't know how popular was this game in other countries in but in Poland when we were in junior high school it was absolutely massive and I assume it's still a blast to play. I don't know but there were many small games that many of us played for months and wouldn't get bored, for example already mentioned EM, Liero, Blobby Volley, Deluxe Ski Jump, Icy Tower

Yeah, same for me/us in Finland (although we 10-13).

We used to play a lot of Liero, Triplane turmoil, Tappo 2, Tapan Kaikki, Deluxe Ski Jump... (all Finnish games, btw, which probably contributed to (some of) them being more accessable in Poland too.)

Darkest Dungeon is free for the weekend on steam. It's a fun one if you haven't played it yet.

Thanks. I've heard good things and horrific things about it. Been on my radar but might be too frustrating.

It's tough but just know that it's tough and it's ok. People will die and you'll for sure fail quests. The problem is the late game gets a bit zzz once you start rolling. The early-mid game is incredible tho.
