GTA didn't age well. One of the biggest problem is lack of saving, if you remember you have to complete a map before your progress saves. It's a couple of hours of work, maybe you can just leave it open to circumvent it. But if I remember correctly dying resets your multiplier making it harder to get required money to complete the level?

Since the discussion is also about comfort gaming - I've been playing Diablo 2 for the past weeks

I was looking at the Epic sale for Anno 1800 and if you want the DLC it's actually an insane price with the coupons.

Anno 1800 is €30 - €10

Complete edition is €60 - 10€

But the season passes are both €17.50 - 10

So if you buy base game + 2 season passses on their own you can get the complete edition for €35, because you get a new coupon after every purchase.

Still a bit much for me, but it's more of a FYI

New (and perhaps final) EU4 DLC finally have a release date: June 9th. I'd recommend everyone to spend their summer playing the best game of all time.

I don't understand GTA5. It's pretty much been sitting somewhere in the top 10 list for sales at Steam since it was released 6-7 years ago.

How is it selling so good for so many years (and still have people falling over themselves to pick it up once it is free)?
How are there still people even remotely interested in this game that haven't gotten it years ago?

It's a great game and I strongly disagree with the single player having been in any way sacrificed (I've tried the multiplayer for <5 hours as it didn't interest me at all), but I have no idea how it's consistently selling so much for... well... ever?

Is it a cs-like scenario where the same people keep buying it again and again because they get caught cheating and banned from multiplayer?

Children’s parents not allowing them to play and coming of age is prob a factor.

It's not going to keep it in the top 10 for 7 years though - especially since all kids these days seem to want to play is fortnite.

Apparently the online RolePlaying community in GTA V is wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide. Check out some of the Twitch channels pulling in massive viewer numbers for GTA V. They don't actually DO anything. Its pretty crazy.

Yea, but still... 6+ years, pretty much constantly in the top ten best sellers list?

It's not just a slow trickle of people coming of age or slowly getting into a community - I just don't understand how that happens unless the same people keep buying it again for some reason (like cs-bans).

RPS had a weekly 'top ten sellers on Steam'-list going for years and GTA5 was, barring a very few weeks, always on the list somewhere. The last few years they just gave it a silly name, a screeenshot from another game and linked to a "what's something else you can buy instead of gta5'-product as a running joke because it was always there.

I think GTA5 is one of the very best games in the past decade - I just don't see how it constantly sold (sells) to a top ten every week for all those years since release.

Not just Steam either - I read threads on US sales chart (NPD) and UK when I see them, and GTAV has been consistently top 10 seller even in physical console discs on both Xbox and Playstation for all these years. Lol, just checked for a reference - this is insane:

GTA5 is the first proper game my kid (12) bought after minecraft.

I was uming and ahing about letting him get it, but when I realised my peers and I went out of our to see the goriest most disturbing vhs's we could when I was his age (and broadly succeeded) I realised I would be a massive hypocrite if I stopped him.

12 seems a bit young based on my upbringing on what I can remember. I think 14-15 would be my target. But I have two girls, so that likely wont be a problem for me, I have other different fights to come.

In a vacuum I would say the same, but then I remember all the things my parents tried to stop me seeing and failed, because the moment I was not allowed to see something, all efforts were applied to seeing it.

I was forbidden from seeing Alien for example, coz alien bursts out of chest. It was fairly trivial to see it.

Dont think it did me any damage.

The one thing that is different involves another digital media type. In the UK when I was young it was pretty hard to see porn. Now not so much.

If it made you think that iconic scene was trivial, then some damage was done.

I'm definitely not judging you, was just trying to pinpoint my own expectation, and then probably cave in when they got closer to that age.

One thing I have always wondered, and I assume there is some reason why it never happens, is why not have age related edits for media.

too much work, besides things would be easily unlockable by some cracks in lower age versions and that wouldn't like the rating authority

They do that for songs on the radio and some movies on TV.

Its not that hard to edit scenes from a film or tv show and then you have a bigger market to show it too.

You cant crack the cinema.
