I've watched a few of my streamers playing Planet Coaster, looked fun and they seemed to like. Looks like a pretty faithful modern remake of Roller Coaster Tycoon 3.

What are your guys opinions on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER? It is $399 and you get Control + Wolfenstein: Youngblood. I'm considering upgrading from the GTX 1060 3GB. Mostly want to max FPS on my 1080p 144hz monitor.

No idea if this thread is a good place for this, but I have ~$65 in my steam wallet that I don’t plan on using. If anyone needs something on Steam in that price range, I’d take PayPal / Venmo / Cash app for like 90% value.

nice, now are you going for the Tuesday achievement?

Does anyone here play games to get achievements? The entire system boggles my mind. I guess it's kinda interesting to see that I've gotten one when I'm playing, but I do not get the people who play the game, often in unfun ways, in order to get achievements.

Only in EU4. In a game that lacks a victory condition achievements can be nice goals to play for.

If I woulda been younger and got a system with achievments, I would have been all over that. I am the type who wants to complete games 100%, so achievements would have been that for me. As a kid playing the original Legend of Zelda, there was a page in the game manual that says something about there being a secret on every screen and I did everything to try to find them (even though I am pretty sure that isn't the case).

Yeah EU4 is the only game I play specifically with the achievements in mind. Other games I'm playing for large chunks of time I'll usually take a look at the achievements at some point and go for them if they don't require a lot of effort I otherwise wouldn't spend.

If I really like the game, like enough that the game is in my personal Top 10 games/series of all time I might go for all the achievements. They only games like this I specifically remember are Hitman (2016), Hitman 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

Oh dear, achievements are often stupid.

But if I love a game achievements keep me playing it. I wouldn't have played Binding of Isaac for 500~ hours if I didn't want unlock everything. Same with Dark Souls, I'd have finished with one playthrough or two, instead by setting a goal of 100% the game I had an additional 100 hours of fun.

Similarly:
Enter the Gungeon
Hexcells (all 3)
Spelunky (almost, except for the coop one)
Squarecells

and a few more. As soon as I hit 100% I dumped almost all of these games immediately and never looked back.

However it's not always like that. It all depends on the achievements and the game. I recently finished Cuphead, I loved it but there's no way I'd redo the bosses to get perfect scores, sounds boring. I loved Nuclear Throne enough to get 67 hours out of that, but I have only 27/44 achievements, I think I've seen everything I wanted to see and there's not much else, if the gameplay doesn't offer much new I'm not going to get those. Stardew Valley 96 hours and 29/40 and I think I've seen enough, grinding the days just to get the last bunch is very achievable but not appealing to me.

Contrary to this Crypt of the Necrodancer has a lot of achievements which are absolutely insane and tough, however I recently came back to it after 70 hours of playtime (when I thought I've done everything I wanted) and I'm slowly working on these achievements as they're helping me set some goals and have fun. I'm sure I'm not even going to attempt the last 10-15 achievements or so.

And there you have games without open goals like Civ 5, CK2, EU4 like others already mentioned are great for achievements because it helps you set up a goal in mind to aim for. I'd add Renowned Explorers: International Society to this which despite being a roguelike (so every run is different) I'm also having an itch recently to come back to it to untick some achievements.

edit: and I hate all of the achievements which are like "Use this stupid weapon and kill 5 opponents at once". Jesus.

I will pursue even stupid achievements just to see my % go up. To me that's part of the fun as well as the feeling of satisfaction.

I just try to min-max renown runs . Too bad they have nerfed (fine, balanced) a lot of the treasures and captain perks, so it is really hard to score 20k now. I think my best run without savescumming was 17k and with scumming 23k.

I don’t even look at achievements but I could see why people might enjoy them.

I do the challenges in Fortnite because I'm not good enough to actually win.

In Pillars of Eternity: Deadfire, achievements give you points that can be spent on bonuses for a second playthrough. As a result, it’s the only game where I’ve given a damn about obtaining achievements. More games should take a cue from this and try to impart a tangible benefit to achievements.

Really enjoying Streets of Rogue. I played a free version awhile back while it was still in development and love all the different playable characters and different ways of approaching missions.

Got Xbox Game Pass to play Outer Wilds after the comments here. Two things:
- For having a pretty simple graphic style, the framerate on this game is TRASH, how did this get approved for release?
- It's permadeath????? I'm glad I found that out in like the first area of the game instead of later, but okay, some warning would have been nice...

(edit: ok, not permadeath)

My PC is moving towards retirement-home age and I still didn't have any framerate problems.

I have peaked as a player, this is probably one of my biggest achievements. Took me actually years to do it because I'd abandon the game for a few months and come back to it. Amazing game, feels so deep yet it can be speedran in 6 minutes in theory.

I didn't have any performance issues, either, there must be something janky with your particular setup.

And yeah, only sort of on the permadeath there. Dying is a core gameplay mechanic lol
