i dont really know where to put this, but since i bought the game on steam i guess here?

there's a fairly big Age of Empires 2 tournament this weekend starting today called Hidden Cup2. It's being cast on T90Official twitch channel. pretty cool format, best 16 players in the world, all on anonymous accounts so that they dont know who they are playing and we dont either. prizepool is like 10grand

definitely not.. lol i dont even play anymore other than vs the computer. i just really enjoy esports. and i think this game lends itself well to esports, like a less complicated and more drawn out sc2.

i think i capped out sneaking into the top100 players in age of empires rise of rome in like 1999, though..

Lots of replayability per level to try to get all 5 stars (under a certain time limit + two other conditions), which is usually too hard on your first try until you play it and get a sense of what your ideal supply chain should look like.

The formula has changed a little - now each map starts with a couple cities that supply workers and want certain products, and you generate those products by sending workers to factories, which make products (some of which are intermediate, i.e. iron ore to supply to another factory that turns them into steel ingots) to send back to other factories/cities. It's more interesting than the first game, which was just "send this train to this other station", as it requires you to plan out the order you're going to build things.

I think 1.0 just dropped. There's 50 levels now (previously had 30 in early access).

Anyone else play American trucker or EST2?

I’m ashamed to like these dumb games as much as I do.

Her Story (plus 3 others) are free games for April on Twitch Prime. For those who don't already know it: It's an original game concept/interactive movie. You are shown short video clips and you have to piece together what happened. It only takes a few hours to complete and I enjoyed it.

Yeah it’s really neat, everyone should try it since it doesn’t take long to complete

It also costs $4 on iOS, not much more on Steam iirc, and goes on sale frequently. Not one freebie to lament missing.

For those keeping score, Transistor is free for the next 2 weeks on Epic.

I played the iOS version a ton back in the day. I guess I feel that it's a game I played, enjoyed but really I've moved on.

Exciting 2008 game which was dirt cheap many times before. And I uninstalled it after 30 minutes.

I guess it's all downhill from here, can't expect epic to giveway subnautica/witness level games.
Promotion gets expensive.
I'm really happy with all the free games so far since I wanted most of them (sub/witness/ax verge and transistor, had slime rancher already).
I don't plan to buy stuff there but more cause I'm a cheapo and have bought <10 games at release price on PC.
And also cause my backlog is insane and growing faster than I can play with just the freebies all around the web (also a result of building a big collection back in the old steam sales days).

Picked up Forager.

It's a pretty clever combination of a lot of different rather addictive genres.

There's gathering, construction, clickergame-stuff, automation, collection and other things just made to feed those parts of our brains that respond to all that stuff.

World of Goo is an all-time great game, but yeah, most people who would create Epic store accounts likely have it already. I'll still grab it for free just so I have another copy, just in case. Plus, I created an account for each of my kids so they can start a games library, since all of "our" games are on my accounts.

There is a demo here: https://hopfrog.itch.io/forager-demo . Let's you play up to level 10, which is pretty fast. You eventually hit a ceiling, though, because of the level cap.

I can see this being fun, but it got a little monotonous after hitting the cap in the demo. Screenshots make it look pretty interesting? I guess there is some 'real' combat later on in the game? It

Not sure what you mean with 'real combat', but it does seem to have a surprising amount of content once you get a bit into it. You get various weapons and upgrade your damage and armour/gear but so far combat is just hitting stuff until it dies without need for much strategy or finesse.

I'm about 14 hours in (a fair amount of that has been idling though) but as you buy new territory, there are new biomes, temples with (fairly basic) puzzles and various quests and stuff.

Not something I see myself playing for hundreds of hours, but I think most who enjoy these kinds of games would think it's worth the price.

The game compares itself to Zelda, Stardew Valley, Terreria, and Minecraft. I figured there would be something like a boss? since it gives you the option to upgrade weapons and whatever. I've gotten as far as the first different biome. The one puzzle was a good surprise, along with the treasures.

I'm trying to not give away too many spoilers.

I think I also saw that you can eventually start to automate stuff like mining and banks?

The demo is worth trying it out. $20 is probably worth it too.

EDIT: As a heads up, Forager was included in Dec. 2018's monthly humble bundle as an exclusive sneak peek. Not sure if it was the full game, but if so and anyone has an extra key....

Yea, it has mechanics from, and similarities to, all of those games though at a more (in most cases much more) shallow level than those games give. I guess you can throw in Factorio also, although on such a basic level that maybe it's best not to mention it at all (At least as far as I've gotten).

There are boss-fights at the end of some of the dungeons but so far I've only had one or two and they've been so easy I wouldn't really call them boss-fights as such. (Which suits me fine since I'm not a big fan of boss-fights).

There's automation yes - automation of mining and defense comes fairly early on, thankfully. Haven't found any automation of production yet, but I haven't dug deeply into the tree where I suspect that may be hiding.

Anyone tried Anno 1800? I haven't played any of the previous games. Seems interesting. I used to like LOTR:BFME and this seems sort of like that? Less about battles, more about city planning I guess? Although it seems like I should maybe wait until Total War 3 Kingdoms which comes out in a month.
