I got spacemarine (base game) on sale after the expansion and the queue times for 10v10 were ridiculous. Was really sad cause I think the expansion people had different maps and the queues were separate, so it was basically single player or bust. Big disappointment for me.

I thought his Witcher 3 review was hilarious. I wasn't bothered by the things he was, and like most of his viewers I'm sure I take his opinions with a grain of salt. Still, he's the first place I look now even over Twitch streams to find out about a new game.
He did about 3 why my W3 opinion was right videos.

That is where the comedy is. I watch his videos for the comedy, his general take on games is bad/off and highly highly idiosyncratic to his own tastes, which I think is a bad trait in a reviewer.

I am an old btw.

My SSD broke two days ago (my second one broken in 7 years) and while I can live with lost progress for example Super Mario Galaxy played on Dolphin I have hard accepting 20 hours of lost progress in Dark Souls 3. No cloud saves for some reason. It's 2018 come on. I knew Bandai Namco are **** but now I hate them. Besides I also struggle continuing beating it despite being a Souls fan and 100%ing DS1 etc. because it bores me more than even DS2.

My second reason for hating them is how horrible ds merchandise in their store is. They seem so disconnected with all the ****ty memes there.

I also had some hints that it's about to break so you could blame me but I've had too much **** recently irl so assumed most of the stuff would be there. Rocket League, The Witness and Enter the Gungeon didn't let me down.

Rant over. Sorry.

This game is excellent. It’s like Symphony of the Night with better combat/controls and Dark Souls mechanics/difficulty.

Shadow tactics alone should make that bundle worth it. Been waiting for a good opportunity to pick it up.

Overwatch as the early unlock in the new monthly:

https://www.humblebundle.com/monthly

Fairly tempting but I remember playing it for an hour on some free weekend and thinking 'I don't get it, this seems fun but also pointless?'. Should I give it a shot anyway? Anybody else felt the way I did? It is fairly suitable for a dad right? The games are fairly short?

Man, this is a huge barrier for me with most modern, popular multiplayer games. Finally broke the cycle with Rocket League this year, but yeah I don't see the appeal of Overwatch, Warframe, Fortnite, DOTA, Destiny, etc.

You could but they are quite different games. Warframe has something of a story and the gameplay is a third person action game but it’s a massive grindfest; Overwatch seems more satisfying for short play sessions but more “pointless” overall. I played Warframe for a bit but realized I couldn’t keep up with the grind. I’ve tried overwatch when it was free but the multiplayer only aspect doesn’t appeal to me.

That said I’m currently playing my free Destiny 2 from PS+ and quite enjoying it so far. The late game content and pricey expansions might be a little much but the gameplay in the campaign is satisfying as heck. Sometimes you just want a little FPS action.

Rocket League is the best though.

I've played Warframe for about 30 hours before quitting. Not because I didn't like it because I didn't want to grind any more. It's great otherwise.

My main multiplayer game is Rocket League already, got almost 1k hours experience now, so I don't really need a new one. I find Rocket League barely pointless because the games are short and exciting and the feeling of improving all the way up to 1k hours is great. I can see myself continuing for another 1k hours even though there were a few times I was close to quitting.

Just wondering sometimes why these seemingly great popular games don't seem to appeal to me and if I did dedicate enough time before deciding it's not worth it for me. Rocket League gives you all you need to know about it in the first hour or so while Overwatch I might misjudge after playing just 3 games.

All games are pointless, really. Or maybe more accurately, the point of a game is to have fun. You don't have to accomplish anything.

And yes, Overwatch games are fairly short. I'm a dad and tend to play at night when everyone is in bed. Because I have an old dog that needs to go out often, I haven't played "competitive" mode in probably a year or so because there are penalties for quitting mid-game. But I have fun in the other modes. Can play a game for 10-15 minutes and be done (though I usually play more than one game).

The games are fairly quick, but there isn't much substance to it. Blizzard games are designed to be a grind. Every single one of them. Overwatch has some seasonal events, but it's still just a grind for lootboxes and skins behind the surface.

I got into the game after a free weekend back around when it was first released and thought it was really fun. After awhile, the initial excitement goes away, though. I login every now and then to get free lootboxes. That's about it.

Anyone anticipating playing Disgaea 5 Complete? It was originally supposed to launch in May, but due to bugs, it was delayed until October.

They currently have a special discount down to $29.99, which will continue to be available until one week after launch and there will be a closed beta sometime this month.

I've only played the Disgaea 2 demo and thought it was interesting.

Overwatch is not a grind, it's fun by itself, the reward for playing is that you enjoyed yourself and maybe increased your SR. The loot is cosmetic. Warframe is a Borderlands/Destiny style first person action RPG.

Speaking of free stuff, though:
My review of the Battlefield V open beta is that I forgot my Origin login information and each of the two times I tried the "forgot my password" link it took like 45 minutes to send me the email with a reset link, by which time I had lost interest and moved on to something else. EA is so ****ing bad at this.

Warframe is third person FWIW. What really got me with that game is that you basically have grind for every resource to build a new weapon, then you’re supposed to use the weapon until level 30 even if you hate it because it’s taking up a spot in your inventory and it’s bad value to dump it before maxing it out. You could just max stuff you like and only use that but then you’d stop gaining mastery ranks for your character (levels), which would severely limit your options for progression. The loot drops are mainly just more mods for your weapons, which also need to be leveled up...

It’s a great game but afaict the grind is outrageous and I much prefer the frequent gratification of new weapons and armor in Destiny, though there is something to be said about the reward in searching for resources to finally get some bomb weapon you’ve been eyeing in Warframe. Just hope that you don’t hate it once you finally get it!

Just started Shadows: Awakening. Not hugely impressed by the quests so far, but the game is fun, and the mechanic of changing between worlds is interesting.

Matthew Brown of Hexcells/Crosscells fame released a new "game" called Alchemia, it's just a book that you can turn the pages back and forwards on, a fictional book on alchemy that has to be deciphered page by page for some unknown end. There's no interaction other than turning the pages, and you have to use the internet to solve the puzzles. Presumably this all culminates in some secret message or an external website by the author, there doesn't appear to be any form of user input to the game.

I'm pretty well read with a liberal arts degree, can read Latin and parse my way through Greek, and have a decent background in cryptography, and I'm completely lost. So far there's literally no help on the internet, but it just came out a few days ago. It's only $2, but this seems like a complete pet project that is going to be impenetrable to most people. I might bounce my head against it a bit, but I'm happy to donate $2 if it keeps him going long enough to make another puzzle game
