I think Cuphead is the only Steam game I've paid full price for. For most games, I wait a long time. Cuphead's $20 release point made it easy. I didn't feel the need to wait a year to save a couple bucks and I wanted to reward the developers. The game did not disappoint.

have ya'll seen the early gameplay release for Frostpunk? It looks like a fresh/modern take on your typical build and farm community building game (with environmental elements constantly changing and making the gameplay difficult.)

full release is on the 24th but some Twitch streamers got early/limited access. worth checking out if you like the genre

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire comes out in a few weeks, and it supposedly significantly larger than the first. Can't wait!

Any fans want to give me a hand with this?

Not sure who thought it would be good idea to make the game larger than 1st. Even that one felt too large. (Tyranny, on the other hand, had pretty good size and length.)

It's been discussed already that it's a hopefully dying trend of hours played and size of the world in games being selling points. No matter how fun those are.

I loved Pillars of Eternity and am excited that the next one is coming out soon. Since it was delayed for a month or so, I played Baldur's gate 2 instead. That is a game that is way too long; Pillars of Eternity isn't really imo.

I think you can beat PoE in 12 hours if you want. I loved the game but thought the combat was awful. I hope it's been improved on significantly.

I was enjoying POE but the first DLC really really killed it for me.

It was so trigger mob, kill mob, move to next mob, repeat.

Did enjoy the plot and world building in POE tho. Had some great moments and maybe I can return to it and complete at some point.

Also along with something being off in the combat, the ridiculous amount of abilities, I found loot and items disappointing.

POE2 is still something I will get pretty close to day 1 if reviews are good tho.

I liked the loot actually. I thought it was pretty cool that the ultimate sword of badassery is just a slightly better sword etc

I really disliked the loot in PoE. Everything felt generic and overtly complicated at the same time and it was a lot of work to figure out if it was an upgrade or not. In Baldur's Gate the legendaries felt legendary.

I've tried to to look too much into it, but I think it's going to be a bit more open world than the first one and Tyranny were.

I know you have a ship which you can upgrade and stuff, which I like the sound of.

Why is it hoped that size of world is no longer a selling point?

because it's not a valuable feature when your game aims to provide hundreds of hours of stuff to do and gargantuan world, it's an empty feature a lot of the time

That's a good point. Scale without purpose quickly becomes a chore, especially in cases where the map is blatantly the same zone copy/pasted over and over.

debating on whether to get Frostpunk or Battletech this week. They both look good, just need to decide if I'm more in the mood for a city builder, or an xcom clone.

I'd go with Frostpunk, and wait for Phoenix Point to get my Xcom fix.

Phoenix Point does look amazing too. but went with Battletech because I'm not quite sure about the replayability of FrostPunk.

I played the 1st couple of Battletech missions this afternoon and am really enjoying it so far.

Stationeers is awesome, it's in early access from the guy that made DayZ, which kept me away for a bit but some streamers I follow sold me on it. It's like Factorio mashed with Minecraft and KSP. You get plopped on the Moon, Mars or an asteroid in space with just a spacesuit and a few items to mine and build with. I'm not sure what the point is other to build a self-maintaining base with a working atmosphere, but that involves a pretty complicated chain of tasks. The game simulates electricity and gas in a simplified but pretty detailed manner, so you spend most of your time managing wiring and power flow, and filtering gasses and moving them around at various temps and pressures.

Here's a good example of what you can do:

EDIT: forgot to mention, I haven't run in to any bugs in 20 hours of play, and there's more than enough stuff to do that it's worth the money now even if this goes the way of DayZ. And I just realized the only games I've ever bought in early access are Minecraft (well, back when Notch sold it directly via email and paypal for like $5), KSP, Factorio and Crypt of the Necrodancer, so I'm batting pretty good.

I got about 2-3 hours in of Battletech last night. I'm not sure what to make of it yet. I could see it getting very deep and being very good. I could also see it getting repetitive. The tactical layer seems reasonably different than Xcom. Xcom is about cover, not getting hit, and flanking shots. This is quite a bit different. A BattleMech obv does not have cover. Its more about keeping mobile, flanking (but different than Xcom), not letting an enemy get any shots at your weak spots. You will get hit in BattleTech, and you have the armor and structure to take the hits.

Yeah I went with Frostpunk and I think there's a real problem with replayability. I beat the game on normal difficulty, it was a ton of fun but I don't see how slightly slightly changing the resource mix of your crater or the location of scouting spots would change anything.

It was also very, very easy.

If you like 3D platforms like Banjo-Kazooie and Mario, I highly recommend A Hat in Time. It is even moddable, so there are a ton of user-made levels.

It is on sale right now for $20.99.

So I stumbled across some reviews of Warframe, which were face meltingly good, to the extent that there is a significant number of loltubers with reasonable page views are all basically litterally calling this game the GOAT.

So coz its free, I tried it out, and yea this is an amazing deep massively full of content game that is totally free and is basically mindblowingly good. There are obviously micro transactions, but 99% of everything in the game can be grinded for free, and the great thing is the grind loop is really not that grindy because the game play is so solid.

Highly recommend checking this out. Will need to watch some lol tubes to get the most out of it because the game is shockingly bad at walking you through some basic concepts.
