Incoming Game of the year.



The first review out gives it a perfect 10 and says:

I didn't pre-order a Switch so I am very interested in the Wii U vs. Switch info.

i'll probably never get to play it because I'll never buy that console. :/

Same here, maybe when it hits emulators 10 years from now or whatever.

I've been watching some early gameplay and it looks amazing. Pretty jelly I'll miss out.

Damn, I was about to get a pro... idk what to do. Zeldas my favorite game, but Nintendo games in general dont really do it for me.

Nintendo has quite a lot riding on this Zelda title.

I've played every console Zelda game and most of the handheld ones. The last Zelda game (Skyward Sword) was probably the worst console Zelda game since Zelda II. It wasn't bad or anything, but completely underwhelming and forgettable in almost every way.

They've been mad hyping BotW up for years now, it had better deliver. It simply being really good won't even cut it.

Yeah the Wii U emulator is progressing very well. I'm sure BOTW will be a priority for the devs if you want to go that route.

You really thought Skyward Sword was that bad? I enjoyed it myself.

I'm completely on board for BotW, preordered it and the Switch basically just for this game. I'm all set to fangirl out.

I didnt even realize the wii U emulators were even playable right now. I got a pretty powerful gaming laptop(gtx970 i7) to run it. I'm sure it wont be as good as playing on the switch but at least I can play this game in some form.

I think one review gave it only its 19th 10 in the history of its publications. I don't take much from reviews usually but at least that is promising. Too bad I'm having surgery on my right thumb 3/3 and won't be able to play for probably a month after release fml.

I didn't think it was bad, I enjoyed my playthrough of it as well. I just thought it paled compared to most other Zelda games which are usually excellent.

Not a fan of motion controls, but even putting that completely aside, the way they did the overworld felt really disjointed to me and pretty tiny. There was very little exploration and side quests and stuff, made the game feel much more linear than other Zelda games (which are often quite linear but you can lose yourself doing side stuff so it doesn't feel like it).

It also felt shorter and easier to me than other Zelda games (probably due to lack of overworld and side stuff) and there was just lots of weird quirks (like those stupid items prompts that reset every time you restart the game).

So no, not a bad game or anything, just felt like a step down from the other Zelda titles.

The open world concept of BotW should hopefully rectify the biggest complaint and put the exploration and the scope of the world back.

Yeah I figured it was but wasn't 100% sure. I saw the list of the other games they gave a 10 to and agree with half of them but not all. I try not to put too much stock in it, but it is nice to see a normally harsher critic give it that much praise. At least on their list was Half Life 2 RIP to that series

I wish nintendo would just go for the sega model and abandon consoles and release cross platform games.

Buy a Wii U from someone buying a switch?

Retailers (and Nintendo) are sitting on this pile of Wii U's that nobody is buying. At some point, probably soon, I'd imagine Wii U's are going to be priced to move.

They are probably purposefully holding off on that until this Zelda game has been out awhile.

Fair enough. I know people loved Wind Waker but I had a massive problem with the ocean travel that really hurt the experience for me, so it depends on how much certain issues bother you.

I know they rectified this in the remaster, thankfully. I may have only played that game once as is, the ocean travel irritated me so much.

BotW just looks outstanding, though, and the early reviews have me stoked to play it.

Yes I agree completely about WW, the ocean got very tedious.

If you're gonna pick up a cheap Wii U for BotW then there are so many other games you can probably pick up cheap as well. It really is a good system for Nintendo titles.

This is what worries me though, and it's one of the criticisms I've seen in a review so far: the game is so big that it borders on empty at times.
