Anyone that doesn't think "live" game play at E3 isn't scripted is naive.

They all do it and I'm OK with it since we get to see some sort of game play.

I don’t really care what it looks like I just want to play it now!! I could see the footage being faked but not the graphics. But whatever.

Having seen the trailer, the panel and discussions with friends, I feel better now about the direction the story feels like it’s going, or at least could go. I’d rather not do too many back and forths like UC4, though I think it’d be done better here. Regardless, I don’t really want anything to do with the characters shown in trailer #2.

Most of the world is live with this but we have about 90 minutes until it’s live for the US!! I have stayed pretty much completely spoiler free this entire time! It was not easy!!

I haven’t been this excited for something since Breaking Band’s last 8 episodes!!

Debating if getting this is worth it - the disconnect between user and critics reviews on Metacritic are astonishing...

I’m only a few hours in and I can safely safe it won’t be getting a negative review from me. It’s already great and it looks gorgeous!

The game is stunning!! In a few ways.....

I’m about 7 hours in and loving it. The section when you first get to Seattle, where you have a map and whatnot, is awesome in how it’s almost open-world. I’m sure it’s the only part like that in the entire game, but I’d love an entire game like that. That same kind of thing was my favorite part of Lost Legacy as well.

As for the reviews, the entire review cycle is going to be a tug of war. I’m nowhere close to knowing what mine will be, but I can see both sides with the limited info I have so far.

I'm only about 3 hours in and it is slower than the first game in that there are more emotional cut scenes, etc.

The initial part of the story is fine for me and I don't have a problem with the direction it is going so far. I thought it was really cool that we actually got to play as one of the "villains" early on in the game and get a feel for their emotion. Naughty Dog did a good job of sort of reminding us that while we may view Joel and Eli's group as the "good guys" that there are many others out there fighting and surviving and some may or may not have been effected from the past body count by Joel/Eli.

I agree that it’s a little slow to start, but when it ramps up, my goodness!

Random, but I can’t help it every time I see it. When you play the guitar, the fingers look amazing. It’s a small detail, but those little bits of gameplay are a lot of fun and add a decent bit to the overall story.

I just finished chapter 3 and I’m 10.5 hours in by the way. Unless the last 8 chapters are much shorter, I don’t see how I finish it in 25 hours, which is the average length for the reviewers that played it early.

watched most of it from streamers view and i must say...

visually it looks amazing, the attention to detail in combat is dope.

the writing seems kinda bad, plot and story, really sketchy/bad ending wont spoil but like jesus.

All done!! I loved it!! Absolutely loved it!!

It took some guts to do what ND did in this game and I think it worked on a lot of levels. Far more then I could type out.

Graphics, sound and gameplay wise, phenomenal!! Absolutely gorgeous front to back! And I understand a lot of people’s issues with the ending but it worked very well for me. They really only made 1 very stupid decision, but they committed to it and rode it out wonderfully.

As for the “SJW woke garbage” nope. Not at all. I’m leaning more towards most of the player reviews are from people who didn’t play the game and let the leaks and others opinions dictate their hatred. Easy to think considering how many were left only hours after the game released. And even if you hated the game, and I completely understand that POV, anything below a 5 or 6 out of 10 seems asinine. Did they not look or listen at all? The technical side alone is worthy of a perfect score.

Hi DC11GTR and others,

I'm an avid gamer although I mostly stick to quick sporty type oriented games these days as I have a family and two kids. That being said the Last of Us One was my favorite game that I've ever played and completed in my entire life, I'm 40 now. The only reason I purchased it originally was because the person at the store I bought my Playstation 4 at many years back was running a promotion on the game and swore by it's merit, so I went ahead and made it my initial buy with my PS4. Absolutely loved the game and just recently played it through it's entirety again as I had per-ordered "The Last of Us 2".

I'm not going to give spoilers and I've only recently gotten to "Seattle Day1" Abby Story but these are the things I like about #2 so far and make it stand out and a few of the funny and or negative aspects of the story so far IMO

Positives:

1) obviously they bring back alot of the story from #1 and if you haven't played #1 in awhile some of it may be missed in playing #2.

-Joel mentioning he wanted to be a musician at a point in #1
-comic books with Elie
-Joel's favorite movie series (basically Die Hard, incarnate)
-Elie's lack of ability to swim, etc

I've probably missed some and obviously they recount the important events of number one but some of these things are much appreciated and show homage to the first game in a way that only people that truly remember #1 will appreciate in #2.

2) this is the first game that I've played that I remember that humanizes the villains in the game. In just about every battle you encounter your opponents are calling out their teammates by name. Sure some of them look similar to other people in the body count but I think Naughty Dogg really went out of the way to show that the people you are taking down aren't just a statistic but actually have people that they care about and that care about them and they have their own agenda in the game.

So far the story has been fine for me although I laughed the first time Jessie and Ellie went out on a mission and Jessie asked Elie to boost him up the wall. I was like, wtf, shouldn't you be doing that for Elie. I'm pretty sure Joel always boosted up the women in the first game.

Also, I guess being stuck in Seattle the whole time mostly has been a worse experience than the first game. Although it's a great atmosphere one of the most exciting things about the first game was seeing the different parts of country in the game being explored as Joel and Elie traveled across the country.

Just rambling now, I'll give a final review when I'm done without trying to spoil anything. Cheers.

Also, just to add one thing about them humanizing not only the wolves group in the story but also the dogs. I've been absolutely destroyed by the dogs so far in this game and although I'm getting better at not rushing and drawing the dogs out with bottles, etc and even though I love dogs in real life and have two of my own I caught myself saying "f' you" dog" multiple times in this game on my journey.

Then you get into the Abby side of the story and see her throwing a baseball for one of the dogs. Just classic, imo. Really like that they added this two sided element to the game so far.

yeah id say its about a 6/10. most of that comes from graphics. the story is so abysmal compared to the 1st one. i mean sure its a tough bar to reach but cmon they had like 6-7 years to deliver and they didnt.

the 1st one was so rich and felt so raw and real RIGHT from the get-go, joel was such a good ****ing character.

And this one is a basic revenge story. revenge bad. dont do revenge. the characters had little to no backstory. everything they did felt so meaningless.

abby barely reacts to a few of the characters deaths? manny dead? lets just hop over the barrier and keep on truckin'

just so meh. there were a few good/enjoyable parts to witness but thats why i gave it a 6/10. the ending was so bad too, tilts me hard. the SJW bs didnt even factor in for me, not even 1 millisecond. this is just a pure review of writing/story/backstory/plot.

The more I think about it, the more I think I like this one more than the first. I certainly didn’t “enjoy” it as much as first in regards to the story, but I liked it more as an experience. The gameplay was just phenomenal!! And in New Game+, I can go at it all differently and I can’t wait!! I will be skipping most cut scenes though. Some are just too much to handle!!

Platinum’d it! Actually a few days ago. Took about 6 days to do it all.

This game is an easy 10/10 for me. There is a podcast with Ashley, Troy and Neil that was exceptional. It really should be watched by everyone who played it. Pretty much every “questionable decision” is well discussed. I had very little issues after I finished and now I really don’t have any. They put in the thought and the work for every single aspect.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the 4 (kind of 7) year journey it took to finally be finished with the entire experience and it makes it that much more special. There’s the first game, all of the insane amount of hours playing the multiplayer, the announcement of Part 2, all the speculation when there was no info, all the speculation when we knew a little, the utter heartbreak when they said the multiplayer wouldn’t come with launch, the spoilers and the work it took to avoid those, worrying about whether I’d even like the game and finally getting to play it. Not to mention the delays and the thought that it might’ve been months with the C19 stuff. It’s really quite something.

Now there is just the Tlou2 Online, or multiplayer or whatever they’re going to call it. I absolutely cannot wait for that!!! I’m guessing we’ll see something at the State of Play in August and it’ll launch on PS5.

Did you have to replay the full game to get all the weapons upgrades? I still need to go chapter by chapter and get any collectibles I missed, but if I’m able to upgrade at the same time, that would be ideal.

abby is a soldier of war and was in he middle of a battle. She has probably seen numerous people die in the war. Maybe after the battles she could have some time to reflect on the loss but in this game I think she treats the deaths much like a soldier would in a war zone and realizes that if she stops to ponder the loss she might be the next to die. She handles Isaac's death and the little girl's death in much of the same way.

There are also the reviews I've read that label abby as a psychopath which I don't agree with but in that case a psychopath might react to those deaths in much the same way.

Overall I think it's just more of the fact that she is a soldier and in the moment realizes that they must press on to get out of the mess they are in. We don't really know how she copes with the losses after the fact as those cut scenes are not really shown in the game.

I finished the game and think it was a really good game. Only a few negatives....

1) I didn't mind playing as Abby and I also don't agree with the reviews that labeled her as a psychopath and wish their was a conclusion with her death in the end. If anything I was more sympathetic to her character in the end than I was to Elly's character. That said though I did find myself wanting to move along a bit to get to the confrontation between her and Elly. The whole game played a bit slow for my liking compared to the first. Maybe they could have done it better by intertwining the two stories rather than playing one and then the other. That might have worked better for me.

2) At first I didn't like the end. I thought Tommy was dead already and would have been Ok with Ellie and Dina and baby ending. After all Abby did have Elly dead to rights twice, along with sparing Dina once, and allowed Elly to live both times. I didn't like the direction Elly took at going back out to get revenge on Abby. Today though, after finishing the game yesterday, I've had a change of heart. If we look at it from a perspective that Elly is extremely messed up in the head from what has happened in her life up to this point it makes sense that she is still seeking some sort of conclusion in her mind.

That is what makes no sense to me about many of the reviews. They are sympathetic to Elly and treat Abby like the monster. If anything to me it feels as if Elly is a monster inside now. She feels many people died unnecessarily to protect her gift of immunity and in the end her gift meant nothing. Hate and sadness are built up inside her, much to the same are they were in Abby, but in the case of Elly I just felt like she couldn't let it go where as Abby seemed to be starting to let it go throughout the story. Elly still is the one that was lost in life and the ending makes a bit more sense to me in that way. I think she finally found a bit a consciousness during her final battle with Abby.

You pretty much do for the upgrades. I would’ve played through it again anyway, but New Game + is awesome regardless. You can get all of Abby’s upgrade fairly early but you still have to get to that section, so you’re more or less playing it again anyways. It’s a very easy platinum!

Cneuy3,

I used to think the fact that Ellie went back was the “dumb decision” I mentioned above but I completely changed my mind after thinking about it awhile. And I am fully willing to admit her not seeing it through at the very end was selfish for me to want that as well. I was damn near screaming “stop it Ellie during the last fight.

I would say a large portion of the bad reviews were from people who hadn’t played the game yet. That already keeps the overall low. They were going by the leaks and hated it before it was out. I have friends who loved it, some who didn’t like it, and some who didn’t enjoy it at all but appreciated what they were trying to do. And even the lowest score from them was a 6. The score is slowly moving up a bit here and there but it’s pretty doomed because of the review bombs. I usually wouldn’t care but this game deserves better then that!
