Re: GTA V - releases September 17

I spent literally 3 hours just driving around exploring last night and I've uncovered maybe 1/4 of the map. Insane.

Re: GTA V - releases September 17

seems really difficult to find food.

i had michael at half health yesterday so i gave my girlfriend the controller to drive around and look for something to eat. she played for like half an hour, with me watching for most of that time, but no restaurants, burgershots or even street vendors.

we figured the movie theater might at least have some popcorn, but no. the black & white european art piece that was playing was hilarious though.

later i've found that some gas stations and ammunations have soda machines, but that's it.

pretty much the only gripe i have with the game so far. having an amazing time.

Especially when you accidentally drive into the airport trying to lose them and take an hour to find your way out lol

Explore imo. I played for more then 5 hours yesterday mainly just doing missions and while I have unlocked Trevor I still haven't unlocked the ability to switch between the 3 chars freely.

Skyrim = 16 square miles, GTA V = 50 square miles

Skyrim seems bigger than it is because the fastest mode of transportation is a horse and it's more mountainous/harder to get around.

Re: GTA V - releases September 17

Played for about 4.5 hours last night after the kids went to bed. Amazing so far, even if I only managed to complete 4 missions (I think) and haven't even unlocked Trevor. Ended up spending over an hour at the shooting range. Also rode a roller coaster. Just so much content, it's unbelievable.

I haven't played many games in the last 6-8 years, so I'm pretty horrible, but it's still incredibly enjoyable. Hope I get better at escaping cops. Definitely worth the PS3 purchase.

The size of this world is amazing. Anyone else find the missions harder than before?

Somewhat, but also way more fun/exciting/interesting. The first heist mission is so good.

I had been playing so long yesterday I ended up with a parachute somehow. How I did I acquire this? I honestly don't remember. Stealing the plane from the airport does not give you a parachute. Sucks you can only use it once. I tried picking it back up after he took it off but you can't, haha

Not really liking the 'special ability' slow motion. Feels a bit Burnout.

I lost the 3 star pretty quickly with the early mission with Michael's wife and the police car.

The cops are certainly more effective than in IV. The key to avoiding police is not driving as fast as you can, rather be as directional shifting as you can. Lets say you got a 3star wanted level in the downtown area. If you try to speed away more cop cars will spawn on your map and you flee. You will see them on the GPS and also see their scan scope next to the icon light on your radar.

The key is to keep taking turns and changing directions on the cops. I was in the above situation being chased, new cop car spawned ahead of me and was looking to cut me off (typical grid streets). I ended up making a right, then left, then left, to where I was almost behind the cop car but still a distance. His view sight was pointed the other way, so he didnt see me so my stars were still gray (not detected). I kept changing streets over, lost all cop cars, think I hid in a garage or under a bridge. Waited it out, all stars dropped.

So this strategy won't work for everyone, but that is the key to outrunning the cops, keep navigating different streets. Turn, turns and more turns. Getting on an open freeway or big street doesnt due much good because new cop cars will spawn ahead of you and pick you up again on the radar. Just driving fast wont work unless you are in an area they just cant respawn to.

Also on another note, I can't shoot worth a damn while driving. The game says you should be able to aim then pull the other button worth a trigger, but as soon as I press L1, he starts firing instantly.

You can obtain a parachute when you take the gondola up to the top of the mountain on the north side of the map.
