Rockstar have talked about doing their one big game a year thing now and have basically claimed the summer as their own each year, RDR, then LA Noire, next year Max Payne so it makes sense that GTA will be the year after. I hope im wrong but i dont see them going for a xmas relase for GTA when they can avoid all the other big games and still sell loads by releasing a game every summer. The only thing that might hint at xmas 2012 is thatt Max Payne is coming out March instead of May

I hope this summer, but I doubt it, unfortunately. Diablo 3 is the only game coming out anytime soon that I could see rivaling the sales of a new GTA game, and regardless of release date, it'll still sell like a mother f*cker. Max Payne is theirs, so they wouldn't want to hurt sales of that. I kinda wish the trailer didn't come out so I won't dwell on it when I get bored.

umm no mw3 will sell more than any game! In fact mw2 already broke gta sales records for day 1 and week 1 .

I missed that one. I don't like the COD series, so I forgot about those. But what I meant was that no game coming out will hurt GTA's sales. But GTA coming out near the time that MP3 comes out could hurt those sales and they're from the same company.

I can't wait for this game, finally returning to its roots! GTA4 was such a disappointment, it was the only video game I ever fell asleep to, similar to how the English Patient is the only movie I ever fell asleep to.

I'm going to give GTA4 another try now because I know it should be a good game, but chances are I will fall into a coma instead. See you all in a couple weeks!

Also, expect an October/November 2012 release. It won't be any sooner that. Mark my words!

October or November was what I was thinking as well. Not sure if video game fans can accept trailers two years before a game comes out anymore.

How long before they release more information about the game after the initial trailer? Release date is probably not even close to being known, but they obviously know the other details. I'm guessing it's quite awhile before Trailer #2 or a press release of some sort.
Trailer #2 was 3 months later, #3 was 5 months after that. More general information I'm not sure about, but I'd guess there will be an exclusive article in Game Informer or online within a few months tops.

Looks like it is just Los Santos (L.A.) with surrounding countryside.

some possibly interesting speculation on a May 24, 2012 release:

At the 54 second mark, it says 2405 on the curb.

The co-creator of the GTA series, Dan Houser, was born on May 24th, 1974.

The song used in the trailer, Ogden's Nut Gone Flake, was released on May 24th, 1968.

Could just be them ****ing with everyone though, I know I would if I was in charge of making trailers.

It would be pretty tough to do San Fran and Vegas with as much detail as they dd NY in 4. The country missions were the best missions in SA anyway IMO.

If they could do the bay area for GTA6 then that would be pretty sweet.

nope, best bet is to buy it for pc and use a 360 controller or gamepad...most fairly new pc's should be able to run it easily and it'll look better than it did on the ps2

Didn't know anything about a new GTA, just saw the trailer pop up on XBL last night. looks amazing!

Like some in this thread, I loved VC, 3, especially SA, didn't finish IV.

I love taxi missions, fire engine missions, police, boat test, flying tests all that. SA was amazing fun once I'd got the harrier lol.

yeah agree, actually the vegas stuff was sort of meh for me. LS with San Fiero + countryside was the best part of SA imo. So, no biggie for me. I just hope it has more variety than the urban jungle that is/was Liberty City.

May release would be epic

If they chose to do LV, then I'd like it to be either mostly LV or all LV. Could be a great city to have a game take place in, mostly because of the detail in the city.

Random wishlist.

-Las Vegas please, L.A is obviously confirmed and I can take or leave San Fran but L.V would be super duper sweet, even if it is just the strip.

-Same driving as GTA4, pretty much my favourite driving experience in any game. Even if you were a complete driving fish you could still find cars that were much more loose (dont know the technical word, sorry) then the others.

-An in car view would be very nice.

-Much slicker on foot animations then with 4, better hand to hand combat obviously.

-Some gimmicky vehicles. In 4 there are no interactive vehicles, by that I mean nothing does anything other than drive around and maybe flash some light. I would like helicopters with magnets/grappling hooks to attach stuff to, push bikes, skateboards, jet skis, whatever, just make it interesting!

-Same slow paced story as with GTA4, that does not mean boring ass missions (although I quite liked the missions in 4) just a well paced games.

-Parachutes from the start.

-Optional first person view?

This was just linked to me and has apparently been doing the rounds around the internet. If this is true that means a September release. I'm not getting my hopes up though.

It's from some UK store, I don't know the source, it was just linked to me.

Making friends rage in freeroam by holding them down with water from the fire truck was one of my funniest experiences in GTA 4. I would love all those other vehicles you mentioned though.
