IGN hands-on.

It just keeps sounding more and more amazing. I think IGN is going to have exclusive content daily from now until launch.

Re: GTA V - releases September 17

I haven't read much about the game's improvements (other than some stuff about the driving and shooting elements).

What have they said about the sandbox aspect of GTA5? Is it much bigger?

I thought it was kind of wack in GTA4 that a lot of the interiors were single-room or you couldn't even go into most of them. I wanted to get into a shootout with the cops and barricade myself shoot-out style.

The hospital was really the only place you could do this in GTA4.

It's the size of GTA 4, RDR and San Andreas combined.

Jfc this is getting ridiculous lol. I wonder how many people aren't gonna bother getting a next gen on release because of this game, I know I'm gonna wait at least 6 months, maybe more

Be good if you can transfer cash to people as you wish, or even better set up an escrow, would be cool setting up some high stakes golf tourneys etc

Re: GTA V - releases September 17

this is a dumb question, but is there an official "game of the year" award from some organization (like the oscar for best picture) people are talking about when they say "this will be goty"? or is it like i think it is - just every review site has their own, and when people say something will be goty, then that means it will win more of those than any other game?

or is it just "this will be the game that i personally enjoy the most that came out this year"

Re: GTA V - releases September 17

i got gta3 the day it came out for ps2 in 2001, not knowing much about it or the series other than i read some stuff online the day before and thought "that sounds pretty funny". first time playing that is probably the most 'blown away' i've ever been by a game, and i've been regularly playing games for 25 years now.

bioshock infinite was a bit of a letdown for me only because i was so hyped about it for so long and watching the trailers and everything looked just incredible...then nothing from the trailers was in the game.

Yeah my friend was raving about GTA3 for a while before I picked up a PS2 with it bundled, I couldn't believe how they got away with the stuff in there. Only found out the other day that they originally had kids and elderly npcs in the game, only dropped them because 9/11 made them take a step back and think they might be going too far, slaughtering cops and hookers apparently was still a-ok though lol

idk, I would hope they learned a lesson from IV and realized that people don't want serious in a GTA game, they want fun.

(I fully expect to be disappointed)

Re: GTA V - releases September 17

^^ bioshock infinite was terrible. The biggest let down ever in console gaming

I'm really looking forward to gta though. And gta online looks immense but it may get boring quilckly I dunno. I hope not.

I have three ps4's on order so likelyhood is I will keep one and ditch the ps3 at the time.

There's no universally recognized GOTY award, it's just every different site. People probably mean something close to a "consensus" mainstream GOTY when they talk about it in that way.

I think there will be lots more fun, but they are definitely going to try to tell a serious, "meaningful" story. Sopranos seems like the best comparison at this point, both with story points and characters that we know of (middle-aged [ex] gangster trying to balance his family life and criminal life, sees a therapist), and in general tone. Sopranos had a lot of humor and fun, as opposed to say The Wire which does have that as well, but to a far lesser extent. The Wire being ultimately more downbeat and "realistic" or "gritty".

Hopefully it's like Red Dead Redemption. For me that's a top 2 GOAT, but the story was the worst part of it. GTA5 could be just as enjoyable or more so, even though the story parts may be eye-rollingly bad to those of us above a high school level of art appreciation.
