Speaking of that. Is anyone ITT hardcore enough that they actually used the physical map that comes inside the case with the GTA games? Or hung it on their wall or something? Lulz. I always open it up once when I initially get the game and then fold it back up and put it back in the case never to be touched again.

I may have used the maps for 3 and probably VC (and possibly the ones before that) because IIRC those games didn't have good in-game map systems.

do we know what artists are on the soundtrack yet?

prolly not since there likely would've been an awesome discussion about it.

I imagine we'll have the most varied soundtrack since San Andreas, although I imagine the music is weighted towards the noughties onwards. I would say the aim of this game is to reflect modern life well but it doesn't seem to have any other persistent themes unlike the previous games (immigrant life, gang life, miami/the 80s etc).

Theres a few been mentioned, from GTA wiki:

"The following songs were mentioned in previews of the game:

"Radar Love" - originally by Golden Earring (1973 - genre: hard rock)[2]
"Give It to Me Baby" - originally by Rick James (1981 - genre: R&B)[3]
"Glamorous" - Fergie feat. Ludacris (2007 - genre: R&B)
"I Like It" - Enrique Iglesias (2010 - genre: dance)
"Regulate" - Warren G feat. Nate Dogg (1994 - genre: hip-hop)

The following song was confirmed to be in the game by the artist himself:

"Love Sosa" - Chief Keef (2012 - genre: hip hop)[4]

The following songs have appeared in official trailers for GTA V:

"Ogden's Nut Gone Flake" - Small Faces (1968 - genre: psychedelic rock) - this song was heard in the first trailer.
"Skeletons" - Stevie Wonder (1986 - genre: R&B) - this song was heard in the second trailer.
"Radio Ga Ga" - Queen (1984 - genre: pop/rock) - heard in the Michael trailer.
"Hood Gone Love It" - Jay Rock (feat. Kendrick Lamar) (2011 - genre: contemporary hip-hop) - heard in the Franklin trailer.
"Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way" - Waylon Jennings (1975 - genre: country) - heard in the Trevor trailer."

Oh man Regulate, loved that track when I was a kid, can see myself doing a few drive bys on Ballas with that blasting fo sho. Radar Love too, great song for cruising through the wilderness

Definitely +1 for regulate. Almost makes you wonder why it wasn't in SA

The upside though was you'd find all the back alleys and other shortcuts, I found with IV I'd just blindly follow the GPS around. I read an article before from a guy who replayed IV with the GPS off and said it made the game much better, he had to learn the layout of the city, didn't know where enemies were or how many were left and so on.

****, I remember using taxi's a lot. Just put a waypoint on, get a taxi, and you're instantly there. I never really bothered driving places that much, lol.

ya i was slave to the gps route, but eventually you learn a large percent of the map even doing that.

in liberty city stories i never needed the hud map, but thats only because the world was so basic and (nearly?) identical to gta3.

So we gonna get a 2p2 crew going and punish children who shouldn't even have the game then? Been playing some more Free Roam lately while waiting, it's fun but better when you have others to fool around with.

Yea I was thinking about this recently when playing Sleeping Dogs. I don't know what the solution is, but eliminating the mini-map completely might not be a bad idea.

I don't know that I learned the cities in GTA3-VC all that much better though. It's difficult to get a handle on such a large virtual space.

VC map is pretty easy to know where everything is tho after not too long since it's basically just two strips.

You probably did but don't remember them now I'd say, the first maps were tiny compared to SA onwards. I remember playing SA for the first time and cruising around Los Santos for a bit, then opening the map and seeing how much of it was still hidden, was a moment.

I would be keep the map as it'll likely be too big to learn every route etc (and nothings stopping you from not setting a waypoint anyway), but turn off red dots for enemies. As the author of the article I read stated, gunfights could get repetitive when you knew exactly where they were and how many were left, doesn't look like that's gonna happen though.

Yeah GTA IV, Free Roam is the nuts. If you get ~8 or more of you together (plus weed lol) you can have amazing fun just coming up with dumb s*** to do and inventive ways of putting kids on tilt. Traffic is still pretty good, probably down to folks brushing up the GTA skills before V lands. Modders can be a problem though

GTAIV's soundtrack kinda sucked, though the commercials and talk radio were great. When LaD and TBoGT came out, it raised the quality by a ton.

ha, just tested it out and it was pretty fun. (deathmatch that is)

the free roam lacked action, had to snap quit that. i kept drilling a guy with the sniper rifle and he wasnt dying. his body would just shake, but he'd never die. was weird.

Yeah some of the Free Modes have friendly fire off so you can't kill or be killed, I quit those too, and like I said it's much more fun in a group. Or just hang around the airport, no shortage of action around there lol

I think I might have learned RDR and SA's maps better than the "smaller" maps of VC, 4 and 3. The open space with settlements or small cities in-between is easier to organize in my mind, for me at least, than denser cities.
