Re: GTA V Trailer - November 2nd, 2011

tbh if people dont like GTA4 thats fine. I can see why people would find it boring but i personally loved it because i preferred the realism, you can still do crazy stuff but it seems more fun when youre in the confines of a realistic setting. I played a couple of hours of Saints Row 2 and got bored because doing all this crazy **** just felt so hollow because the world and people in it didnt seem real.

The extreme hate for four is super hipster nerd reactions, Christ. Game was tons of fun to play, albeit with flaws. So many **** games get made, yet people complain about gta. Nothing makes you happy. I am snap buying this game no matter what.

I REALLY like that. Hopefully their stories differ enough to allow for many many play throughs. I liked that there were "multiple" endings for GTAIV, but an extra story would just be amazing.

I haven't seen much or any "extreme hate" and have no idea why hipsters would have any interest whatsoever in hating on Grand Theft Auto IV.

Obviously we don't all think that it was "tons of fun to play", and for us those flaws are not as easy to dismiss as they are for you. In many respects the game was a huge step backwards from its predecessors. As for "nothing" making me happy (assuming you mean in gaming), there's like the previous 5 games in the series plus the spiritual brother Red Dead Redemption and the majority of other games that I play.

I don't snap-buy any game but there is almost no doubt that I will pick it up when I can get it for cheap.

I don't remember, and I have my doubts because I remember much more spontaneous things happening in missions in previous games, but what's the difference? Has the window of opportunity on being allowed to criticize the series for that now closed?

The issue as I see it is that people like yourself criticize four and act as those previous games were perfect. Every single one has had flaws, some worse than fours. Terrible aiming systems, weird graphics at times, linear stories, plots that don't make sense, useless side missions. It's just with four that some of you were expecting perfection, which they have never delivered. I also really liked rdr and that had many of the same issues, but some cool things the others didn't have. Basically you come across as acting too cool for gta.

How is it you're not allowed to dislike this game unless you're a hater or a "super hipster nerd"?

IV was a tremendous disappointment to me and it has nothing to do with anything but the fact that it did not fulfil most of the things I love about the GTA-series, which is one of my favourite game series of all time.

I'm not saying it wasn't a good game on it's own - but it was not a good GTA-game.

People complain about all kinds of games, dude, it's not like GTA is the only game that gets criticism. lol at calling it super hipster nerd reactions.

What may have previously been minor quibbles in previous GTA games became more important in IV precisely because Rockstar started making these elements more of a focal point in IV. If you want to put the story front and center in the game, then you better make it good. If you want to try to make something that transcends the wildly popular and decidedly non-serious previous incarnations of your game by fusing video games with some aspects of film, and produce a game that, while still fun, takes itself entirely too seriously and is a pretty bad movie when judging that aspect of it, then you didn't make a fantastic game.

And the amount of hate will always be proportional to the amount of hype or perceived respect for a game. That isn't unique to GTA IV, the game is just unique in how astronomically large its hype:reality ratio is.

You don't even remember if IV had expert targeting, now you're suggesting you trust your memory of individual missions in games that preceded that by several years?

Of course the window hasn't closed, but framing it like IV was the first in the series to have strict linear sequences is inaccurate.

What is not serious about becoming the next Tony Montana or being a gang leader? I guess because there isn't an element to the Russian fresh off the boat theme that you can get all hyperbolic on like the 80's theme or cruising through the ghetto? What about characters like Brucie?

I really didn't see much different from previous games tbh. Rdr was similar, but better. Still had many of the same issues.

Basically I expect to like this a lot.

No, it's all about Lance Vance.

What I mean by "non-serious" is that the game didn't take itself seriously.

"Top 50 reasons why we love GTA"

Allmost all of them refer to a goofy, creative or crazy occurrence in GTA.
This is what GTA4 lacks the most imo. Humor was a core-concept of the series, but it did not came thru in 4. They tried to hard to make a realistic gangster game.... more drama, less comedy. I really hope GTA5 will bring some of the fun back.

If you look at the tecnical side of the game, they all could not shine,
but no one cared...

Re: GTA V Trailer - November 2nd, 2011

I hope they keep the free roam multiplayer for GTAV. GTA4's is one of the best multiplayer experiences around, even better in TBOGT.

Serious blockbuster movie **** would happen every 10 minutes, unscripted, and when gangs of players would form the game would become superb.

One particularly memorable moment was when my friend attached a sticky bomb to his car, flew up a ramp and suicide bombed this chopper that had been holding us down.

Another moment was when I sniped a helicopter pilot, causing the heli to land on one of the pilots buddys, smashing him up

Good times!

Re: GTA V Trailer - November 2nd, 2011

Massively excited for this game, I absolutely loooved GTA IV and TBOGT.

I have been playing GTA games since the very first one, which I played when I was probably like 9 or 10, but out of all of them, IV felt the most realistic in terms of the vibrant, living city. I think there was plenty of satire and general humour in it, only it was more creatively and subtly done than in its predecessors; a lot less ridiculous and slapstick. I think Rockstar took a gamble in the American market by doing that, but ultimately it paid off as there is only so long you can rely on ludicrous situations, characters and sh*t like jetpacks before the series starts to stagnate. I can see why some people don't like it (those that enjoy the series for crazy sh*t) but that's why Saints Row is there - all the absurd missions you can handle in a city as exciting and welcoming as type-2 herpes.

I think GTA V will just be the three cities from San Andreas better done, although I hope I'm wrong and they go somewhere entirely new. On the other hand, it would be interesting to play that area again without the inane missions which they have hopefully done away with for good (like flying around in a plane delivering drugs...) and with better car handling, which was just about perfect in GTA IV.

One thing I did miss in GTAIV was the level of customisation that you had in San Andreas, so I hope they include places to spray your car and that kind of thing, but even if not I have no doubt that this game is going to be fantastic.

What sharpyetblunt said.

So much more rewarding to pull of an awesome drift or sharp turn in a race, weave between traffic etc.

Also, I'm sure I have had this exact same debate against the same people whilst agreeing with the same person in at least 17 other threads.
