Re: GTA V - releases September 17

It's probably just me and maybe I don't know what online play has to offer, but so far all I've seen is people running around in circles and driving forward and backwards on ATVs, maybe a helicopter crash here and there. I haven't seen anything that seemed to be appealing for online play.

I'm having an absolute blast with single player, having to force myself to shut it off so I can get things done. I just finished the flight school and I'm trying to find planes to steal.

Spoiler:

I remember back when I played Vice City on the first XBox and wanted so bad to be able to fly a plane. I haven't played GTA since then.

I'm pretty sure I'm not completely doing things optimally. Does money really matter?

I kind of get stuck on playing one character at a time. I hope that doesn't matter. I'm sure it pushes you along at an equal pace.

Having stayed at work until ~4am last night debugging some online issues with the game I work on, I'm slightly happy to see that my problems are nothing compared to a Rockstar online engineer's atm.

Totally does. First play through I had almost equal hours per character (about 14).

Second play I have had about 7 hours with Franklin before I even got round to unlocking Michael.

Spent a while trying to get on, finally get in and it's deleted what I did earlier and is asking me to make a new character! WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Re: GTA V - releases September 17

ya i thought something was wrong.

playing single player story mode, i've completed the final mission, but now i couldn't switch from michael to another character.

then i went to create my online guy, and after 5 mins creating it was stuck on that "loading online" icon.

i had the "illegal work" bar set pretty high, and my guy looked like a meth addict. had to tone it down some lol

GTA was just too much of a resounding success. Karmically, something had to go wrong.

For anyone who still hasn't joined, 18 members so far, PS3 crew: http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/crew/2_plus_2

Imagine how much fun we can have once the game actually works.

Anyone on PS3 had any success logging on at any time today? Seems like a majority of players have been on the 360.

whatever update they did for ps3 seems to have ****ed everything up.

The crooked cop mission/game is absolutely insane. With sixteen players, it might be as much fun as anything I've ever done in a game.

360, too, before the update I never say any popin but during the online "Lamar drives you around" cinematic there were a ****load of graphic errors like transparent buildings, texture delays, etc.

Oh and also I spent 45 minutes trying and failing to get into the first race. I think I'll try back in a week or so.

Pretty cool that people are playing online missions as I type but somehow I can't join the server to do the online tutorial. Next time wait a month or however long it takes to get the online stuff working you idiots.

Re: GTA V - releases September 17

theres a few tips i can give you sad souls, not sure how much they really work, but its a few things me and my mates did to get it working.

1. Dont access online through the game menu, go into single player and switch to your online characters silhouette. (in the bit where you swap single player characters)

2. When your standing in the car park waiting for a race, if the camera moves to the left and your character disappears and its sort of like a skyline view (it might go blurry), you can hit (A) (xbox) or (X) on PS3 and it apparently readies you up for a race that you just cant see because the menu is glitching out due to traffic. (only hit it once because that readies you and if you hit it twice it might unready you, one of my mates did this but i dunno how much truth there is in it lol)

A mate of mine was saying about how the start of online is the problem with the game. because everyone has to do the tutorial missions to get in, they're all bottle necking at the same point.

Once you get past the tutorial it loads up every time with no issues.

Another trick was that when you get to the "Launching session" point where a box saying that appears at the bottom right, if it doesnt join in 5-10 minutes, then dashboard it (xbox, dont know how it works on PS3, maybe just home screen or w/e on your console) and keep going in and out over and over.

It would help to find some people in your local area playing the game and see if they have got online yet because it can be a regional issue as well. My mate lives about 3-4 miles up the road from me and got on straight away, so i knew if i kept trying it should work and i got on after about 30 mins messing around.

Another problem we had was the rockstar cloud servers crashing. Those are the servers that you save all your stuff on and it was making us create temporary characters and not letting us use our created characters that we had like 8-10 levels on, but if you get the message about them being unavailable, it gives you the option to continue without saving or retry (X) button on 360. I used that a few times and it booted up again and got my character back online.

A final tip would be, if you do manage to get online, if your gonna eat or go smoke or something, try to stay active in the game every few minutes, because if your away for even like 7-10 mins it will kick you out of the online game and you might have issues getting back in, like i experienced for 20 mins or so when i went to get some pancakes.

best of luck

Re: GTA V - releases September 17

I've seen people say that if you're stuck at the beginning, deleting your character and starting is over working.

how do you delete a character?

I keep getting stuck "waiting for other players" on the first mission. those that got online, did you wait at this screen for x mins or just keep rebooting?
