IV killed almost all that was good about GTA and with the mass-hysteria that for some reason caused all reviewers to claim it was the best game evah!!, there's no chance they'll go back either.

It's very possible it will be better. Ballad of Gay Tony went a little bit back towards the old GTA craziness. Red Dead was amazing, which imo shows the importance of setting in these games. New York is boring as hell. If it's in Vice City or San Andreas it will be significantly better even if they try to emulate 4 in every other way. Also, with 4 they had to deal with the challenges of bringing things into the next gen. Now that they're in, they have more freedom to play around. Look at how empty 3 is compared to VC or SA.

IMO, RDR > SA > VC > 3 > BoGT > 4 > L&D. And I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that 5 will be ahead of all of GTA4 when all is said and done.

He has all rights to post his opinion on this game. I would even go so far and say that many will agree with him because GTA IV was a huge disapointment for hardcore fans of the series.

Before GTAIV came out a was so damn hyped, but this time its more like a "well, lets hope for the best" kinda feeling....

I don't see how 5 can be worse than 4. 4 just doesn't have a soul to it to me. It's sort of like Twilight Princess to me. Just too much of the same too many times. I love both the Zelda and GTA franchise but if their next installments are more of the same then I can't get excited.

The seemingly prevailing "meh" feeling of the masses to GTA4 is interesting, considering sales, "professional" reviews and the way those pros still talk about the game so highly.

Some other elements about 4 that I disliked in addition to the very dull setting and Rockstar's "look, games can be as meaningful as the best films" nonsense:

- Not exactly sure how to say this, but the way portions of missions played out was often pre-ordained. For example, you have to chase this guy down and kill him. You chase him and can never get close enough to ram him no matter how fast your vehicle is (or ramming doesn't phase him), or you keep shooting at him and nothing happens. Then once you reach a certain point on the mission route there is a brief cutscene, and only after that can the person actually be killed. So, before the vehicles get to a predetermined spot and they can show you the cutscene of the guy taunting you, he was actually invulnerable. This is really bad when the game is supposed to be open, free, and spontaneous. If something hilarious happens in the first 10 seconds and the guy flips his car rather than there being a 5 minute chase, then so be it.

Think of it like a basketball game - do they script exciting games, endings, buzzer beaters, etc.? No, because that stuff will happen anyway and it's far more exciting for them to be legitimate moments than if the whole thing was fake. Rockstar needs to trust in the randomness more rather than becoming like Uncharted with carefully scripted action sequences.

- Did GTA4 have the expert targeting? Because RDR became significantly more fun when I started using that. Lock-on targeting is boring - L2, fire a burst, L2 again, fire a burst, rinse and repeat. Too bad I didn't realize to use that in GTA4 if it was available.

They're releasing 3 for mobile devices soon. A console HD collection, or individual HD releases, I'd say is pretty much a guarantee within the next 5 years.

I loved the holy sh*t out of IV and I'll love this one just as much. Also loved VC and III, so I'm down.

SA was the GOAT imo.

The ending few missions were pretty incredible from both the story point of view and just a "look what's going on" sense.
