What's wrong with COD? Nothing if you enjoy doing the same thing over and over again.
to me, gta is more repetitive than COD. at first that may sound silly, but if you think about it, cod is more strategy.
you get into cat and mouse type battles with people and have to be smart and use tactics and adjust to the enemy team and stuff, in GTA everyone just runs about and auto aim headshots each other. you can't really use anything but an AR or you'll get creamed fairly easy.
for example, search and destroy has basically unlimited replay value if your into that kind of thing. you have intense rounds, with one life and there are tons of tactics and weapons to use and finally, the players are what make it the game it is. getting into wars with people makes the game great. I feel like in GTA, im either doing a mission vs AI, that is repetitive, or I'm doing a race, which is good fun sometimes, but annoying a lot of the other times and there isn't much skill, with all the variance in crashes and slip stream and catch up in 99% of races.
or else a death match, as I said, pretty meh, no real dynamic or replay ability, just a lot people with AR's looking to get lucky in a match.
the last team standing is something i have started to play a bit more, those can get fun when you know the tactics and you get a lobby of people who wanna replay them a lot, but they're only 1 round which is too little imo.
If they turned auto aim off, made it 4 rounds and the winners got good prizes, then it would be a good, skillful intense match with some depth to it. instead you show up on the radar for a good while, everybody runs in, gets smoked, the game ends and everyone quits to free roam or votes for a race.
the parachuting is fun the first few times, then it just gets pointless, i think that is obvious to us all.
and that's pretty much it
GTA 4 game modes are a lot better than GTA 5 modes. Turf wars and cops and crooks where some of the best game modes i've ever played in any game ever. I had some amazing times in those lobbies and as of yet all I have had is rage and disappointment in the GTA 5 lobbies, with the occasional meh moments.
someone on youtube also nailed it pretty well, they said R* have just tried too hard and focused on volume of stuff and not quality. Instead of making a deep re-playable game, they strapped together a few modes and seemingly didn't take any time to think about making online long lasting.
If they took auto aim off in all modes, made lobbies for games where you can only use certain guns (pistol only, shotgun only etc), made a better system to match make, like include a feature where you can party up and enter games, instead of having to host because nobody seems to join my games, but the games i join are always full, and make lobbies where you join to do things over again, like a death match lobby, where only death matches run, or a mission lobby, where only missions run and a way to switch quickly between lobbies with your party, then made the game modes a bit more skill based and deep, put turf wars and cops and crooks in, added heists and the content creator on day one (but to be unlocked at like level 50 or something), and changed the depth and rules of LTS and then the game would be 100 times better and people would play it for a long long time.
