Missions suck for making money. Stick to racing. Its fun an profitable. I made 60k last night in an hour racing with the guys

The only time I reported someone for being a bad sport was when he killed me during a mission (he flew the plane to the military base and I tried jumping back in to drive further down to blow up the other jets, he then threw me out of the plane and ran me over with the propeller). I then hunted him down in free roam and we killed each other a bunch of times until he left (also, blew up his car)

Thank you. He showed me where he thought it spawned too. At the airstrip that I think Trevor owns in story mode for those who are interested.

the dedication.
we should probably choose specific crew clothing to go with the emblem once it's done as well.

starting a session in 30 min. or so if anyone wants to start something. I'll probably try to get a footing in deathmatches otherwise.

4 high, if you like missions better than races crew members could invite you to some of the higher level, better paying ones. you 360 or ps3?

I finally got around to trying this and after deleting all save/profile data and a clean install I'm still stuck without being able to join anything. Assuming I either figure it out or get an answer from R* I'll share whatever information I have with people that might have the same problem.

Off to mess around with my network settings to see if that might be causing it.

ETA: I forgot about the fact that online characters are stored on R*'s servers. Now I have to decide whether or not to gamble on permanently deleting for a chance at solving my problem.

Yesterday I found a really decent article about how doing missions is a waste of time, I'm trying to find it again but having no luck.

Missions do eventually pay more but the payout is halved once you do them the first time. Still, for some reason I keep doing them and they're where 90% of my money comes from.

Edit: link is broken for some reason, but it shouldn't be hard to find.

hender, I'm confused/think there might be miscommunication here.
we're talking about creating a new online character. you deleted all your gta data?
I guess you already went through the online character stuff then, but not sure from your last post. confused why you're worried about losing your character if you haven't been able to do anything yet, if that's what you're saying.

enter online mode-> start -> online -> swap characer -> create a new one does nothing for you?

No, it does nothing. I'm probably not explaining myself terribly well either so that could be part of the problem.

I originally started online by creating a character and doing the intro Lamar mission. After that I have been unable to join other people online to do anything at all. I can create a solo or invite only session by myself to rob the stores, sell cars at Los Santos Customs, deliver cars to Simeon, build skills, and the rest of the typical free roam stuff. If I try to do a mission, race, activity, join my crew, join a normal online session, etc. I get an error message.

ETA: And yes, I deleted my profile, saves, and game data after backing them up to a flash drive to see what would happen. The answer as it turns out, is nothing.

BennyBlade and Stepinatore we (nambla) sure wrecked those guys today. I think I was 30-2 vs them, 30-4 if you include step killing me twice

How many times have you gone through the intro mission (with a new character) and gotten the exact same result?
Also is the first race included in that so that you connect with other players for that, but nothing afterwards?

Yes to the first race, I had 2 people with me. I only went through it once with my main. Every other time I get the connection error with a new one. At this point I just hope I can tinker with things to get it to work so I can provide info to people having the same problem.

Ah you're Nambla nice Didn't really know what was going on as i'd been stalking people with a sniper from a skyscraper for a while before that then saw you guys killing people all the time so decided to check it out. Surprised they didn't leave earlier TBH.

One constant theme I keep coming across is some random person will kill me first (as I never shoot first) but when I kill them a few times back they start raging in voice chat and calling their buddies over. Starting to think people only have voice chat so they can rage as that's all anyone does

I did some much more extreme things unfortunately because my settings worked the 1st time but this may be the key.

1. Outside of the game in the XMB menu go to Network Settings->Internet Connection Settings.

2. Choose Custom->Wireless->Enter Manually->Enter Your SSID->Enter Your Security Setting->Enter Your WPA Key->IP Address Setting Automatic->DHCP Host "Do Not Set"->DNS Setting "Automatic"->MTU "Automatic"->Proxy Server "Do Not Use"->UPnP "Disable"

For me the final setting UPnP (universal plug and play) was crucial. I also don't know what would be different if you use a wired connection instead of wireless.

Now for minor spoilers when you enter GTA5 online.

Spoiler:
When you enter online mode you meet up with Lamar. Drive to the mission marker for a race. You'll enter it with either just Lamar or other online players depending on traffic. Finish the race and you'll be prompted to go to a store to buy clothing. Buy something and leave the store. Afterwards you'll be prompted to go to rob a store. Rob the store by pointing a gun at the clerk. Run out and evade the cops. Now you need to go to a drug deal. Once you get there kill the NPCs guarding the drugs, kill the guy carrying them, and pick them up and hop in a car. Once you deliver the drugs you'll be prompted to go to Los Santos Customs and create a default car for MP. Get it resprayed and add insurance and a tracking device. Next you'll get a mission marker for a deathmatch (I think?). Once you finish this up you'll be totally free roam.

I think this is the right order but doing it from memory.

I don't like racing and think it's pretty dumb to be pigeon holed into farming one specific way. Also, I often don't complete the race...lol . If I wanted to race over and over again I'd probably play a different game.

The worst thing is you can't upgrade your car acceleration without winning races. I should be able to upgrade my car no matter how I've decided to level up.

I've really hit a wall in the game. I have an apartment, all unlocked weapons/upgrades and a couple decent cars. However I can no longer upgrade my cars due to never having won a race. I don't want to be forced to cheese my way into winning races with a buddy.

I have no reason to grind anything because there's nothing for me to spend any money on except new cars, which again, I cannot fully upgrade. I have almost no motivation to play anymore which is sad because the game is so cool. For such a big game there aren't many things I want to spend time grinding for.

You must be racing some really bad tracks to detest it that much. The big highway races like Commute, Senora Freeway, Route68 and a couple others I find to be epic and some of the inner city ones are decent. It's just the off-road ones and criminal records that are really bad imo.

you playing those mostly straight on highway races with or w/o traffic? Was really bored by both Commute and Route68 the only time I've played them
