It might be the way you leave GTA Online. If you just shut off your machine I think it doesn't save, you have to leave online first

lol, my strat of waiting for this to calm down is working perfectly. If I had a level 40 character or something I would probably tilt.

I just got home and checked and my character is still gone. It's been about 12 hours now. I assume it's gone for good. The game is so good, though, that I'm still glad I was able to play this past week.

The next time around will be much easier. There's a decent learning curve. Before anybody starts playing for the first time, they should do themselves a favor and seek out a guide online as there are some awfully important mechanics and features that aren't very well explained if they are even explained at all. Maybe some of us who have played could make a list of tips.

One thing I won't do again is farm points and cash, not even just to get back to where I was. It was mind numbing. There's so much other fun stuff to do that it's just a waste of time. I might be more bothered about it if there were unique items in the game, but everybody will all own the same stuff eventually, anyway.

is it me or does it seem harder to get away from the cops (2 and 3 stars) in online mode? and they seem to show up more often as well. if you run two or more people over at once, they instantly pop up, most of the time. sometimes they even randomly pop up if you're in a stolen car.

in story mode you can drive around for hours and never see a cop, but that isn't the case online.

I don't know if it's harder to get away, but I think I do see them more often.

it's definitely due a lot to the fact that you get wanted if seen in any stolen car.

the pedestrians seem way more aggressive online, too

I don't know anything special, really. It's just that knowing things like how the first car you steal becomes your personal vehicle until you buy a property, that it costs money to die, that you don't need ATMs for deposits, how passive mode works, etc. would be really helpful when you're starting out.

indeed. wasted half of my first session on some of that stuff. paying for passive mode so i could ride around looking for atm's to make deposits lol

Da urban achievers

some guy sent me a message saying there's a mission that gets you 18k each in a few mins. wasn't able to get in the game with him, but does anyone know which mission he's talking about/if it exists?

Had to rob my first store. It told me to wait for some other player.

We went in and he ran out with the money, stole my car, then dipped out. I grabbed his **** car and ended up cornering him. We let all of our bullets fly and couldn't kill each other lol.

I hopped in the car with him when he tried to leave. He stopped and got out so I took the wheel and ran his ass over.

Drove away with ~15k so I assume I took the whole score.

Felt good man.

he's probably talking about the 9k mission and just got it mixed up. afaik there is no easy quick 18k mission but i could be wrong.

I also dont know if that crew invitation stuff works correctly, the other guys always seem to have already started that job they invited me for

played a bit online yesterday and it really sucked imo.
the lag was beyond tolerable which made shooting and driving very hard.
some sob camped with a sniper next to the clothingstore i had to go to in the very beginning. i was constantly outgunned and couldnt get off a good shot because of the lag anyway. the final straw was when i turned on passive mode ad people were stil able to kill me i wasnt able to shoot back though.

Then you land on the ground and I don't get how you avoid dying within 5 seconds once a few cop cars show up because you're so vulnerable to bullets; you can shoot a few dudes and get in a car, but then the remaining guys put a few more bullets in you before you can drive away and you're dead.

I'm probably doing it wrong though.
Lose the 5 stars and then land? Just fly the fighter jet without pushing the afterburners/gas on a slight to moderate bank/turn and the helicopters won't ever see you and you'll lose your stars. (Make sure to fly high enough that the cops on the ground don't see you)I got 5 stars and just kept blowing things up for like 1/2 hr online and it seemed like the cops just gave up as my 5 stars went away after a blew up a chopper. I'd blow more cops up and get 3 stars and it would disappear very quickly as well

Noticed my character was down Saturday, didn't play at all Sunday and is still gone today so I'm guessing it's gone permanently now

It should reappear i think unless you created a new character in that slot i'm not sure. Rock* say to save your progress go back into story mode and that will make sure it's saved but at the moment all seems ok, hope it works out for you.

Things really get even more awesome at higher levels, I just hit 21 and got the sniper rifle - which came in handy pretty soon as someone had a bounty so I popped the guy from distance to pick up $7000. Then when delivering a car for export an armored truck came by so I blew the back doors off that but got no cash though did one earlier for $8.5k. Only problem it seems like the servers might be matching people with similar levels and maybe there's not many people 20+ i don't know but near everytime I join a new server there's noone else on there. Though that does have some other benefits.

For those of you that have been trying to invite me on PS3 stuff today [namely namblagambla and Kruzzzzzzze] I'm not ignoring you, it's been giving me an "unable to connect" anytime I try to join any invite the last few days.

When you guys are grinding cash and RP, keep an eye for people just camping your lobby making others do all the work. It's worth starting a new lobby just so they don't get the satisfaction of ranking up for doing nothing. It's been becoming more common from what I've seen lately.
