are these compairisons real? Looks really big if they are, but doesn't look realistic. Roads in the SA map look way tinier.

This game better be good

A bigger budget than the movie Avatar. Jesus christ. Think about that for a second.

but unlike avatar, it showed a profit even before being released. pre-orders alone made more than it cost

To be fair, the preorder numbers are in revenue, not profit, I would think.

A lot of those budget figures are production budgets and not including marketing. The GTA one is including marketing i believe. I imagine its true position would be somewhere around where Inception is. Which is still amazing.

But if the preorder revenue numbers are higher than the production budget, then the game is profitable if the studio doesn't have a variable cost associated with game distribution.

Yea, I mean still incredible to think they put this much "risk" into developing the game and were instantly paid off, and can now cash in for years.

I know youre being sarcastic. But Rockstar are known to have the most aggressive PR team. There was constant stories floating around GTA4 about phonecalls from Rockstar to publications about it only getting a 9(!) and not a 10 and review scores being changed from 9.5 to 10. Obviously makes a difference if it puts your game top of metacritic etc. I actually think GTA4 is a 10 fwiw.

Fun game is to read reviews and figure out what the reviewer gave the game vs. what the final score on the game is. I have seen some shocking examples of this. Game gets slammed in review. Final review score 8.5.
