Makes a lot of sense for Rockstar to not announce next gen and sell 20mil on current gen and then 6 months later when theres a bigger install base for next gen they announce a next gen version and get even more sales.
We've never known much about how Rockstar works but this game needs to be rebuilt entirely for new generation consoles and I am going to guess they will port to PC first (PC to new gen should be easy though), and I don't see them releasing new gen and PC at the same time, so I think if a new gen version ever comes it will be late 2014 at the earliest.

About the trailer

IF ONLY THIS TRAILER HAD DUBSTEP ONLY THEN WOULD I BUY IT

being able to build my own criminal empire from scratch is so exciting

i'm slightly worried that there wont be much of a storyline or it wont be such a huge part of the game as normal but i think itll have way more longevity as a game

the worst part of GTA by far is finishing the game to realise you have virtually nothing to do.

Jesus, how does the Xbox 360 and the ps3 even run this game? It must suck the life out of each to make it look that beautiful. No wonder you gotta do an 8gig install before you even play the game. Game looks absolutely gorgeous. Looks on par with some of the next gen stuff I've seen.

Yep. Not a bad thing I can point to in that trailer. And it was better then I thought it would be. Didn't think there would be nearly as much customization, which is huge. It also looks like it's about as unique for each gamer as is feasible. Mostly from the switching of players whenever you want.

I really think 100's of hours can be sunk into this game to pull of the 100%. And probably even before then. Considering how detailed it is, I could see spending days just walking/driving around and looking at random ****.

+1

it's actually overwhelming

the customisation looks huge which is great considering there was rumours there would be very little in the game not so long ago.

The switching between characters can't have been truly in game. It was seamless.

the character switching looks like a good way to avoid the only bad part of San Andreas, which was totalling your car in the middle of the mountains and being forced to run for 30 mins to get back to a road

I guess that's the sort of thing where the 8gb install comes into play. Reading stuff off discs is seriously the nut low (like, seriously, I can't overstate how ****ing slow they are) for that sort of thing where you quickly need to read a lot of data (like all the objects around your new location) - having it be from a HD or USB stick or w/e will make that stuff wayyyyy more plausible on the fly.

The graphics might not be as good as they look. Previous footage that we've seen was said to have been not actual PS3 or 360 footage.

That's like the thing I'm looking forward to the most actually.

At the beginning of the trailer it shows the guy about to break through the window and it said hit x to do whatever the action was so it looked like ps3 footage.

Pretty sure it's legit going off what people had described who got shown a 20min gameplay demo a month or two ago.

I think it can still be running on a computer on a dev kit or something like that.

Does Xbox have mouse/keyboard capabilities?

I want to get a PS3 (4) for The Last Of Us (I had to rent a friends and then give him the game, haha) and I think I'd prefer a PS3, but I'm not that skilled in shooters with a controller.

I hope games (at least the ones with more intelligent aspirations - Rockstar being a company who does care about that) start to move away from this power fantasy shooter nonsense. Imagine if 90% of movies were about the protagonist murdering hundreds of people?

Like in this trailer, the weapon wheel. Come on. You get to pause the game and choose between like 8 weapons (every single one of which you have on your person) that you then instantly switch to. You can get shot at hundreds of times as long as you only get hit by a dozen or so bullets.

Still excited, but people have been talking about "shooter fatigue" and the "death of the shooter" with regards to BioShock: Infinite. Hopefully that movement gains momentum.

I would imagine so.

realism should definitely become a bigger factor than it has been in the future

that said, it's a video game, not a simulator.

some changes will just make the game tedious/frustrating.

i mean can you imagine a gta where if you murder someone police are constantly looking for you and if you get caught its game over?

it takes the whole "game" aspect out of it.

They do seem too good for current gen, but rockstar claims the trailer was PS3 footage

iirc one of the journos who saw the demo said that the closer together the characters are the faster the transition, from pretty much instantaneous to taking about 10-15 secs if they're far away (which i thought was quite long at the time but I can see why now and dont mind anymore)

Rockstar should team up with google earth and make a game which covers an exact replica of the whole world. Release date 2026.
