For every GTA except 4 I've got fond memories of awesome characters, music, graphic-style, exciting vehicles and fun missions. Cannot remember a thing from 4, they took away a sh%% load of vehicles/actions, just didn't do it for me.

Jeedz- Have you played any of the open world GTA-type games that aren't from Rockstar? Mercenaries, Just Cause, Saint's Row, etc.?

Hmm, Just Cause 2 and I'm not sure if Bethesda counts but Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 3 etc etc. None of them compared for me. I might have poor taste, but as far as I saw it it was one of the most 'complete' games I've ever played.

I'm kind of being glib, obviously that **** in the preview about how the game is focused on heists and you actually have some agency in how to plan the big heists sounds AWESOME if they pull it off. SA and 4 really did not allow you nearly as much freedom in completing missions, if you failed you generally just had to try again and do it better(and figure out if it was one of those stupid invincible bad guy chases) instead of trying a different approach.

But otherwise, like Baltimore Jones notes, jesus Rockstar if you're gonna try to be serious please hire a writer who knows how to do that. The dialogue in the rich dude trailer was cringeworthy. That huge list of features includes a LOT of **** that Saint's Row did 7 years ago that SHOULD'VE already been in GTA, mixed with **** that already was in GTA but got taken out in 4 to make room for ****ing darts and fake TV shows.

I think a lot of you guys are forgetting how INSANE the hype was around 4 and how ****ing disappointing that game was. Rockstar is great at making games, but they are goddamn WORLD CLASS at manipulating the gaming press.
Yea the heist stuff could be cool if there is ACTUAL freedom in how you go about planning and carrying them out. The previews cite an example of stealing a getaway car in an earlier mission and stashing it in a certain area. But do we get to put the car on any of multiple streets with multiple possible escape routes, OR substitute a helicopter (or hell a jetpack later in the game) on a nearby roof, OR stash multiple cars for contingencies, OR hide a police car that we could casually drive away with, OR hide a school bus and then join a parade of school buses, OR put a motorcycle on a roof and escape through the roofs, etc.? Or is it really just going to be "steal this specific car and then hide it in this specific area within a 30 foot radius (and then when the mission starts it will always be in exactly the same spot anyway)"?

It may sound like I'm asking a lot, but it's not like they'd have to program in every possible option. Some of it could be scripted events (such as the school bus option), but most of it really just requires that the missions give you as much freedom as the non-mission gameplay probably will.

Jeedz- You should check out Saint's Row 2. The story or whatever can be a matter of taste, but just in terms of straight up gameplay mechanics GTA4 got really lazy, numerous games have done the same things better. Unless you have a taste preference for "tedium" and "****ty transparent scripting" or something.

The TV belonged to Pacino.

I played SR1 before I played any GTA game and I love them both almost equally. Basically, whatever game I happen to be playing would be considered my favorite at that time.

I don't get the vicious hate for GTAIV. It's my favorite of the series by a good sized margin. The only things I didn't like were not getting anything for killing pigeons and not having a list of cars to search for and turn in, rather then Brucie telling you exactly where to go and what to get. I didn't mind killing the pigeons (cause of the radio stations) and the activities aspect was worth it for the dialogue on the way to them.

Just the better shooting mechanics in the GTA world made it my favorite. I don't really care that much about the story, but I appreciate that they tried something different. All of the main elements were there, and the non-story stuff was a blast. It lacked a few things I'd liked to have had, but I only missed them after sinking a crap-ton of hours into it. Still thoroughly enjoyed it though.

TBoGT had the best features though. The ability to replay missions and the mission challenges, my favorite feature, I'm really hoping make a return in this one.

I loved every GTA game except IV. IV is one of the worst video games ever made. I've tried multiple times to finish it but just cannot because it sucks so bad.

Ok worst video game for the budget and time spent that went into it, if you can calculate that somehow. Definitely worst of all time then.

Wtf? GTA VI was a great game. I think they improved on almost all gameplay mechanics, shooting/cover was much better, but not perfect (Protip, always use manual/expert targeting, much better experience). Driving was a massive improvement, really hoping that R* haven't dialled it all the way back to SA standards, bit too arcadey for me having played it since. The wanted system was better (if a bit easy to escape up to 4 stars, sometimes escaping even 2 stars was a bitch on SA with the police bikes shooting the crap out of your car). The story let it down imo, bit too serious (even the "massive" decisions we had to make didn't really affect anything in the end), but TBoGT was fantastic tho, back to the crazy that we know and love. By using three protagonists, they've got scope to do pretty much whatever they want with the story without it turning into nonsense, I personally can't wait to see what s*** they'll have Trevor do for us.

My experience with GTA4 was probably hurt by using auto-targeting. When I switched to manual in RDR it became so much better.

I'm getting more excited about GTA5 as I think about the massive space to explore and all the stuff there will be to do. At the same time, I'm already getting mad at how much the obviously awful story and dialogue (trailers tell the tale) are going to be praised by most gamers and the mainstream press.

My biggest problem with GTA4 is that the place itself was boring (for reference, I loved the environments of RDR, Vice City, San Andreas). Doesn't seem like that will be an issue here.

i'm excited as hell, everytime more info is released, my dick gets harder.

this is the GTA that every GTA fan has been waiting for, it's going to include every single thing we've all been waiting for in true GTA fashion.

I'm guessing so. I thought they'd have waited till the next-gen, but guess not. I wouldn't rule out expansions that are solely for next-gen or something like that though.

Does suck that there won't be a PC version available upon launch, or at least thats what I heard. I don't own a console, but will gladly get one for this (and a few other games I've missed out on) it looks that good. Part of that is cause I want to dive right in along with the other people who get it first day and actually participate in the convo's in realtime rather then way after they're finished talking about them.

People who have had previews have said that the actual game doesn't look as good as the screenshots and trailers have made it look. It still looks good but there is a notable difference.
