It still doesn't have all the things SA had, like the RPG elements and Las Venturas.

I really liked Las Venturas

I think after playing Oblivion/Fallout 3 its quite difficult to go back to games like GTA IV where you must do certain missions to progress rather than having total freedom.

there are still some rpg aspects but its more character definition than actual progressing/change between them.

Yea i liked LV too but i think thats too narrow of a direction to go in bcos its so orientated around limited themes.

I'm pretty sure with GTA 5, they're making freedom more important, you can access all areas of the map immediately rather than having to do missions to get there and they're stepping away from the usual "having to do x, y and z before you can do a or b". You'll have far more control over the direction of the game.

Richard Bastion on WKTT voiced by Jason Sudeikis is one of the main reasons I still play gta 4 online.

It's been delayed but at least we have a firm date.

I don't understand how it takes this company 5.5+ years between releases.

The 5 years isn't the problem, it's the last few months that get me.

I don't understand how they don't have a better idea of how long it will take to finish a game. Why does it happen every single time? Unless the delays are an actual business strategy. In December they thought it would be done in 3-5 months but all of a sudden it's more than double that?

no console game is 5.5 years+ huge. Only PC games can take that long.

This is not project Titan.

It's not like they're just working on GTA-games (and there's been two expansion packs for 4 in those years too) . While Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3 were Rockstar San Diego releases, Rockstar North were involved with developing those too.

Agreed but they have multiple teams. The GTA team is dropping the ball big time, yes they are good enough but they could be so much more.

I know stuff like CoD is cookie cutter year after year (but people still buy it).... no reason GTA can't have a new game at minimum every 2 years. 5.5 is just plain unacceptable (talking mainly from an investor standpoint here).

They are very clever though in that people won't get bored of the game because of yearly rehashed releases.

Fifa and Call of Duty used to be my favourite games. I have just sold Fifa in the second hand market and got rid of Black Ops 2 after a week.

I'm pretty much guaranteed to disappear from normal life for about a month after GTA gets released.

I'm not sure that's true. They definitely could make more money short term by churning out GTAs faster, but long term there is an audience fatigue factor to consider too.

I'd take fewer, but higher quality, releases over many lower quality (even if it might not be a huge difference) any time. It's not like there's a lack of other great games to play while we wait.

Rockstar North have been working on Agent as well as having to polish up LA Noire and RDR. Completely agree with MinusEv. A new GTA every 2 years would be a terrible idea long term. People would tire of it and it would eventually kill the series. Activision are laughing at the moment with COD but they obviously haven't learnt from their mistakes with Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk.

There was an interview with Leslie Benzies on this exact subject which I can't be bothered finding because I'm on iPad but he pretty much brings up all the points stated in this thread. Saying that 5.5 years between games is unacceptable is kind of ridiculous when we haven't even seen the scope of the game let alone the work they did on other games. It's not unheard of for large scale games to take a long time anyway. RDR was in development for over 3 years. Even Skyward Sword took Nintendo over 4 years.

You think theyre purposefully delaying the game for any other reason than its needed? Considering how great all the GTA games have been i would say the development time is one of the things they absolutely nail.

Sony's announcing the next PlayStation this month, and it's supposed to be coming out later this year. Now that this game is delayed until later this year, I wonder how this will all play out...?

Glad to hear that. The consoles have been getting too old and graphically bottlenecking games like skyrim that could be way prettier if not for the need to run on consoles. According to wikipedia page, GTA 5 is still planned for ps3, no surprises there.

Now here's to hoping they port it to PC before another 5 years passes.

I was saying it's a possible business strategy in terms of announcing it's going to release at a date way earlier than they know it will be ready, then "delaying" it. If it's not a business strategy then I don't understand how you think they nail development time. I'm talking about predicted development time (which, again, you'd think they'd have a better sense of by now), not looking at the finished game after the fact and declaring that they worked on it for the exact right length of time since the game is so polished.
