yeah. Firearms was cool. IIRC they had a innovative health system. And the AUG was totally imbalanced. I didn't like it very much anymore after some update and I returned to CS.

I liked how you could "bleed" in the early Day of Defeats and then had to crawl somewhere and bandage yourself. And the most awesome sniper camping spot of all times: in the water on Omaha. If you did it right, you couldn't be seen. Fun times. They corrected that glitch at some point in time though.

Sadly, I'd still play this if I could ever recover my account. Not 100% sure what happened to it, but I know someone else got ahold of it once I stopped playing. I had a whole **** ton of expensive weapons/armor/special stuff/gold. I was way up there in levels, too. Once they gay'd out the trading market or w/e I kinda lost interest.

Meh, I'm so lame.

Probably Command & Conquer 95. Admittedly it was in the days where games companies assumed everyone playing games on the internet knew every port and forwarding setting and whatnot to make their online game work, but I knew someone who DID know this stuff, and it was awesome.

Quake 1 on Quakespy was the first online game I got into. Unfortunately broadband wasn't a huge thing back in that day so I could only play when I was visiting my brother at college (rare).

Starcraft was the real gateway though, esp since 56k was a "fast" connection for battle.net.

and day of defeat , when you watched someone pick up a nade you had preset lol

duke nukem over a modem/lan

and there was this fps multiplayer , when you shot someone with a corssbow they turned into a chicken , forgot its name

just glad you dont have to mess with a dialup modem any more , searching for strings +at$f etc etc

ahhh and diablo2 , had a warrior with 2 swords 3 socketed with magic find , and used to run into old cow runs and pop the corspses lol closed all those accounts they day went to trade and there where 9700 windforces up for grabs , the day of the dupe

Ultima Online.

I STILL play today, on a well populated free server (PM me for link if interested).

Played for 5 years, quit, played FFXI, then WOW after they butchered fishing in FFXI. Played the crap out of WoW and picked up UO again recently.

That game still has not been matched in how deep it felt.

Its one of those games where "better" will certainly come along, but there will never be another game as engaging as Ultima Online.

Amazing, amazing game.

Hmm first online game I played...im thinking probaly that was Warcraft 2, Also I remember playing MUDs like LORD way back in the day..there was another one that was more futuristic too with like bounty hunters and stuff that was a good MUD too..forget the name though.

I find it amusing that multiple people have mentioned Day of Defeat DOD, as I was huge into that game ...I would take out entire teams with My Kar98, I just had insane aim with that thing ...one shot killls almost anywhere on the body. I was in the best clan for that game, DH, [DH]Karnage was my tag if anyone remembers.

Also all the early MMOs ! like Anarchy Online, Asherons call etc

lol.... I play(ed) on this server too. I'm somewhat certain that me and my two UO comrades are the richest people on the server.

I stockpiled more than 200 of the neon beard/hair dyes during the CUB event.

I logged on the other day for the first time in about 3 months and loaded up my tank mage with gear and went out to PvP. It was like watching a monkey wearing boxing gloves attempt to kill people. I had pretty much forgotten all of my hotkeys. I got killed by the first person I got into a fight with, but he was decent and gated/rezzed me. I gave him some dyes for free to acknowledge his lack of douchebaggery and he **** himself.

UO is so fun.

the online store just opened for preorders for MO if anyone's interested. Game doesn't release until Oct-Nov, but preordering gets you into the first-come first serve beta (blocks of 2000 every 2 weeks). Fwiw I just preordered and still made the 1st block (July 20th). Of course it still is beta..and min 3 months away beta at that so caveat emptor imo.
