Got stuck at a crafting station when some sort of debug scripting mode randomly enabled when I tried to leave, not finding anything on how to get out of it. Probably should have given this a few patches.

Decided To start over because I know I missed a few things in the early missions and also realized that my character name will be unacceptable to play if kids are over around the holidays. Decided to play as a male this time got through the character build screen up till you wake up in the vault annnnd you can't move at all. tried restarting the application same thing. tried restarting the PS4 same thing.. tried starting another male character same thing happened. My sister and my nieces will just have to deal w/ the fact I named my character preacher F****r.

Very impressed so far!

Didn't play any Fallout previously, coming in pretty much blind. At first, was kinda taken aback by the graphics - like, they're "ok" - but not up to the level I have become accustomed to on PS4 for sure.

Haven't encountered any serious bugs yet. A few wrong subtitles in a few places, like it got stuck on a previous part of the conversation.

A+ Fantastic storytelling, atmosphere etc. Feels like Half Life 2. Amazing. Love the way there is only a simple ambiguous icon on a compass, rather than the map blinking with details of what everything might entail e.g Ubisoft-Game. And liking the random places to explore and find loot.

So far I have (over about 4 hours):
Spoiler:

Escaped the vault, went back home, went to a museum, fought some raiders. got the power armor suit and minigun, fought a large beast - then took my suit to Red Rocket garage and repaired it. Along with a load of exploration of every room, stealing coffee cups etc.
Is the house and weapon/armour any good?

I'm about 5 hours in and haven't once had an urge to play about with either.

deleting any saved game data before restarting your game might work.

Loving the game almost as much as I'm hating how bad the ui and options are for pc.

Having to change 3 different .ini-files in 2 different locations just to change the FOV and/or turn off mouse acceleration (both of which are a must in this game) is beyond bad.

Only had a few hours to play yesterday so I didn't want to get into fiddling too much with keybindings and looking at the mechanics behind other stuff but I have to do so before playing again because it was just completely rubbish.

Typically changing a few keys gives me a good setup, but here's it like hardly anything makes sense.

I still have no idea how the 'favourites' thing works beyond that you seem to only have 4 hotkeys now...

The game itself is really, really good though. I'll just have to get it configured and then do some heavy calming meditation to forget how annoyed that whole thing made me before playing again.

Luckily it runs really well on ultra and I haven't had any noticable bugs or issues beyond some bad ai-pathing.

Thought I encountered a bug when trying to clear out the Corvega plant and couldn't find the last Raiders. Literally walked around for like an hour and a half before realizing I had missed a door. Outside occasional frame rate issues, I've had no problem on ps4.

has anyone done the side mission where you have to repair 3 pipes in a huge quarry thats full of water? Is there any way of emptying the quarry with the pump that you fixed?

Dave, great minds think alike. Half Life 2 was absolutely what it reminds me of (one of the great games of it's time). Graphics are definitely "ok" for the PS4 and the shooting/movement of the character is also "ok" (having being spoiled by Destiny's smoothness in those two aspects), BUT it still looks to be a fun game so far. I have a few questions that maybe the regs can answer to help make the experience a bit better.

Are you guys maxing out your equip load very quickly? I am only 3 hours in and I already have had to dump items 3 times to make it so I can run (230ish max load). I only put a few points in endurance, but didn't think I would have that much trouble this early with it? I even sold a bunch of items once and still have had to do it 3 times being the item pickup whore that I am. Thoughts? Are you stashing items away in drawers etc? I didn't think I would maybe be back to places hence not doing that.

Are you able to equip multiple weapons in the D pad button area and if so how? That would help not having to hit circle a 100 times to continually change weapons as well as use healing items, check map/quest etc.

Finally, is the Radaway or whatever it is called the only way to get rid of your radiation that you get from health items?

So far a few hours in I am here:

Spoiler:
Escaped the vault, hit the Museum, helped the rebels out but after that I had a choice of continuing with them or going to Diamond City. I chose to go toward Diamond City. I then hit a Police station on the way after a radio frequency got my attention. I then helped them clear out some enemies which then prompted a side quest of the brotherhood. I finished that and got an early legendary weapon called Righteous Authority. I thought that was a good spot to turn off the game and then test out the weapon tonight on my way continuing toward Diamond City

What difficulty is everyone playing on? I started on hard and tried out using rifles but was having a hard time keeping my distance from enemies so I had to turn it down to normal. Overall I'm having fun so far about 4 hours in. I've accomplished nothing other than exploring and dying a lot.

Just one annoyance so far (apart from some npc conversations being cut off mid sentence- subtitles are required) and it's the same that i have with every FO game: why am i constantly finding stashes of items lying out in the open after 200 years. The human race must have lost the ability to open fridges and drawers while I was asleep.

As someone who put 300-400 hours into both 3 and NV, this game is wow. There is almost too much to do compared to those games.

Some questions/thoughts...

1. Are we supposed to hold onto everything and not sell to vendors? In previous games I picked up every item and sold to vendors and built up a massive caps reserve so I could buy anything I wanted. Should I not do that now? How worth it is it to build up settlements?
2. I am dying way too often, much more than in previous games. The only gun that I have with decent ammo is the 10MM which can't hit anyone far away. I guess I leaned on Old VATS way too much previously.
3. I have no idea if its more worth it to buy points of SPECIAL or perks, I've mixed and matched so far, hope I'm not messing that up.
4. The PipBoy is a little confusing when trying to figure out which pieces of armor I should wear in terms of bettering my defense, its not really very clear.

Overall I am loving it, but it feels a little bit too much so far, I'll need to go a little more slowly than normal in these games.

For those wanting more storage space...

Spoiler:
Your companion can carry about what you can carry, they basically double your carrying ability. Also the workbenches in Sanctuary can hold your stuff, if it goes by previous games it should be safe there.

If you store items in the workbench will they be in all workbenches or just that one? Some games have storage containers so to speak that will store all items.

Edit...never mind found the answer to this question.

There's a perk that allows you to access your stuff from any workbench.

For assigning more weapons and usable items to your d-pad, right shoulder button is the "favorite" button when you have something highlighted in your Pipboy. You can add three weapons or items to each direction of your d-pad.

1. Yes and no. If you're crafting anything, you should use them as material. Also don't pick up everything. Scraps with a low value and high weight especially made out of steel and wood seem a bit useless. At the beginning it seems hard to find vendors so don't be afraid to scrap items. Most junk is better off as a scrap. Scrapper at Intelligence 5 allows you to get more out of destroying weapons/armor. This far I've run out of copper, adhesive and oil constantly so you should be on the lookout for junk that contain those materials.

2. Use melee if the enemy gets near. Craft a better one if possible. The areas get more difficult further you go from the Vault 111 so scour nearby grounds first. Maybe start fights with that laser musket sneak critical, switch to 10 mm and if someone gets close, whack them?

3. Yeah, it's really hard to know since nobody knows what is the practical levels that your character ends with. Probably around 50?

About the dpad, from your inventory, if you select a weapon/item and press R1 you can add it to your dpad menu. The most I have in one slot/direction is three items and don't know if you can add more than that. That's 12 items you can bring up quickly anyway.

I've avoided elevators so far tho

If you had gone back with the other people you met at the Museum(and I think they go back without you, so if you just go to where they said they were headed), you'll find the solution to all your carrying issues.

Couple of bad things:

1) When you dismiss a companion, is there a record of where you sent them? I think I may have lost Dogmeat.

2) This is sort of a spoiler, but also something that I'm complaining about. The vague dialogue choices are too vague. There is a traveling merchant who I was talking to, I thought a dialogue option was "play hardball" but it was actually "straight up threaten to kill them" so now that vendor won't sell **** to me. Finding vendors in the early game is pretty tough.

Specifically is there any indication between the kind of armor that lets you wear arm/leg/chest pieces and the kind that doesn't? I don't see one. You just gotta try.
