I'm on a new base, not really going for a mega factory but it's getting pretty big compared to my previous. I'm using the RSO mod which makes resource spawns much more rare and far apart, but the further away you go the richer and bigger they get. Eeven so, I'm chewing threw resource patches way too quickly and spending most of my time trying to build rail lines out to them and route things around my base to keep up with demand. I got so sick of constantly running out to tap new oil patches that I went back to all the ones I'd tapped (like 50) and just used a console command to refill each back to like 500%, so at least that's not a worry. I don't want to use an infinite resource mod, but I feel like I shouldn't be spending nearly as much time as I do finding new resources, even with the FARL rail mod and personal roboports to automatically build everything for me.

I finally figured out how to regulate my oil processing with decider combinators, it's pretty satisfying seeing all my storage tanks fairly constant around 3/4 full, constantly rerouting products around to different chemical plants. And usually that means bleeding excess of in to solid fuel production, I think I have around 200k solid fuel in storage even with a bunch of rocket fuel assemblers working on them. I think I'm getting to the point where the game is losing interest for me without a more interesting objective, though I suppose I could try things like upping the biter spawns to make fighting them and trying to expand to a bigger build a real challenge.

Yeah oil is a major PITA and I hate it too, kinda fixed it with Bobs Mods because of better Pump Jacks and better speed modules, which means empty pumps still produce around 1 oil/s. But I hate searching for new oil.

As far as biters goes, I'm even thinking about disabling them haha. They pose no challange in the mid to late game and are just a super chore to clean up with an easy turret creep. I'll try a death world for ****s and giggles, but meh. They need an overhaul imho.

Got my factory to the point I was doing a rocket every few minutes and now I'm just running around making things look pretty. I wish there was a quicker way to unload belts and filled smelters though with bots, like a new kind of bot that just handles plates and ore but draws a lot more power or something like that.

I'm still interested in doing a multiplayer factory if anyone is still playing and down.

Dude speedruns to rocket launch in under 2 hours:

Just the sheer amount of overall resource planning, hotkey memorization, layout templates went into that I can not even begin to fathom ...

You can now troll the aliens.

Pretty cool article on how it was done, but some people have WAAY too much time on their hands.

I wasn't able to put some time into the Factorio demo before the price increase unfortunately... but I noticed that the price went up and it is still in early access? What's up with that?

It wasn't meant to happen at the same time. The price change was the effect of their .16 version being stable. Looking ahead, after "some months," they will release version .17, which they will probably consider as 1.0 and that is when it will be out of Early Release.

I got in about a week ago and the game is really fun. It's like cookie clicker on steroids. It's best to go into it without knowing the full depth and complexity of the game. I watched a bunch of videos after about 16 hours and I couldn't believe how complex and expansive some automation systems could become. It was way over my head.

But, it's not entirely necessary. You could still do just as well with smaller systems. It would just take longer -- and that's okay.

Went ahead and picked up the game after loving the demo. I'm not far in to free play, but I'm looking forward to finding some videos on how to maximize this game.

I really learned a lot from watching KatherineOfSky's videos. She has several playthrough series including one just done after the 1.0 release as well as some really good tutorial videos
