Yeah even though I've played like 150 hours of Eu3 in the last couple weeks I'm getting more and more excited for Eu4.

Day 1 Ottoman Ironman AAR incoming. Rather then just try to get as big as possible I'm going to try following the missions and see what happens.

Pretty sure my schedule next Tuesday will be to go to work for 12 hours, get home, play for maybe 1-2 hours before having to go to bed simultaneously excited at awesomeness and angry that I can't play more

Demo up on steam - 525 mb

Quote:
Europa Universalis IV demo content
- The Demo of the empire building game Europa Universalis IV allows you to play as one of the four nations below through 28 years of history.
- All single player capabilities as well as an extensive tutorial and hint-system are included in this demo.
- There are no multiplayer capabilities, and please note that the ability to save & load have been disabled.
- English only and Windows only.

Trade/Venice
Venice was a prominent Italian Free City and played an important role in Mediterranean trade. Their fleet was important for gaining dominance over the Mediterranean Sea and securing the spice trade from India. Venice is a good choice for playing the trading game and seizing trade opportunities in the Mediterranean.

Warfare/The Ottoman Empire
The Ottoman Empire was a major power up to its fall in 1922. The Ottomans dominated land from the Balkans to the Arabian Peninsula. In Europa Universalis IV they are a strong choice for playing a warmonger game because of their cheaper coring costs and powerful early troops.

Colonization/Portugal
Portugal is a natural choice for exploring the colonization part of the game. The nation was important in the exploration of the coast of Africa and the New World. Portugal lies isolated in the western part of the Iberian Peninsula and lacks natural enemies. As long as they keep good relations with Castile they should be able to peacefully explore and colonize.

Diplomacy/Austria
Austria was a major power through the renaissance and up to World War I. The Habsburg family ruled Austria and controlled the Holy Roman Empire for a large part of its existence. Diplomacy is important for keeping the title of Holy Roman Emperor, as it is an elective title. Keeping good relations with the electors will greatly improve your chances of keeping the crown. Austria is a strong choice for a diplomatic game because of their inclination towards holding the title of Emperor.
I don't plan on actually playing it but I will use it to get familiar with the UI this weekend.

Play as any nation in the demo:

1. Go to ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Europa Universalis IV Demo\common\countries

2. Find whichever country to want to play as and swap its name with one of the playable countries (ex. if you want to play as France, rename France.txt to Venice.txt and the original Venice.txt to France.txt)

3. Go to ...Steam\steamapps\common\Europa Universalis IV Demo\common\country_tags and open 00_countries.txt

4. Using the example from #2, find the VEN entry and change it from VEN = "countries/Venice.txt" to FRA = "countries/Venice.txt" and then find the FRA entry and change it from FRA = "countries/France.txt" to VEN = "countries/France.txt"

5. Select the country by clicking on it on the map, don't use the shields.

so im playing the beta, but save game is greyed out.

Pls tell me that means its been autosaving and not that I cant actually save ever? -.-

ps: fu venice, I thought we were friends.

You mean demo, right? Saving is disabled in demo I think. Full game will have it (unless you play IRONMAN MODE which will autosave consistently but won't allow manual saves, to keep you from going back if something bad happens).

No saving in the demo, demo only goes to 1520 anyway.

well fu

ive been having a blast and actually doing amazing so far, in the release game does every province start with a market and fort and everything?

Anyways, flanders got roflstomped, now venice is gonna eat it. Think you can go around and talk **** about Gorz ?!

My heavy ships gettin' made in front of your face. I know what youre up to. Pre-emptive strikes ftw.

We got one!

iirc, in EU3, your capital province would start with most/all buildings but most other provinces wouldn't have them (aside from forts, which everyone in Europe has, but get less and less common the farther outside Europe you get). The demo does start in 1492 (full game starts 1444), so the later start date prob implies buildings going up in that timespan that you wouldn't start with.
Europa Universalis IV: Greatest game of all time Quote

Probably depends on the country. In EU3 Ottomans start with every lvl 1 building in all of their provinces.

Might have found a way to disable stopping at 1520, just testing now.

Overwrite the original .exe with the above one. It is safe, I made it myself.

You can select any nation to play and play it for as long as you want. Game still starts in 1492 and there is no saving.

Also apparently Ming can't last 28+ years on speed 5 with me doing nothing.
