To get PUs without spamming Royal Marriages everywhere (in Eu3 anyway) is to just get one royal marriage with one of the countries whose succession is disputed. Then claim their throne. A few weeks later you'd get the Claim Throne CB and you can force them into a PU for 50% war score. Once that's done move on to the next target.

Or spam Royal Marriages everywhere and hope to get lucky.

Stuff you buy with...

Admin Power

Ideas:
- Innovative: hodgepodge of things, slightly cheaper mercs/troops/leaders/tech, seems kinda ****ty
- Religion: so you can spread the true faith everywhere and eventually tolerate other people too (moar/better missionaries, cheaper stab, dat unam sanctam CB)
- Espionage: buffs spying, I don't know how most of this stuff works
- Economic: DOLLA DOLLA BILLZ Y'ALL, mo money cheaper everything, prob good to have with a trade empire
- Administrative: cheaper/moar mercenaries and a couple bureaucratic impovements

Core conversion
Stability boost
Admin tech (unlock new idea groups, make production/stability/income buildings)
Build administrative buildings

Diplo power

Ideas:
- Diplomatic: More diplomats, people like you better, easier claims/cores, CB against other govt types
- Trade: DOLLA DOLLA BILLZ Y'ALL, mo merchants mo money mo trade
- Exploration: moar colonists, explorers, farther/more profitable colonies, final bonus = permanent CB to eradicate aztecs/incas/africans, in case they're somehow still around at this point
- Naval: moar+better+cheaper shipzzz
- Expansion: hodgepodge of colonists/trade, seems ****ty until you get the final bonus (permanent CB vs Asia)

Taking territories/etc in war
Province culture conversion
Hiring admirals/explorers/conquistadors
Diplo tech (trade efficiency/range, colonial range, diplo influence, naval power, trade/naval buildings)
Build diplomatic buildings

Military power

Ideas:
- Aristocracy (monarchies): Hodgepodge, cheaper cavalry, more manpower, seems ****ty
- Plutocracy (republics): Hodgepodge, seems ****ty
- Offensive: better leaders, more manpower+forcelimits+prestige+discipline, final bonus = stimpack
- Defensive: +army trad, +morale, +leader siege (defensive tho?), -army maintenance, +fort defense, +reinforce speed, -attrition, final bonus = all enemies suffer minimum 1% attrition in your territory which is pretty sick
- Quality: better troops + faster morale recovery
- Quantity: cheaper troops + more manpower

Hiring generals
Military tech (unlock new troop types, increase morale/maneuver/tactics, fort and army buildings)
Build military buildings

I weep for the historically naval+trade-oriented countries. How do you do all that out of the same diplo power pool?

This guy was all excited about occupying Aragon 100% and then finally realized they also owned Mallorca, Sardinia, and Sicily. How did this noob get early access.

lol, that's hilarious.

btw I should add that with the monarch power complaints/uncertainty...I still had a blast playing 2 diff nations all the way through the 28 years of the demo until like 4am last night and I expect this to be just as much of a time sink as EU3.

I'm confident enough that I uninstalled Eu3 and deleted all my saves.

Quote:
Overextension is game mechanic modeling troubles with too quick expansion of one country.

Each non-core province provide overextension percentage points equal to province base tax. Province that have base tax 6 will add 6% overextension penalty, no matter how big the state is.

When at 100% overextension penalties are:

Foreign merchant compete chance -4.0
Stability cost modifier 2.0
Mercenary cost 2.0
Papal Influence -10
Diplomatic reputation -10
Global revolt risk 20

In addition, the AI will view close overextended countries more negatively, and will be more likely to either declare war itself, or form a coalition against that country. Overextension will only decrease the relations with close nations, so while an overextended France will decrease the relations of Spain and Germany, Russia, for example, wouldn't care as much.

Overextension can be reduced by buying cores for conquered provinces, which take time and administrative points.
I dont know if its a % of the maxed penalties depending on how much you got, but thats how the rest of the game seems to work.

people near you hate you for sure at any %.

Is it worth going for +3 stability really early on? I've had a couple of demo games now as Portugal where I just take Casablanca, get the Morrocans to drop any claims they have to any of my territories, converted Casablanca to core, then had it revert to Morroccan without me being able to do anything obvious. Or maybe I should just crack down on Casablanca as soon as I've converted it?

I don't have this problem but make sure you are not on like minimum upkeep % I think less upkeep/ turn means less you recover men or repair. atleast it was like that in 3. Also I don't like taking over N. Africa I like to crush them over and over again and milk money out of them that way.

...and waking up in one where it has.

Dunno about your bug Kirby, but I do know that you just need to have the ship in port for the change of the month to get the repair tick, which is handy.

I just lost Casablanca despite 0% rebels, core, 2 stability, with no warning and no pop-up. Is that meant to happen? I'm Portugal and took it a while ago.

Just ordered EUIV and installed CKII. The latest looks as complicated as most of Paradox games. Is there a good mod for it to try?

For ck2?

Ck2+ is a must ( or project balance if you know what you are doing while installing ). Makes the game infinite times better.

Game of thrones mod if you want to play in that world, or the elder scrolls mod. Both are cool.
