Align the speed in the middle of the "blue zone" and the ship will slow down on its own as it approaches your target.

That's marginally even more boring than playing around with the throttle to try to get there faster.

I love the game but still agree there is far too much time spent in this mode. I've taken to watching Netflix on my laptop while playing because there is so much time I'm not really concentrating on the game.

I'm up to a Viper, rebuy cost is ~$27k with upgrades. Mostly just bounty hunting right now. I'm thinking of moving back into trading in the near future though.

The big downside of using Rift is that you can't do anything else without totally disengaging from the game. It also makes trading pretty unfun as there's no convenient way to take notes about supply/demand at stations you visit (and that info is not automatically logged because **** you that's why).

I'm up to an ASP already + about 20M in upgrades trying to get a permit for a system with great trading between two stations. I just need a program that will let me check trade data on one monitor without pausing the game on my main screen. I did some exploration for about 4 hours before I realized the large population bubbles turn red the better they are but every single one has been explored already. When they open up new systems I'll definitely go back to that.

Dont mind the supercruise at all as to me its what makes this the best I am actually in a space ship game evar, however I do feel that I need more reasons to be SCing around.

Dont feel that my actions have any impact on the game world. There is so much potential in this game, but am pretty sure the devs will drop the ball on it.

Actually think the best "content" will come from group dynamics but there seems some resistance to that in the dev team and community.

If you set the population sliders all the way to the left you get big clear balloons around systems with lots of stuff. If they're heavily populated they get a red tint. All the systems with rare items are the darkest red.

I had an advanced discovery scannner/detailed surface scanner and I was just scanning systems with clear bubbles and names (instead of HIP xxx) and averaging about 6k per system. You can still find systems worth 100k without any tint but all the systems with a red tint that I've checked have already been scanned.

How would there be unexplored systems with lots of people in them?

System populations are in the millions. It's not real players. If the system has a high population it means it probably has stuff worth scanning/exploring.

LOL NO.

Most of the systems are uninhabited and the amount you get depends totally on the type of body you scan. Population has nothing to do with it.

Exploration is about heading out into the mass of 4B stars and finding earth like planets, or certain types of stars.

Oh wait, nevermind, I get you now. Population means earth like etc etc. You threw me because in ED most people refer to exploring as going out into the empty black of systems where there are no stations for 100LY+ (you need a fuel scoop). People have racked up millions in cart data doing that. Yea you can make money scanning inhabited systems, but not sure if that is really "exploring."

Still, the majority of systems are unexplored/uninhabited so there is tons and tons of systems with $$$$$$ type discoveries.

Yeah, I was just talking about the five main systems. I started toward the coal nebula then realized systems stopped getting original names, zoomed out and saw the bubbles stopped at the edge of sol. That's when I noticed the reddish bubbles.

That might just be something I made up for easier navigation. I'll give you your thread back.

That post was unclear, please accept my apology. I'd clarify it if you weren't such an unpleasant jackass probably.

There's clearly only one way to solve this.

Vipers at dawn.

So now that it has been out for awhile what are peoples thoughts on it? Worth playing now or wait for some more updates to come out? Is it playable with a m+kb? My only other option is a X360 controller.

Mouse and keyboard did not work at all for me - using a controller was fine though. Did get a HOTAS which gives amazing control, but is not needed unless you find it's a game you really want to invest in (or you've got/plan to get other games that also could benefit from it).

That said - I'm still waiting for the consumer version of the Rift before really starting to play this. Don't want to get bored of it before I get to try it with the Rift and hoping it'll get even better from the updates that'll come during the waiting period.

Absolutely worth it now though - but Rift and a bit of time should make it even better.

I've been playing it exclusively on DK2. I suppose that the extra rendering load of high res and stereo makes certain scenes stutter more than they would on a monitor, but most of the time, it's really smooth, and the sense of presence in the cockpit of the ship is amazing. Leaning forward to get a better view out the front window... It feels like sitting in a ship and looking around. It feels like docking at a space station.

One time, I launched it by accident with DK2 off and saw the "normal" monitor cockpit view. Whoa. I can't believe THIS is how most people experience this game. It feels like a totally different game with DK2.

It's also impressive how much CONTENT they designed that simply can't be seen without the Rift. They've really taken Rift integration seriously, and spent a lot of time and money supporting it.

I play this game with a normal monitor and a PS3 controller and its still fun.

E: D is on Steam.

Went to their forums to find out where I should go to get my steam-key and evidently they "haven't decided about that yet"... ummm - wat?

I quit playing for a while. I just felt like the game was way too repetitive. It's gonna be great one day, but there's not enough depth right now IMO.
