Interesting, I guess that will allow prices to be slightly higher on the GAH than the RMAH. It seems like an odd way to punish players for using gold instead of RM.

Why would they do that? 15% is so much.

Also prices will not be slightly higher. That can't happen.

Sure it can.

Lets set the hypothetical exchange rate at $1.00 for 5000 gold.

Say you have a $20/100k item. If you were to sell the item on the GAH, you'd only net 85,000 gold. So it would be in your benefit to sell it on the RMAH for $20 and then turn around and buy 100,000 gold.

Because of this, more copies will shift to the RMAH, lowering supply on the GAH and raising the price. Once the price on the GAH reaches ~115/120k, sellers will return from the RMAH.

So you could say the item costs $20 on the RMAH and $23-$24 on the GAH.

Ok, what I meant was the value ($ or gold minus tax) of the item will be the same in both markets. In the scenario you provided that holds true. But yea I get what you are saying.

I'm not sure that the buyer necessarily absorbs all of the 15% though. Probably depends on the item. Like an occulus would probably sell closer to the RMAH price even with the tax, but a death's fathom would sell closer to the value + tax price. Though this is probably better observed in hc.

I'm not sure why some people are waiting for open beta so eagerly... You've pretty much seen anything it has to offer by looking one 2 hour video from youtube. I've been waiting for Diablo III for ages but I don't really care much about that beta.
