We both got Thorn of course, no real trouble. VoC, Icebreaker, Vex Myth laugh at Epic Wizards. Kazana's Arc Light/Beware makes Epic Knights crumble to dust.

We ran the nightfall after, since that wasn't enough summoning pits for one night I got a Crypt Dweller scout rifle with Grenade cooldown for kills + Increased stability for damage, pretty decent. Kazana Got Akamara Spine Gauntlets, unfortunately he has them already.

Raid weapon I picked up last night, Praedyth's Timepiece Arc damage pulse rifle - pretty awesome in the nightfall with Arc Burn, even on a lowly 26!

Was really fun cause I had no problems taking out the knights earlier, but couldn't break the wizards well enough. So we made a nasty team.

Running really cold on Public events, even an event I did solo I didn't get anything purple. Is there any tricks for improving the drop rate?

only thing you can do is get gold tier

think i read somewhere that you can't get any ascendant mats as random drops immediately following a public event if your vanguard marks are capped for the week

They should move the reset to before the weekend instead of after, I'd rather have lots of grinding to do on the weekend instead of having it mostly be pointless.

just a bit of advice:

if you're below 29, the most important thing you can do to progress your character is get 29 (and max out your weapons). i know lots of people -myself included- sat at 28 and hoarded ascendant shards because we didn't want to upgrade gear that would eventually become obsolete/sharded. once you hit 29 you'll have ascendant mats coming out of your ass with nothing to do with them, so don't worry about it. the difference between a 28 and a 29 in the raid is light and day.

Yea, the materials (relic iron, spirit bloom, etc.) actually become more of something you have to actively care about than shards very fast. After only a 2 weeks of having 2 characters that can run hardmode I am somewhere around 80 shards.

Did the daily and got a legendary warlock chest which gave me enough shards for 29, woot!

Ran hard mode without fireborn and it really wasnt any harder. Though I can say I definitely have an appreciation for the classes that have to be careful to never die more than ever now.

Then got my other warlock and cheesed Atheon for a group of 6 people with the strat of all 5 of them dying immediately and me solo'ing him. We got it on my last attempt too because I had to go to sleep. I got teleported to the relic and I wasn't sure if he fell. Felt pretty awesome when everyone (else) got gear.

Having cheesed him no less than 15 times (more than half when I had cleared the raid already) I am really hoping they patch it tomorrow. Everyone makes the cheesing out to be so easy, and while I have done it on the first try a couple times now, the margin of error is enough to make it annoying. Kiting him around that pillar solo when he is scaled to 6 people is no joke.

Just picked this up for PS4, I am level 6 right now. Add me if you want to do some missions together.

Anything I should make sure to do while I am leveling up? I am a hunter if that matters.

Don't think this is true, I had them drop on my hunter yesterday who's been maxed on marks for a couple of days. Think it is just random, a friend did 12 events and got nothing while another got 5 from 3, lucky bastard.

Patch is in, not the big one tho.

I have a few questions if someone can help me out. Do you need to be vanguard rank 3 to buy from xur or whatever that vendors name is? I am having a horrible time getting a weapon drop. I just got bumped to level 24 and still have rare 20 weapons at best. I have been doing plenty of bounties, a few strikes and an occasional daily heroic. When you hit vanguard rank 2 do the drops get better? I'm not in a faction and only do pve. I am just wondering if the only way I am going to get better weapons now is to buy them. Finally I heard if you join a clan with the App you get some loot, is this correct and is it decent loot? I just joined with a guy who mentioned this.

The best and most effective way to predictably get good weapons is to grind rep with factions.

Vanguard and Crucible offer weapons at level 3 for 150 marks each. There are also 2 other factions that you can buy and equip an emblem for and grind rep. Those factions give you rep for both strikes and crucible when wearing the emblem, so technically it is faster to get them to rank 3.

Xur comes on the weekends and sells weapons for strange coins. The only qualification is having enough strange coins.

I don't get rep anymore playing crucible, only way I get it is through clearing bounties

Yup, very frustrating. Managed to do nightfall before the patch at least.
