I had to leave for a while. Not sure I'll get to it tonight but I def want to try it tomorrow night or some time this weekend. Trying to get my Vanguard rep to lvl 3 and only need about 250pts so I'm going to work on that tonight. Only getting about 2hrs of game time each night during the week sucks for this game. If it wasn't for work I'd prob be playing +8hrs every day.

Thanks for the offer though.

I did today after psn went back up(6pm central).

But was fine last night.

Xur was kind of disappointing this morning... so I bought a chest engram and was hoping for Praxic Fire and got Alpha Lupi.

His Achlyophage Symbiote put me at 27 and the engram gave me 3 shards so not too bad.

Have the hunter helmet and and gjallahorn so will be saving my coins this week. Don't think I want to be spending strange coins on my alt Titan just yet...

I think they are pretty solidly a bad use of coins right now based on the outstanding armor/weapons that you likely don't have yet.

I got Light Beyond Nemesis and an engram. Engram became a titan piece, I'm 3/3 of getting titan pieces from engrams now.

Pretty bad use of strange coins, no different to the ones on sale by the gunsmith (which absolutely YES, you should have 5+ on your person at al times!). But they're only like 950 glimmer each or so. And glimmer is so so much easier to come by that strange coins.

Xur AMAZING for me today. Armamentarium for sure (=Titan beastmode++), and top tier hunter helm that I missed out on last week. Don't have enough coins for Truth yet, but having missed Gjallahorn it's pretty much second best I think? so need to grind coins asap. Also again another tilting week where I grinded an alt instead of my main so no not nearly enough motes for a gambool on the engram Skipping Light Beyond most likely since I got Apothosis Veil from him a week or two ago for the warlock, and have also Sunbreakers ldo and an Heart of Praxis Fire already. Alts will pay off for future coins though in spades.

Also Larry, I hope you recorded that 7295 crucible game that tops the charts on my PS4 destiny homepage. I can't even imagine lol. 5580 here in position #9

I thought the ammo packs Xur sells help level up the weapons?

Random question...am I correct now that I am at level 20 the quickest way to level up is join a faction and then hit the strikes/daily missions even though you don't have to join a faction?

Oh, those! he sells 5x standard heavy ammo packs too for 1 strange coin.

The telemetries are a different matter, yeah probably worth it if you got an exotic or legendary you're in a hurry to get levelled up. not sure how much boost they give, but it's significant. at least 2x XP gain. They last for 30 minutes, so best to clear 5 bounties at the end of the day, save them until bounties reset then next day switch your kit so only the underlevelled exotic is the one that needs XP (it gets shared among equipped items) pop the booster, turn them in, grab fresh easy bounties and get as much XP as possible in the next half an hour

Depending on what items you really want is what I'd do... I bought the vanguard pieces I wanted and then I joined a faction and gained rep/marks for the pieces I wanted.

depends on whether you do crucible or pve. if you're pve-exclusively, then sticking with vanguard faction and buying their legendary gear will be quicker than starting from scratch with the other factions.

you'll probably randomly pick up legendary gear between now and the time you're able to buy stuff from your faction and xur regardless of what you're doing anyway.

Get your vanguard and crucible if to at least level 2 before joining a faction, preferably to 3. You need level 2 to purchase legendary armor from their vendors, 3 for weapons. A faction's armor / weapons may be slightly better, but joining one will necessitate levelling from zero again while you're probably almost at 2 with vangaurd already. Factions take crucible marks only (even tho when wearing a faction class item, both vanguard and crucible rep will be diverted in to faction rep), so vanguard rep to 2+ is vital or else you can never spend your vanguard marks!

The way to level up from here is to firstly upgrade defence on your level 20 blue armor (increasing defence also increases light). If you have no light-armor, run some strike playlist it should come easy. Then equip legendary armor as you get it, and upgrade that too. Buy an exotic from Xur if you can, that'll likely have enough light to boost you a level or even two straight off.

quickest way to level vanguard when you're 20 is probably assasination patrols (star icon), kill / collect patrols (4 dots in an X or triangle icon), and of course as many easy bounties as you can find.

How do I upgrade my vanguard rep if I'm already in a faction? Anyway to unjoin faction to upgrade vanguard rep?

Just take the cloak off and put a nonfaction cloak on.

I pretty much don't mess with playing against other players. I did it once and they threw me in (at level 20) with a bunch of 27s and 28s where my weapon did nothing on them and I got toast on 1-2 hit kills. It also didn't give me a random drop afterward and I don't think I got any experience since I had 0 kills. I plan on mostly playing strikes, daily missions etc...probably not raid unless I pick up a head set.

Wow, that could take forever....I am at level 1 still and want to say I have a long way to get to level 2. I did a bunch of the regular vanguard bounties along with a few strikes, but most of those bounties didn't bump me up very much it appeared.

I believe I have 2 pieces of armor, one that has +2 light, and one that has +3 light. That is it though. I have 4-5 motes of light to spend along with some random pickups, and 1 strange coin. Do you get legendary items from random drops during the strikes? I also saw a video it looked like someone was farming glimmer/legendary drops in the ember cave unless they came out with a patch that stopped you from being able to do that (quick respawns)? I will also look at the assassination patrols, thanks for that tip.

Thanks for the responses guys. I was leaning toward joining the Dead Orbit one because I think I read it gave boosts to the auto rifle which is my main choice of weapon for now. I read you need to buy an emblem or something like that from the faction guy to join for like 2600 so I am a bit short now (1900) but maybe I should wait to do that until I get to vanguard level 2 or 3...I will look more into this.

Edited to add: A few places I am reading that I should join a faction right away if I want to level up quickly and earn legendary gear quicker vs maybe trying to increase my rank to 2...is this not correct? Here is one source.
