I might be in the minority but I just don't see the fun in doing something like what you all are talking about. A game shouldn't be that much work.

It took me and another warlock about 1 hour to cheese Atheon hard mode Saturday night.

We just ran 3 people and had them jump off and die right away and we got it first try in under 4 mins total time.

I'm down to make a run at the Oracles tonight. I also need the weekly heroic on another toon and wouldnt exactly love seeing 9 strange coins disappear if anyone needs that.

Anyone get any loot after I left?

Also, I heard the best way for Nightfall Phogoth is Arc snipers and to stay in the small room and retreat when the Shrieker spawns... after a while he disappears. I read you do not want to kill him... Heard this one is a challenge

Did anyone get weapon drops doing the daily or heroic missions that were level 20ish weapons? I am currently level 20 (about 3/4 way to level 21), and have a rare like level 16 gun (does 205-209ish hit output) but I haven't gotten any weapons higher than 18 still for the last about week or two doing strikes and the daily. I tried to do the weekly but it is set at 22 so weapon did very little damage to any of the elite soldiers making it rough to even come close to beating. My vanguard is ridiculously low level 1 so it will take forever to bump it to 2 if I try to grind (with a full time day job lol). I am just curious if regular or rare weapon drops still happen so I can maybe compete better in the weekly level 22 strike.

It seems my only drops are the same armor I am wearing but just newer versions like 3.1, 3.1a etc

Weapons tend to drop a few levels below your current character level, so priority must be to raise your light. pump materials into "upgrade defense" on any armor you have that can take it, and obv swap out for better wherever possible.

Vanguard to level 2 will come sooner than you think if you try to hit up the +100 bounties each day, easy +50s, and as many quick patrol missions as you can while searching for materials / chests (avoid the ones that make you travel to scan things!).

Are you on PS4?

I think Catfan? got a raid hunter helmet. I got a titan chest, better than my current one but a dupe. For both of us I think unfortunately those slots are best place for an exotic in builds, but no complaints! A few Vex Myhtoclasts were handed out by a cheesy Atheon too

For this week's Phorgoth, I hear Arc snipers with Armor Piercing perk can shoot him through cover lol.

I found someone from LFG who thought he had the oracle checkpoint but he had Atheon instead, so we just cheesed him.

Wish I had an arc sniper with AP then! I might just have to grind queens bounties when it comes back. A thrall just ran into the shrieker room and one shot me when I opened up on Phog, oops.... I was on such a long streak of beating all the nightfalls in my first try too. Blah.

BTW, a sniper with armor piercing is easily one of the most useful/overpowered things in this game. I have a supremacy with it and it's absolutely the only thing I use in PvE and PvP, or at least like, I use it 90% of the time. I prefer it over Icebreaker by quite a bit. Your shots go through everything... only seems to really work with snipers though. With every other gun type the armor piercing only effects targets, not walls and objects etc.

So basically if I am not joining a faction I should just focus mostly on the vanguard bounties to get that ranking up, as well as occasional strikes to get the marks up? I do upgrade my weapons and armor once it appears it is available (usually after beating a level). Are you saying you can possibly go to someone in the tower to upgrade my stuff further using materials I have picked up? I don't have a ton of materials but I have collected a bit here and there from when I played the levels. I guess I was more trying to get weapon drops and all that seemed to happen was I was beating one strike and one piece of armor would maybe get bumped up to a 1.2 version with a tad better stat (possibly light but sometimes not).

Yes I am on the ps4

Had a long response typed up and then accidentally closed my browser.

Here's the abbreviated version.

If you don't play Crucible regularly then don't worry about joining a faction yet. Work on getting your Vanguard rank up to lvl 3. Let me(Evil_Trev) know if you need any help with the Daily. I don't play Crucible so I'm usually open between 7-11pm est(week days) to help out if needed.

The best way I've found to get blue engrams is to do the patrol bounties. Find and remember the location of a group of baddies(usually works best if there's +5 of them) and then take them all out as fast as possible. It seems like I get a lot of blue engrams doing that. Once you memorize those locations then you can go back after completing the patrol bounty and start farming for engrams. As dave said, don't do the patrols that require you to scan something. You'll have to travel from 1 side of the map to the other and it's not really worth the time when you can just go to Orbit and come back to get a different patrol mission.

I don't think there's an NPC in the Tower that helps out on upgrading. You need to collect items(which you already know) for upgrading. Once you meet the requirements then you'll be able to upgrade.
