Are you talking about the GO beta? I only have Source right now. And when I look at the main menu, I only have Find Servers and then I have to look within the list for something, and normally it's just ongoing games that never end.

you have to read the server name. if it says gun game, deathmatch, wc3, etc then it's not a normal game.

bluef0x, yeah I uploaded the AWP demo. on the new aztec map. I'm also uploading the a scrim on the new dust2_se version of the map and a train scrim today if you'd like to check those out. The aztec scrim is about 37 minutes long and the dust2 and train scrims are about 25 minutes long.

Pretty fun game. Definitely has a different feel to it than Source.

I had a few good matches, got the MVP multiple times. Some maps I do well, others (office) I suck terribly.

Can be a little frustrating at times when I shoot people and then I get 1 shotted instantly from long distance.

Flashbang is way too long, imo. Maybe 2 seconds less and it would be ok.

How the f do I play this? I have the old Half-Life CD (with key) and steam; do I need an invite or something?

I'm definitely going to get this game when it comes out, but one thing that really irritates the piss out of me is how people can 1 shot me from across the map. I played around with a few guns on my own to see where I needed to be aiming and I can't imagine that from a distance, I'm doing anything different than anybody else. I don't know what the trick is.

I know that I'm a noob and that I'm probably playing against people who have a bajillion more hours played than me, but seriously. I try to tweak a few things here and there and still nothing.

BTW, does the kevlar/gear really even change anything? I want to say it doesn't as I haven't noticed anything, but I don't know. Maybe I'm just not realizing it.

I'll be on late tonight if you want to play again. To answer your question about kevlar and helmet...yes they do help you.

In this game kevlar is used to protect you from HE (high explosive) grenades. Without kevlar they do lots of damage, but with full kevlar the grenades do only minor damage. The kevlar also reduces the total amount of damage taken from all guns (except that the AWP is 1 shot kill to the chest or above).

The helmet on the other hand is useful against certain guns. So with the M4A4 (CT only gun) the helmet will protect you from being killed instantly with 1 bullet to the head at 100 HP. Now if you have the helmet but 80 HP or less, the M4A4 will kill you with 1 bullet to the head.

On the other hand the AK47 will kill you with 1 bullet to the head even if you have 100 HP and the helmet. So just like an RTS game, you have to have money management in CS, you can't just buy whatever you want whenever you want especially if you are working with your teammates. In competitive play you want your entire team to "buy" at the same time (meaning buy full grenades, armor and weapon). If not everyone can buy your team should "save", (meaning buy only a pistol or nothing at all).

That's getting a bit too much into detail on the competitive side, but if you want to last longer in the pub servers on CS:GO, make sure you have enough money to at LEAST buy a rifle and armor (and helmet sometimes). If you don't just buy a desert eagle (pistol) - also know as the deagle - or don't buy anything at all and buy the next round.

Man, these constant 1shot kills are superannoying.

one part of me wants to throw my xbox away forever and the other part of me shudders at the idea of devoting hundreds of hours just to relearn the FPS basics on PC.

I can't imagine playing CS on a console. To me, it was made for PC.

Even if there is a re-learning curve to getting back into a PC shooter, I think it'll be worth it in the end.

I'm really not sure either.

I didn't play the first counterstrike and only discovered it when I played CSS with Half Life2. I got hooked immediately and spent many late hours playing it and even got sacked from a ****ty part time job because of it lol.

However I have transferred all my gaming onto my ps3 in recent years and although playing FPS with a pad was super difficult at first I now can't imagine using a mouse and keypad again.

I can't imagine playing any FPS with a gamepad.

Any ideas on how much this is going to retail for?

I'm in the FPS for PC camp, but Halo on Xbox was definitely one of the only good playable console FPS games.
Is there a specific way to get a key for the beta for this ?
