CS Devs just said new keys are out. Not sure where you would find them. So far it looks like I didn't get one.

I uploaded 2 gun game videos if you want to check that out. Probably the most mainstream part of CS...although most of the people that play it are ******ed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUPRJquN_oM

Movement is crisper than all previous version but I still feel recoil and sounds are the two main areas they need to focus on followed by the stamina (movement).

You only get 1 shot per round. Probably not that accurate unless you are right next to the guy. Only available in casual mode.

In other words, it's used to taunt people and it's harmless.

So you can't even use the sights on the guns to aim down sight? WTF. People talking about the lack of realism in COD etc. because of the lack of recoil need to reassess their view.

What does "you can't even use the sights" even mean? CS is not about being realistic. It's a precision game. Not like CoD or BF where you can be inaccurate as **** but still get a kill. When people talk about CoD not having recoil it has nothing to do with realism. It has to do with skill ceiling of the game. Basically the game can be mastered in a few days by someone who has played competitive CS. Anyone who has played competitive CoD or BF couldn't even begin to touch the surface of CS in that same amount of time. Chess vs tic-tac-toe....only so much you can learn playing tic-tac-toe compared to all the complexities of chess.

To summarize...consoles have really taken out any skill required to be good at FPS games. Don't get me wrong, MW3 and BF3 are good for like 3 months after they are released, then that's about it...bring on a new version.

Why do you keep talking about consoles? Are you going to play CS on a console?

Or are you suggesting that playing BF on a console is equivalent to playing on PC.

Can't use your sights means you can't aim with your sites, you can only hipfire. Seems primitive to me.

Thanks for the explanation. For some reason I was reading it as people complaining about the lack of recoil=lack of realism.

I guess I need to just play CS to get a feel for it, but watching videos it looks just like COD except everyone is running around hipfiring super accurately.

Hip firing is a term used for games that have aim down the sights. CS does not have aim down the sights, thus it does not have hip firing.

Have you heard of Team Fortress 2? It's a free game on steam that also does not use aiming down the sights. The gameplay and game mechanics are not like CS at all but you may get the feel of what it is like to not ADS.

Realism is an aspect that CS does not really focus on. There is so much **** you can do in CS that you can't even imagine doing in real life (like shooting through 10 feet of concrete wall or strafe jumping to gain speed). It's basically the last reason why you would play the game. CoD and BF on the other hand focus on how their gameplay is so realistic, and that is the main selling point of the game. ADS is just one thing that realistic games do in order to make the player feel like they are actually there.

I need to stop watching streams of this game.

Anyone have CSS to gift (or just to play) or the beta who would be willing to let me play for a few hours?

Please pm me.

Ending up buying Source...if anyone wants to play sometime.

I found a lobby that was just an ongoing game, no real score, no time limit, and can use any gun.

Went 100-73 before I decided to quit.

First question that came to my mind is, how do you flip through your weapons really fast and how to zoom in/out with the snipers fast? I was having to scroll my mouse wheel and then click to pick my weapon, or with sniper zooming, I had to right click, but trying to spam right click wasn't making it any faster.

Warning: wall of text incoming.

Go into your cstrike folder and find a file called "autoexec". In that folder, add these commands.

hud_fastswitch 1
cl_dynamiccrosshair 0

Although there are many more commands that you can use, since this is your first time playing I would recommend just using these 2 as they make the game easier to play.

How do you flip through your weapons fast?

I am assuming you have HUD switch set to 0 (above command), that will mean when you press 1 2 3 to go through the weapons you also have to press mouse 1 to actually switch to it. The hud_fastswitch 1 command makes it so that whenever you press 1,2 or 3 to switch to your (main weapon, pistol or grenade respectively) it will automatically do it without you having to press mouse 1. Go back and forth between hud_fastswitch 1 and hud_fastswitch 0 and you will see what I am talking about when you try to switch weapons. Other than that you get really fast pressing 1,2 or 3 to go between all your weapons. "q" also switches between to the previous weapon you had out (also known as quick switching).

With a sniper gun (awp, scout, autosniper) once you have the gun out you have to press mouse 2 (right click) to scope in. If you are wondering why there is a delay after you shoot that is part of using the gun (the delay in scoping in the second time was implemented to make the awp less powerful). If you watch any of my videos where I use the awp you will see I quick switch to a pistol after shooting with it. That is for several reasons. One, you run faster with a pistol, so after taking an awp shot you are very vulnerable so standing still is very bad. By switching to the pistol you have a much faster run speed which can allow you to get behind cover quicker. Second switching to the pistol and switching back to the awp allows me to "acquire" my target much better. Basically instead of having the game decide when I want to scope back in, I decide by "resetting" the awp scope. Thirdly, it allows me to see the entire screen before taking another shot, so incase I am being rushed by someone from the corner of the screen I can see him.

If you would really like I can make a tutorial and show you what I am doing in a video. It's very hard to explain with just words because I can't really show you.

No, it's cool. I understand. Thanks.

I haven't been able to find any real lobbies, where you get with a team, and kill people like I see everyone playing all the time.

All I can find is gun game on stupid looking maps like they are in some kind of Tron world or big open lobbies that are just people screwing around.

No matchmaking? Where do I find the competitive games?

I have to go out, but I found my cstrike folder, had to make the autoexec folder, added those two lines, but nothing was different in the game.

I have to go out now so I can't sit here and figure it out, but I'll be later tonight.

Ok cool. I will be uploading a CS:GO competitive scrimmage on de_aztec with me mainly awping. Pretty much carried my team in this match with the awp. So you can see what I was trying to say much better (as well as get to check out aztec).

btw I have an extra account with CS:GO on it if you want to try it out...it's technically my teams account because I gave it to them but I can let you try it out since there is no other games/credit card info/etc.... attached to it.

But if you want to see an AWP exhibition check out the aztec video I will be uploading (it's about 39 minutes long, but definitely worth watching if you are craving some CS:GO action).

In response to your second post...

Best way to find public servers is just by joining a bunch of different ones until you find one you like. Unfortunately I don't have any recommendations because I haven't played in a public server in almost a decade (LMAO, this is actually the truth too). Competitive games are only found via ESEA (which requires a monthly subscription to play). Don't subscribe or play it until after you've play CS for at least 1 year.

Sorry I don't have more time to go into details of finding a server for you, but I will be back in a few hours and I'll search for a server that you may like.

I'll need to know where you are located though (US East/West/Central, Europe?)

5 digit steam id hurrr, was on a solid cal-m team in the 02-04 glory days, team played at cpl once but I didn't go - nor did our best player and we carried the team together, they lost every game. I remember sweatin' it on HLTV though, was fun.

Played a little 1.6 again recently (mac with crossover games ftw, win7 PC running it well too) and watched a few finals from tournaments in the last couple years and watched the classic NiP vs X3 cpl final (cs 1.3, my fav version and the first I played).

Funny that 12 years later this is still really the best FPS game. BF3 is cool and all, COD kind of sucks now, but this game is still the most skill based. One major gripe I have with 1.6 now though is the server list, what a mess, I just randomly join stuff until I get something good then favorite it but I'm constantly getting redirected to empty servers, etc... really annoying.

Never cared much for source, but I'd like to try GO at least. Where's my key valve?

Went into the options and found an advanced setting that automatically allows for fast switching so now it's much easier to do my mousewheel and have it automatically change weapons. It saved me a few times when I ran out of ammo and switched to my grenade really quickly.

Pretty fun game, just wish there were more options to play rather than just trying to find a lobby.

So far all I've really done is run around in an open lobby playing with the guns. Haven't gotten into anything competitive yet...like where you start with the pistol and then have to buy guns and grenades.

BTW, I'm US East.

yo italian, when you find a game don't do quickmatch... click find a game, then click competitive mode, then all classic maps. you won't get any new maps you get stuff like office/dust/dust2/aztec/nuke etc and its the start with 800 and progress. i dont like gun game as much either. solsek/italian/anyone i'd love to play with some people on the team. in the beta, do you think the awp is most powerful? or is it pretty similar to how cs was back in the day and AK/colt are pretty good overall with same skill
Counter Strike: Global Offensive Quote
04-01-2012 , 02:31 PM
awp isn't necessarily the most powerful, but it's the gun that is most similar to the 1.6/source version. So your skill set from those games transfer much more easily over. Thus it seems like the awp is most powerful, but it isn't. People just aren't used to the recoil of the M4 and AK right now.

But the AK recoil at the moment just blows so I would say in terms of gun "power"...I would rate:

AWP is slightly better than the M4 which is slightly better than the Galil which is much better than the AK. AUG and SIG are way too expensive to really be considered in competitive play as a gun to buy every round but those guns are probably similar to the M4 if not slightly better because they are the easiest rifles to control.

Italian, check your PM's. I'll be on steam all day (I always leave steam on), but I will be heading out in a few hours and won't be back until tomorrow.
