Scrimmed a couple of times on D2 so far. The AWP is clearly way more powerful than the AK/M4. Almost no point in using a rifle with your ability to quickscope with the awp so accurately. I will probably be uploading some gameplay footage of the M4, AK as well as some scrim highlights tomorrow.

From what I was reading you had to have gone to one of a few conventions to get a key, like PAX. Some people got extra keys to give away.

Or, you can look on twitter for people who are giving away beta keys. Some have been advertising on #CSGO, but I don't know if they are still doing it.

I heard somewhere that Valve was asking people to stop giving out keys because they were reaching the max of where they wanted to stress test their servers.

Eventually it'll be open to the public, but I don't know when.

Exactly what ItalianFX said. PAX 2011.

It seems that the servers are laggy as **** considering I live so close where the servers are. I wouldn't be surprised if they were reaching the maximum testers for the stress testing (mid-day it can reach 200+ ping). At 4AM in the morning my ping drops to 20...so that must mean their hardware really can't handle any additional players at the moment, or they need to upgrade/add more servers.

From what I am hearing around the CS:GO testers/developers it may be a couple of months before an actual open beta starts. Valve will probably start inviting additional players in a few weeks once the current beta testers get bored.

Just put up a full scrim (23 minutes long). Destroyed the other team, but watever. Just wanted to upload something so you guys can get a feel of what the game is like competitively. Usually games require more strategy/teamwork in 1v1, 1v2, 2v1, 2v2 situations but those never came up in this scrim. That's where the real intense action of the game is.

Cool video.

Am I right in understanding that these games are like a Best of 30? First to 16 wins?

I remember you saying something about 15 halves, so I guess 15 on CT and 15 on T?

I wish I had a way to play this game. haha Even if it was for a couple of games to try it.

Just uploaded a scrim with 95% AK47 gameplay. You can see even a CS player with 12 years of experience is having trouble with the recoil right now (the trace bullets are actually making it see where my bullets are landing). Its 26 minutes long, which is a full scrim but you'll get the idea of how rifling works in CS.

Valve giving out more keys

To reward the most active players, this week we are giving Beta access to the top 7000 active players around the world in CS:S and CS 1.6. We are also giving out additional keys to the top 500 players of CS:GO.

a lame way to do it but whatever

This actually seems like a great idea. Problem is, I can't see myself playing, espcially the new game. It would feel like such a sham compared to season 9 CAL cs 1.6. *sniff* those were the days.

If I wanted to get baited for 10 bucks a month, sure.

Huh? I'm not talking about pugs. ESEA league. Only ****ties complain about getting baited.

then i would have to find 4 other people that still play cs, and arent ****. And then I would have to be satisfied with not being as good as I used to be.

What is the best way to set up a scrim?

Also, what is a good league to join to get some competitive matches? (1.6/Source)

I have been watching a few WCG matches lately and it makes me want to play competitively. I played in the defunct CAL league (O) back in college once and we mostly got obliterated, but it was fun.

@Jolly2702 - I guess that can be a problem, but you'll find lots of teams looking to pick up players. A lot of players are coming back to the game (after CS:GO was announced in August) including myself, so most of us are not as good as those who didn't stop playing or those who picked up the game in the last 2 years and kept on playing. Luckily if you have lots of experience with the game it should come back quickly. Don't let stuff like baiting prevent you from enjoying the game. For me, playing a game competitively and with tons of studying and practicing is fun. That's why I was so drawn to the world of online poker. In the end, do whatever you have fun the most whether it be playing pubs or not playing at all.

@ShipItMehr
Unfortunately since the demise of mIRC, the most common way to find scrims is through ESEA. ESEA requires a subscription of $6.95 a month but they provide all the necessary means of playing the game competitively (leagues, scrims, pugs, practice servers etc...). They also have awards for people and teams that do well in non-league play. I believe you may be able to find scrims "off-client", but I have no idea how or where to even begin looking for those types of scrims. I tend to avoid off-client scrims because of cheaters (ESEA anti-cheat software is the best in counter-strike).

Thanks solsek....will definitely look into ESEA at some point. Sometimes a friend of mine asks me to organize a scrim, and I have no idea how....I suppose ESEA would be a good choice.

On another note, after watching a WCG match I came upon a video of CS:GO. 3 minutes in, I notice the name "solsek" on the scoreboard. Thanks for the vid! Graphics are kinda cool.

beta survey is now live

Today we are opening up our online survey to everyone. The next keys will be sent on the basis of this survey. If you don’t fill it out, you won’t be getting a key.
