cant afford an ak or an m4? Probably better off saving money.

My lone exception would be the first round after a pistol round when you can buy guns vs a team that is likely ecoing. I always buy a P90 in that situations because armour+50 rounds + moving spray is actually super effective.

Everything is pretty much common sense, don't move while shooting, move between shooting, slower and steady wins the race - aiming for a headshot in the face of someone spraying at you is usually the better option 2-3 round bursts at the head is a good recipe for success. Preaim at likely opponent locations as you move around the map, if you're ecoing ( buying nothing to save money ) follow a team mate who has a weapon you can take in the event he dies ( vulture-ing ).

If the competetive scene is even quarter of what it was (still is) in 1.6, just play clan matches. 100x more fun than public games and (with a big enough scene) you'd be able to find a match in <15 minutes usually. You'll also learn to play much better that way.

I played CS actively (almost daily) for 8-9 years and it's probably less than 100 hours total at public servers. Really hoping there'd be a similar massive clan scene for CSGO. If not, probably won't even bother installing it.

Also need advice with grenades...

Do they need cooking? If so how... I have landed a few evry close to villains and get no kills, one time it landed like 2 yards from villain and he had nowhere to move, didnt die.

HE Grenades seem to have a very small radius in go, tbh they are kinda ****ty and I'd rather have a flashbang, in close games it might be better not buying HE so you can have an m4/ak when you're not sure if you'll have enough money next round.

They don't need cooking, you can hold left click down indefinitely and it won't explode, and it will cancel if you weapon switch.

Also clans will take noobs, because there are plenty of clans full of bad players, that accept they suck but still want to play vs other sucky clans, at least here in europe there are plenty of ladders that cater to all levels.

KD I'm in the top 14%, games won I'm in the top 3%

Not sure what a reasonable KD goal is in ranked, I know when I used to pub on servers that had stats mods that I was over 2:1, but that was like 8v8/10v10 pubs where it's a lot easier to rack up big scores. My aim is definitely **** at the moment though, although I havn't played a FPS seriously in a long time so it's to be expected.

Scooby, don't worry about stats. You should focus on doing things right (ala poker). Don't get too results oriented in this game, the long run is very long and it's better to develop good habits now than trying to get good stats when it doesn't even matter. Even moderate to good players probably aren't putting lots of time into the default CSGO matchmaking, so being on the top of those leaderboards means nothing when few to no good players play on it. Although it is nice to keep track of how you are doing when you are learning the game, you shouldn't use it as a measuring stick to determine how well you are improving.

FWIW when you get into the competitive scene, stats basically don't matter their either. So it's probably different from your days of playing CoD when all everyone would just bait and try to get a 5000:1 KD.

If you want a little more tips of aiming and stuff, check out my youtube channel (youtube.com/solsek7) and watch any my scrim videos. It should give you an idea of the style of moving and shooting that generally works in CS games.

Edit: for some reason a nuke scrimmage I posted back in Feb has over 100k views now. Here's a link...I guess people found it an entertaining 32 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOzsQkGiTFM&feature=plcp. Keep in mind the game is much different back then, but the same basics still apply (everything is much more accurate now as compared to the version we were playing in that video).

Just played for an hour on xbox, for CoD players it will take a lot of getting used to and may not even appeal to many as it has such a different feel but it was a lot of fun playing all my old favorite maps from the first FPS I ever played.

Release notes for 8/22 Update

- Addressed some stability issues.
- Fixed perf issues when logging is enabled.

- Added a convar (cl_crosshairgap) to control the gap of the classic crosshair.

- Disabled sv_pure on listen servers.
- Fixed an sv_pure bug that resulted in false inconsistent MD5s
- Increased search iterations and time delay for keeping sessions in the ignored pool. mm_ignored_sessions_reset can now reset the ignored pool.
- Fixed a case where MOTD prevents input to the team select screen.
- Fixed occasional "server is full" error when matchmaking into classic casual games.
- Fixed an exploit where a vote could be called for an invalid map.

- added some sound mix settings suggested by pros
- increased the volume of bullet impacts and ricochets
- increased the volume of 3rd person footsteps
- increased the volume of weapon foley sounds (reloads, etc.)

Solsek, thanks for the tips man, appreciate it... Watching these vids right now!

I am not a complete noob, I used to play for some decent clans on SoF2 years ago, but all my gaming time in the last few years has gone to FIFA exclusively.

I know all about the fundamentals with aiming/shooting etc. Holding the gun as you move around map, aiming for chest/neck area and firing in bursts... Didnt know about the stand still while shooting tip, will def add that in. On SoF2, bunny hopping was the way to go.

Never played CoD, tried it on PS3, hated it, decided you cant beat a PC FPS and got this...

Bought it last night, played a few hours so far. Definitely far superior to Source but definitely not as good as 1.6

Problems:

-Player models blend into the background too much (or could it just be my monitor's color settings or something?)

-Can't spray or else recoil goes insane and you can't hit anything even if it's a foot away

-Molotov cocktail seems like a bad addition, if Ts throw it in area of where bomb's planted it's cheap as ****

Yeah it's a little annoying, lots of people have been complaining about it.

Yeah, spray isn't quite as controllable as 1.6, but probably better that way.

It's fine, it's very expensive. I actually like it as an addition.

anyone else having issues searching for a server? I logged on, updated, got a list full of servers but couldn't connect to any. restarted steam/cs:go now it says there are no internet games that make my search peramaters (no specific peramaters or tags just did a general search)

Fair enough. I never bought it so didn't know it was costly. In fact I haven't really even looked through the buy menus, just do my usual b-4-2 on T and CT (used to be b-4-3 for the colt so I was instinctively pressing that for a little bit and accidentally buying awps)

For anyone playing on console, how does the aim feel? I can't imagine in a game that requires so much precision and requires a focus on mainly headshots, that you could be very accurate.

You can use mouse+keyboard on ps3 There is also a mouse adaptor for xbox.

Apart from that, I'd agree it's probably terribad - doesn't seem to deter people from playing cod/bf/halo on consoles though

O SNAP

8/23 update

[ Gameplay ]
- Exposed a classic dynamic crosshair style in the options that represents the weapons spread accurately.
- Implemented first person client flinching. Now a player gets aim punched a bit when shot. The amount is based on the damage.
- Increased amount of tagging that results from hits.

[ Bugs ]
- Fixed the scoreboard turning toggleable in the end match state.
- fixed not being able to bring up the pause menu without dismissing the scoreboard in the end match state.
- Parallelized matchmaking results analysis process and reduced time game takes to perform matchmaking.
- Improved matchmaking algorithm giving more weight to dedicated servers ping during matchmaking results analysis.

[ Community ]
- Removed the implicit dependency on round-limited matches so servers that want to use mp_timelimit instead can. Mp_timelimit is used only if mp_maxrounds is set to 0.
- Exposed mp_forcecamera convar.
- Exposed set of server hibernate convars.
- Fixed code that was preventing mapper-placed weapons.

I'm glad they are jumping on some stuff and not waiting a month or two.

What exactly do those bolded parts mean?

What does the exposed crosshair mean?

flinching is self explanatory from that sentence

tagging slows you down when you are shot

It's meant to slow down players that you hit in order to stick them to one spot and make follow-up shots easier, or to prevent them from getting to cover.
