While what Syous says helps with some stuff I'd really suggest deathmatching over playing bots. It will help you increase your reflex time, improve pre-aiming and many other things that you otherwise wouldn't worry about playing against bots. They are horrible so you don't have the urgency to kill them fast and accurately.

Where are you located? I can probably find a good deathmatch server. Keep in mind these servers are usually always dust2 and sometimes filled with good players. But playing against better people will allow you to improve at a much faster rate.

solsek - is ESEA pretty much the only way to pug now? Is IRC and #findpug dead?

IRC has been dead for several years ;P

ESEA is the easiest way to pug in north america. Best anti-cheat. Best players.

Is there anything wrong with just playing the matchmaking? Have the game automatically find teammates/opponents for you?

Source was crap with the server list.

Match making in GO? There is probably nothing wrong with that. However, you probably won't be playing against the most competent players. I think its a great system for newer players because it provides a ranking/matching system that allows you to improve instead of playing against horrible people all the time.

Getting into the competitive scene can be a little intimidating. If you think I've been authoritative with my posts earlier, you haven't seen anything yet. The CS community is filled with the elitist of elitist gamers. I'm nothing compared to them. This is one of the things that probably holds back competitive CS. It isn't very inviting to new players. That's why the the matchmaking system is a great idea that allows newer players to improve without being scolded every time they play. Talking trash and berating your opponents is a way of life in this game. If you go to any serious LANs, you'll see people talking **** in the middle of a match.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_N-MnwduiA

This is mild trash talking. In case you can't tell what happened, a player on the other team killed his teammate. I love it.

Reflexes are nice but aiming is way more important for him.

practicing with bots is the way to go imo. If 10 is too low, increase the # so they swarm you. Don't spray and pray, practice on burst shooting each face.

Oh wait, who am I to argue w/2p2's #1 cs player?

lol you really still wanna talk **** about something you don't know?

Look how to took my post. I said what you suggested was good but that he would probably benefit more from deathmatching. Then you post that **** as your response. How can I not have an attitude when 99% of the crap you most is negative?

lolz source iz ez becuz hs r ez to get

Yeah I'm just looking to casually play the game against people of equal skill and having the game do that for me is a great change from Source.

I like having an end goal rather than how some servers were unlimited rounds. There was no structure to Source.

Southern Indiana. I love playing better players, as long as they enjoy the match, too. Only makes you better.

I'm so cool someone made a video with some random pug frags that I had. Source is easy actually. I take everything back.

you guys all play left handed, why?

It used to be that when you reloaded the model animation wouldn't block your screen as much if you used the left handed models. They've changed it so that it basically doesn't matter now, but a lot of people are used to left handed because it's what they've used for many years.

If you want some encouragement, there is a 16 year old dominating the 1.6 invite scene and he's only played the game for 3-4 years? That's very little compared to the people he is playing with and against.
That is encouraging in the fact that hours do not literally translate into skill. I was also looking for some "don't worry if you aren't the greatest, it takes a lot of time to get truly good" encouragement too, which I think I've received.

Hopefully CS:GO can become a truly great game. It is definitely fairly priced.

I believe there is currently no Mac beta. I wonder if the 14th beta that is open to pre-orderers will be accessible to Mac users. While I prefer Windows on my laptop, the most powerful computer I have is a Mac.

I haven't been arguing that source takes more skill than 1.6. I've just said both games have huge learning curves and both require different skills and knowledge to be good. Other people ITT have been arguing that source is basically the easiest game ever. Source uses a different engine than 1.6, so using a 1.6 players skill set in source won't directly translate to automatic success and vice versa. Why are some players that are doing horribly in CSGO right now? Because they are stuck in this mindset that what works in one game will work in a different game.

Nobody has posted any legit reasons as to why 1.6 takes more skill than source. All I've seen are, "riot shields", "easy headshots", "bad gui" and "cluttered maps".

i never played source, but hitboxes/move speed/sound engine sounds like a legit enough reasons to me.

What cracks me up is how much love Steam gets these days, but when it first came out, it was universally hated, and caused a lot of people to quit playing CS.

What about hitboxes/move speed? I can easily counter "big hitboxes" with so what? It's also bigger for your opponent. You miss a shot? You better hope your opponent does too otherwise you're dead. Move speed? What does that have to do with skill? It's a baseline mechanic. If everyone moved like snails would that make the game most skillful game of all time? Sound engine?????????????

btw you are all wrong...smite is going to take over the world.

I'm always on. You're never on!

I remember ESEA back in 2006 when it was still getting started. The idea of paying $7 to play CS was a joke. But the scene has changed quite a bit since then. Lots of people have moved on. ESEA kind of centralized a lot of the hassle of playing CS. You no longer need a server to scrim or pug. Searching for a pug or scrim is also very easy as well.

Is that when ESEA came out? I thought I stopped playing CS before 2006. I remember ESEA as being some site for nubs to purchase expensive lessons.

Is ESEA the site to go to for news now as well? I see that gotfrag is dead

you used to be able to load 2 instances of cs 1.6. I remember those days too, I hated it as well. Now I absolutely love it.

pros dont miss shots. with larger hitboxes, theres a much higher probability some rando spraying and praying kills you. it just lowers the skill differential.

i was assuming source was slower than 1.6, which would mean reaction time is less important.

Sound engine?????????????
listening to sound was one of the most crucial elements of CS. I've never played source, but if they messed up the sound then I could see this removing another element, thus removing another variable that can separate the pro from the noob.
