Drop the musketeer and the loon won't touch your tower usually. It's your only counter to a loon so if you don't have one available you're pretty screwed. I would just push hard on the opposite tower and try to trade one for one

The deck has a counter to just about every major card

Musketeer - dragon, loon, valk
Skeletons/goblins - mini pekka, pekka, prince, hog, giant, skeleton King, knight
Bomber - barbarians, goblins, spear goblins, witch
Witch - skeleton army, prince
Arrows - minion horde, goblin barrel

I seem to struggle the most against decks with a lot of defensive buildings

Another fun deck I just came up with

lvl 7 bomber
lvl 7 barbarians
lvl 7 goblins
lvl 7 skeletons
lvl 7 mortar
lvl 7 arrows
lvl 5 musketeer
lvl 3 elixir collector

It's a low costing deck that lets you spam elixir collectors and troops while your mortar pounds their towers.

As a level 6 I'm at 2200 trophies and climbing. Beating some level 8s with ease. So many angry faces haha.

I can't find myself using anything overpowering or play defense for the sake of winning, just seem kind of boring.

Nope, one of the benefits of a platinum account is they aren't subject to bans resulting from being an aggressive user.

For me personally though, I think the mailers and gift exchanges are worth the quarterly fee.

I hit my first giant chest in the chest cycle. I'm in arena 4 at the moment, if that's not obvious from the pics. And suddenly I have a ton of options for deck building and don't know what direction to go. I've been hoarding my upgrade gold, and mostly playing the same deck I had for while, trying to build around prince/baby dragon.

But now I think busting 150 teslas and 9 hogs is worth considering a new direction?

What would you build?

I'm a little worried about using level 3 hogs, particularly since I have no experience with them, and I'm not sure about their value without freeze.

Two cards away from my first level 7, and it's tesla! Go figure!

Also: consider spending gold to upgrade & use regular goblins. They are so cheap elixir-wise; not a bad way to get back around to things like prince/hogs.

I am with Mark, I feel like not upgrading everything is a leak. They are constantly re-balancing everything, you never know when something could get useful
