How much of a difference have the 2 expansions made? I've heard very good things.

I only played gnk and bnw but from what i can tell the vanila game is missing religion and tourism which are large gameplay mechanics that add depth to the game. Tbh I loved Civ 5 playing online with bnw but its a monster time sink.

Brave New World makes the game so much better. Would not touch vanilla civ without it.

Cheers, ended up getting it along with the gold edition upgrade.

Will it be okay to jump straight into the DLC or should you atleast get used to vanilla first?

There is 4-5 of us playing and we are all starting out new, and want to get straight into a private multilayer game.

straight into DLC

if you need to learn a game from scratch, it's always better to learn the latest version. Vanilla is very different from BNW.

i couldnt imagine going back and playing w.o tourism/religion

as has been said by others there's no need to play the vanilla civ 5

BNW and GnK are the better than any of the Civ4 Expansions. Granted Civ4 Vanilla was miles better than Civ5 vanilla.

Late to the party answering this one, but I'd say that the difference between the game with and without expansions is so different that lesser companies would have reskinned the graphics a bit and called it Civilization 6, and they would have gotten away with it.

It's a really different experience.

I have 1000s of hours into Civ4 and I felt like BtS just added to much tedious micro (like spies) that I often times just disabled. The beauty of Civ 5 expansions is that they have added very little tedium but lots of depth.

And like I said Civ 4 vanilla was so damn good. Its hard to improve the Mona Lisa.

Is it me or is BNW a bit war light, like you could always guarantee your neighbours would be declaring war on you early, but know they don't. Makes the game a bit more dull.

Ya, sometimes it's a big lovefest and kinda boring. Means I have to shake things up myself and bribe others to war. Though sometimes they won't even do that.

Solution: Set the difficulty level high enough that if you don't declare war, you will lose.

Put many hundreds of hours into Civ 5 on my machine when it was running Windows 7. Installed Windows 8.1 and had crashes during my first two play sessions. Is this game known to not be stable under Windows 8? I am also having really bad gray tile loading issues, where when you scroll to a new area of the map the tiles are gray until they load in. I used to get this under Windows 7, but then after the tiles had been loaded once they stayed loaded throughout the duration of that session. Now it seems that the tiles never stay loaded. Frustrating.

I do multiplayer, single player, campaigns, whatever....

I'm always down for discussion, hanging out, anything and everything civ lol.

Toss me a follow and ull know when I'm on and we can hang out and talk some civ!

Bah. Got the itch to get revenge on that ******* Gandhi this weekend and tried re-installing this game. Anybody know how to retrieve the keycode without your steam account? I set it up a few years ago and have no clue what my ID/email account it was attached to

Did you buy it on steam? If so then you go figure out what you steam account is.
